Good News!:applause: :applause:

Ernie Grunfeld, President of Basketball Operations for the Washington Wizards (http://wizards.realgm.com/) , commented on the future of Gilbert Arenas (http://www.realgm.com/src_playerfile/140/gilbert_arenas/) as a member of the franchise on Thursday.

"Gilbert is very committed to this city and this organization. He likes it here and we all have had great success, and we are heading in the right direction. We would love to have Gilbert end his career here and put his number up in the rafters. He is very popular in this town, the fans love him and we all love him. He has a strong competitive nature and a desire to win. He does have the right to opt out next summer and get another long term contract, or he can get an extension this summer."

Good, EG understands it. And I could easily see Gil's number in the rafters in a few decades (hell, he already has the highest point total in a single game <his 60 vs. the Lakers>).

Setting up for a "sign and trade".

Just kidding. Put him at the 2 and I'll be thrilled.

Considering just a few days ago Gil was quoted as saying that after this upcoming season he'd have to evaluate his situation in Washington, I think this is welcome news.

Lets hope they get it done.

I don't believe Gil was quoted. EG is just doing what GMs do. He is painting a nice picture and lobbing for Gil to stay.

Here's the quote, anyway."I have one more year to see how everything pans out," he said. "So going into next summer it is going to be either this team is going where I think it can go or is it my time to move on?"Click (http://www.washingtontimes.com/sports/20070429-122536-3378r.htm) for the rest of that article if you're interested.

Gilbert is the type of guy who will wait till the last minute. We can offer him more money than anyone else and more guaranteed years so you think he would jump at the opportunity. This is when his personality worries me... because I dont think he will sign any deal this summer. Hopefully I'm dead wrong.

Ahhh, and how does that show I don't know what I'm talking about. He wasn't quoted about saying he was staying or closer to signing an extenstion like the thread started suggested.

AND, there is a new WP Post article were EG says he hasn't talked to Gil about an extension yet. Pretty much looks like I knew exactly what I was saying and nailed what EG was doing. Nice try though.

Wooo, people will try and try to find something wrong with my views but it just isn't working. You'll come aboard eventually. Just like some others. Then there will be a peaceful exchange.

I have a dream. Yep. Me and ML. One day, this board will predominately be an exchange of insightful knowledgeable Wizards fans who exchange and educate each other.

Ohh, got to go. I see a mountain.

Quirky is cool when he was choosing us and entertaining, but Gil is a wild card. He will hold out till the last second if for no other reason then the drama and spotlight it will focus on himself.

Ohh, got to go. I see a mountain. The heck are you talking about? You said you don't think Gil was quoted questioning his future as a Wizard, and he indeed was. I didn't say anything about Gil being any closer to an extension, or that he discussed anything with EG. What I did say was that this was indeed good news because of the quote I provided.

Don't blame me because you lack reading comphrehension. But, I guess you'll find any reason to go on some diatribe about how eventually we'll all see you're a genius

Let me explain it so a 2 year old can understand.

The thread was started to share the "good news" The quote that was posted was from EG and just stated the obvious and was a statement that had already been out there so it was really news let alone good news.

I and someone replied as much. In that context, I said Gil wasn't quoted, i.e. regarding being closer to signing, which was the "good news" this thread was about.

You then took what I wrote ( me saying he wasn't quoted ) when it was obvious I was talking about him being quoted about being closer to signing and decided to take that in a different context different from what the thread is about. You gave me this....

"I have one more year to see how everything pans out," he said. "So going into next summer it is going to be either this team is going where I think it can go or is it my time to move on?"

So sure he was quoted but not in the context of what I was talking about which is what this thread was about.

This quote isn't good news by a long shot. I would almost consider it bad news.

You seem to have a problem with keeping things in context. You break a piece of what someone wrote out and then twist it or overly focus on it and claim some kind of genius. Genius at what exactly?

I have consoled many people young and old with this problem. Its called immaturity and lack of comprehension skills. Try reading what is wrote in context and if it isn't clear, ask an honest question for clarification.

Excellent. Book it. I have no problem standing behind that guestimate.
It's way more likely to happen then not.

So do a get a cookie if I'm right?

oh, how are we going to message the last second? I obviously don't literally mean 11:59:59 of the last day. Though that would be very Gil like. The media would be going nuts and Gil would love that.

Are you really that dense? You're going to pretend that you responding to my saying

Considering just a few days ago Gil was quoted as saying that after this upcoming season he'd have to evaluate his situation in Washington, I think this is welcome news.with
I don't believe Gil was quoted.was in response to me somehow suggesting that Gil had confirmed that he was close to getting a deal done? My post providing you with a link to the article confirming the aforementioned quote was based on the assumption that what you had written was what you intended to say. But then, you know what they say about assumptions I suppose.

I'm sorry that you fail at both interpreting what I had written and at conveying your own thoughts in your posts, but don't try to act like my response was an indictment of my reading comprehension skills. Also, I'm not sure where the genius comment came from, but if you want, you can reread your post,
Wooo, people will try and try to find something wrong with my views but it just isn't working. You'll come aboard eventuallyso that you can see which one of us truly thinks of ourselves as a message board "genius". Either way, in the future I'd suggest that you take some of your own advice and "read what is wrote in context".

**** GoSkins08 IM'd me last night talking about Gil signed an extension for 7 years and 88 mil. Man I was panicking and damn near hyperventilating looking for that ****. I checked ESPN, the sporting news, CBSsportsline, this place, I took Hands off ignore, I did EVERYTHING. I was so psyched. Then he told me he was just joking. Bastard.

EDIT: Hold up, I just remembered I'm supposed to be mature now. Uh uh. Here I go....

Does it really matter? Gil is not a true PG. We need to play AD at the one and Gil at the two. And then we need to dip Andray Blatche in gold and watch him as he fouls out and misses jumper out of jumper (even though he is now frozen by his goldness.) Boy is he the next Garnett. He makes me feel all funny inside. He sure has potential. None of it really matters though until we fire EJ and hire the next Red Auerbach as head coach. Who is the next Red Auerbach? Rick Carlisle of course. Cause he won so much wherever he was. You may now bow down to the B-Ball Prophet. From now on I want to be referred to as "Your Majesty, the Basketball Guru." You know, cause I played high school ball for one year and now I'm in a over 35 league and I average 9 points, 6 rebounds, and four fouls a game. Oh and I coached my 10 year old sons team to a 9 and 9 record. Yes, fire EJ and hire me. I AM THE KING!!!

How was that?

I love the Blatche dipped in gold thing. Its like everyone is just SURE this guy will be all that - he may end up being nothing more than a roll player who occasionally shines. I think we all want to see him get the chance though.

EDIT: And just for the record, if we do ever change coaches, can we sign Gil PRIOR to hiring a defensive Guru for a coach? 'Cause I'd like to keep Gil around, and this won't really help.
