Another questionable move be the Giants new GM?

Back-up Search Continues; Giants Will Meet With QB Wright

Posted Apr 10th 2007 8:42AM by Dan Benton

According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, free agent quarterback Anthony Wright (Cincinnati) is Scheduled to meet with the Giants; no specific dates were given.

Wright, an eight year NFL veteran, doesn't really seem like the ideal candidate to fill the Giants back-up role. It's not because he's not capable, it's that Eli Manning has actually seen more playing time than he has. The idea of a "seasoned veteran" back-up, or at least in my eyes, is someone who can help tutor Eli. Someone that has played in very meaningful games and has seen a lot of playing time. Not someone who has appeared in only 28 games over eight NFL seasons.

Then there is the performance factor. Let's be realistic, Wright is not very good. His career completion percentage is only 55.4% and he has a quarterback rating of 66.9. Imagine if Eli got injured, is this the guy the Giants would want leading their team?

My biggest concern is what this means for Jay Fielder. I, like many other Giants fans, were excited when his name surfaced. Unfortunately it looks like another offseason will go by where Fiedler came and went without a contract.

These were the comments that were attached below the article. Sounds like some Giant fans are pretty frustrated with Reese!

1. Let's face it, a "not very good" back-up QB will fit wonderfully with a not very good team like the Giants are going to be. What player in their right mind would sign with the Giants unless all other options have been exhausted? With all of the holes that the Giants have, they have barely been able to fill any of them and given Reese's track record with drafts in the past, I am not very hopeful that he will do much better at the draft. Of course, he is "saving money" by not spending it on free agents but in the NFL, if you don't spend it you lose it. So the only ones that benefit are the ownership. Reese is obviously in well over his head. Of course, that doesn't stop the Giants from raising ticket prices so we can pay more to watch a terrible team. When are Giants fans going to say enough already?

2. Giant fans need to go on strike..If the giants organization does not get us good players who want to win and spent some more money for these player...giant fans should not go to the games until us fans get what we want and that is winners not cry babies

That's what I was thinking, I liked Hasselback when he was here and wondered why he never was given a shot to start. He seemed to do well in preseason but rode the pine the whole year.

I don't see an advantage to bringing in Wright.

We should trade Brunell for the Pillsbury throw boy. He is good at that short yardage stuff. Ha Ha!

Ahhhh, I remember the good old Anthony Wright days.

Getting beat by Tennessee 31-0 on Monday Night football .... Classic.

The Giants are also considering signing WR Charles Rogers. As long as the contract is incentive laden, I'm all for it.

Anthony Wright possible Giant back-up

You know, if he wasn't a giant starter I don't get why they think he is going to grow and get a lot bigger as a backup.
