View Full Version : Draft Talk

I wanna talk draft with some people, and as much as I like talking draft about the 'Skins, I like talking draft about anyone. Prospects, teams, whatever.

One thing I heard today is that Brady Quinn is falling fast. And that's something I said prior to all of this happening. He reminds me alot of Matt Leinart. It's not a surprise that he's falling rapidly. But does that mean he should? I dunno. I'm still not sure Cleveland doesn't take him at 3. Are they comfortable with Frye?

And if they take him, where do you think Peterson winds up?

This top 5 is a complete crapshoot, but for the record here's what I have going on in the top 5:

1. JaMarcus Russell, QB, LSU - Raiders
2. Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson - Lions
3. Brady Quinn, QB, Notre Dame - Browns
4. Calvin Johnson, WR, Georgia Tech - Tampa Bay
5. Joe Thomas, T, Wisconsin - Arizona

I don't think the Lions are dumb enough to take another receiver that early, although I think Adams has bust written across his forehead.

If my scenario plays out, I have NO idea where Adrian Peterson lands...

Anyone have any other thoughts?

PS: I'm a HUGE fan of Brian Leonard, FB, Rutgers. He's going to do well in the NFL.

Here's how I have it possibly playing out:

Raiders- Al Davis can't pass up a big arm even though CJ is the best player. They take Russell

Buccaneers- Trade up with Detroit to select CJ.

Cleveland- With Russell off the boards and trying to get Trent Green, Brownies take Peterson, because Droughns was traded and Lewis is in for 1 yr.

Detroit- Trade down with TB and get their man Adams.

Arizona- Sit still quietly and take Joe Thomas as need for O-line outweighs anything else.

Miami- Trade up to select Quinn. Culpepper not the answer and Cleo Lemmon?

Minnesota- Anderson/Branch. May surprise and take Landry, but they have Doss, Sharper, etc. Stacked at S.

Atlanta- Landry is their man

Washington- Okoye: Gain 2nd rounder and possible 3rd from Miami

Houston- Branch/Anderson. They take what Minnesota leave behind. Or they could go WR to find a complement for Andre Johnson.

That's my top 10.

I know this much, if Oakland passes on Johnson .... they will regret it. But not 1/2 as much as the Texans with Mario over Bush.

I agree, TN41.

But for some reason I don't see them pulling the trigger. But I agree that their best pick is, without a doubt, Calvin Johnson.

I'm certain Al Davis is salivating over these guys. If he can pull a trade for Daunte Culpepper and keep the pick, they take Johnson. If this happens, don't be surprised if they trade Randy Moss to GB and take an OT later in the first round.

Adams scares me also!

I think Adams will be the best DE in the draft. His pass rushing skills are supposedly VERY reassuring, plus his 40 time proves he's a speedy kid.

I think JaMarcus Russell will be a bust. He's got the arm, but how many Big Wins does he have? (and this is a general question. I'm not trying to make a point) I mean, after all thats what people say is the negative about Quinn.

When all is said and done, I'm almost willing to bet Brady Quinn is the better NFL quarterback. Which doesn't necessarily mean much, but I think people are now underrating Quinn, where everyone was overrating him before. He's a solid QB coming into the draft. What happens after is what remains to be seen. But he's got intangibles...

I can see Brady Quinn and Jamarcus Russell shaping out to be Ryan Leaf and Peyton Manning.

Jamarcus Russell showed up at the draft a little over weight, and didn't practice. A lot like Ryan.

Brady Quinn has all the potential intangibles, but has never won "the Big One." Hmm, they said that about Peyton.

Quinn might have gone to a good school, but he wasn't surrounded by Good Talent that would make him that much better. Funny, Peyton was like that.

Jamarcus has a rediculous arm, without which he wouldn't be nearly as intruiging a prospect. You think Ryan Leaf goes that high without his arm?

In short, I think jamarcus Russell is going to be a bust. I truly think Quinn will turn a team around, provided he is actually surrounded by talent. Miami won't be a good fit for him, Cleveland might be, if Braylon Edwards can get healthy and Jamal Lewis is actually useful at tailback.

They won't because they don't have a quaterback. Now if I were Oakland, I would trade for Trent Green, draft CJ, and take a QB either in the 2nd round or draft their franchise QB next year.

I'm not sold on any of the highly touted players other then CJ. Many of them seem like a crap shoot with bust a distinct possibility. There are some quality players that will go in the middle and later portions of the first round.

It sure seems like the top of round 2 is going to have a lot of quality at DB, LB, WR, TE and interior OL. There also may still be some DE's available. Thoughts...........
