Crayton is a good young #3. With the two old timers ahead of him on the roster, they should have signed him to a multiyear deal.

Crayton re-signs to be Cowboys' third receiver
Associated Press

IRVING, Texas -- Restricted free agent Patrick Crayton re-signed with the Dallas Cowboys to remain the No. 3 receiver behind Terrell Owens and Terry Glenn.

The Cowboys offered Crayton a one-year, $1.3 million tender to remain with the team. The signing was announced Thursday.

Crayton played in all 16 games last season, his third with the Cowboys since being a seventh-round pick out of Northwestern Oklahoma State in 2004. He had a career-high 36 catches for 516 yards and four touchdowns last season and returned 11 punts for 85 yards.

The Cowboys picked up Glenn's $5 million roster bonus last month. Owens is owed a $3 million bonus in June, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has said he expects Owens to remain in Dallas for a second season.

Let's just hope we extend him before he hits the market next offseason.

They could have extended him before now. I guess they want to take the standard chance and see how well he performs next season. Always risky when teams do that.

Was he RFA or UFA? I didn't even know.

So they decided to let him hit free agency next season eh? Interesting.

Not necessarily.

If he maintains his improving play as he has since his rookie season, I presume he will be extended before FA next season, if not earlier, during the season.

I hate Crayton, if anything, just for that pass he caugh from Vinny testicle in the 2nd of 2004. We almost won, then with less than 30 seconds left Testy throws it long to Crayon and we lose. I was too pissed that day.

We got em back though with the 14-13 game.

Yes, but this sounds like they're not taking it for granted that his improvement will continue at the same rate, or it could say a lot more about the type of offense they will run, with more passes to the TE than to the #3 WR. Who knows. I just thought it was interesting that after locking other guys up to long term deals they did not do the same with Crayton.

We are using the same tact with Crayton as we do all of our players, 1 year left on their deal negotiations begin, Even Witten, Roy and others didnt get resigned until the week before training camp in the last year of their deals

wouldnt have been picks but only a second round pick if another team was to sign him to an offer sheet.

He'll get his if he earns it.

Dallas has proven over the last few seasons that they'll go above and beyond to keep their own.

great signing. led NFL wideouts in catch percentage (minimum 45 targets) and didn't drop a pass all last season :D
