View Full Version : Fixation with people bringing opposing fans to FedEx

Ok, I have a serious question for you all.
My girlfriend is a Dolphins fan, and it just so happens that the game on my birthday (September 9th) is IN Washington and against Miami. So naturally I want to get a set of tickets to go with her and some family/friends.
Is that really such a big deal? She's very quiet, she's not going to stand up and cheer for the Dolphins or make a big deal out of anything. She wants to go to the game with me and spend the day with me. I don't see it as a problem...
I can see the issue with bringing division rival fans in large numbers or whatever, but is it really a big deal to bring a single Dolphin fan to a game on my birthday and she also happens to be my girlfriend?
PS: This is in the tailgate because this doesn't really have a thing to do with football discussion, more of a social question.

As long as she's cool, I don't think that people would care.
People tend to get bitter about the obnoxious men who scream and yell the entire game.

It is NOT a big deal, but selling your tickets to a Dolphin fan IS a big deal. If anybody gives you any crap tell them to go **** themselves.
Have fun at the game.

The bigger question is, will you make an ass out of yourself when we stomp there asses and therefore not receive any physical compensation from her for awhile.

I don't think she'll care enough about me making an ass out of myself to matter. And besides, I do that anyways

Bring her...
Like what has been said as long as you don't bring someone who is a complete obnoxious ass, its cool. I also agree with not selling tickets to opponents.
BTW, bring her to the tailgate, we will get her loose for your post game entertainment :D

My best friend is a Cowboy fan and I have for years tried to get him to go to a home Redskin game. But for some reason he always tells me, thanks, but no thanks. Hmmm. I wonder why?

Change men to anyone and I agree.
Bring her, KD. Beyond the fact that it shouldn't be necessary to ask, anyone who reads your posts would seriously doubt that your girlfriend would be the type to cause a scene anyway.

KDawg, you took my post in the classifieds a little too seriously, i used the :D face and even "lol'ed"
But hell, i even broke my OWN RULE last year of taking opposing teams fans to the games, but well, she was cute and wasnt obnoxius, so i said, why not , heh
Can u guess what team she likes by what shes wearing?
That was the very first time i've ever done it , if they act civilized, its cool

And to stay on topic....
Honestly, I don't care about opposing fans. Typically, I have a lot more problems with some of the Redskins fans sitting around me at games.

As long as the opposing fan isn't an IggleMidgetsCowpukes fan, it's cool.
If it's a late-season game with playoff ramifications, it's not too cool.

Dawg. I may not be a frequent visitor to the Tailgates, :( , but I can assure you that your girlfriend and family would be warmly welcomed and treated nicely. Good people at the Tailgates.
Same goes for you Torresa.

No doubt, been to two (well an unofficial at the Ravens scrimmage) and the Raiders game in '05.
Glad to be a Redskin fan especially after the reactions given here!

Nice to know I have an impact on you sons of guns. ;)
And BTW, happy birthday Lib. I'm not sure how long ago I missed it, but I thought you were 19 and your avatar says 20 now. Live it up and enjoy life while you're young, my friend.
I don't really have much to contribute here, as I've only been to two regular season Skins games, but I'll be watching this thread. My brother is a Jets fan (God bless him) and he and I are going to try to get tix to the Skins-Jets game this year. I was a little concerned going into hostile territory for a football game. I've done it at baseball games, but that's a little different.
I would think for an opposing fan, the keys are to not make a scene, be respectful, and expect some ribbing. If you can do those three things, piece of cake for the most part, IMO. And obviously, since you said it's your girlfriend, that should make things easier too. Everyone will just figure she's a Fins fan because she doesn't know any better. ;)
BTW, the one pre-season Skins game I went to was against the Dolphins in 1991. Got to see Marino play a little bit, and Brian Mitchell showed one of his first flashes of greatness, returning a kick for a TD.

My brother is a Dolphin fan, I already have my tickets, and he's welcome to come with me if he wants to.
I brought (gasp) a Giants fan to the game last December, it was cool.
The only people you shouldn't converse with are fanbases that are classified as *******s. Meaning Eagles, Cowboys, & Jets fans......

I'm that way as well. My aging grandfather is from Philly. No way would I bring him to a game. I only play a miniscule role as a fan as it is. Every last Skin fan in the stadium helps with noise. If everyone followed that rule, we would have a much better home crowd. It's like voting, well my vote won't make a difference. But if everyone does what they should, it does make a difference. Just my opinion. I'll never get everyone to see it that way.

KDawg, I didn't see anyone mention it yet, but if you're coming from Rochester, that's a hike. That's six hours north of where I am, and I'm 4 hours north of FedEx Field.
At that point, the fact that you're trekking that far to see a game balances out the fact that you brought an opposing fan to the game. At least that's the way I see it....
Also, being a NJ guy, I count on my friends (who are misguided Giant or Jet fans) to get me into Giants stadium every year to watch the skins. If they want to come to DC for a game, I pretty much owe them.....

Well he is a Fins fan but not a fanatic like everyone on this board. I'd say he is more of a soccer fan but the NFL team he roots for is Miami. It's not like he'd b e decked out in orange and teal. Don't think he even owns any dolphins apparel.

She's a Dolphins fan, so no problem.
Now, if she was a Giants, Eagles or GOD forbid a Cowboys fan, then for get about it. :D
I would take a non-division team fan with me to a game, but I would never EVER sell
both my tickets to opposing fans of ANY team.
