3 game series..Tonight is Guthrie vs Seo.

Go O's!!

TheDoyler23

Guthrie Vs. Seo
Bedard Vs. Shields
Cabrera Vs. Fossum

We SHOULD have the advantage in 2/3 matchups. The Rays bullpen is awful, and the O's pen has been a little overworked and inconsistant recently.

Seo's been awful this year.

Guthrie's been OK, we'll see hom he starts tonight...

Bedard got an ugly win ealrier in the year against the Rays. Though the Rays have a ho hum .257 average against him, he's 8-3 career against the Rays. Bedard has pitched more than 6 innings ONCE this whole year.

Shields has 3 ND's against the O's with an ERA of 5.89 and given up 4 dingers. He was the SP in the famous come from behind win for the O's, when they trailed 6-0 at one point, only to give up homers by Freddie Bynum and Mora and chased out of the game. The O's then sacked the Rays pen and won 9-7, with Huff hitting an insurance homer in the 9th if front of his former fans.

Cabrera has not lost to the Rays in his career (3-0 in 7 starts).

We make Fossum look like Randy Johnson out there. He gave up 3 runs in 7 innings against the O's earlier in the year.

Gotta get 2/3.

Guthrie gets em 1 2 3 in the first working his fastball and slider only. He threw one right down broadway that Dukes popped to left. A good hitter woulda curshed it.

Orioles get 2 in the bottom of the first on a Mora bases loaded, 3-2 single.

Seo threw a nice changeup earlier in the AB and Mora looking for it and brushed a single over the infield.

Markakis was hit by a pitch on an 0-2 count, Miggi singled, Hernandez hit a Baltimore chop to get Miggi at second and Huff walked to load the bases.

Guthrie allowed a legit double to Wiggington (what else is new?) and a 2 out bleeder down the line by Pena for the run.

Markakis rips one to the back left corner of the flag court and its 4-1 O's. Gibbons got on with a solid line drive single.

8-3 and this thread is dead. Where are you doyler???

I get tired of talking to myself. :silly:

RECAP TIME!

Mora had a bunch of slick plays at the hot corner, Miggi and Gibby had 3 hits each and the O's rolled 8-3.

Gibbons whined to the Baltimore Sun today about his lack of playing time, and responded to the opportunity with 3 hits including a dinger. Even the out he made was a liner over the head of Harris, who made a jumping catch. His effort tonight raised his average by 25 points.

Guthrie was impressive, but not commanding with his 6 inning, 67 pitch preformance. No walks and 2 K's in a pitch count restricted start. Lots of balls were hit hard but right at fielders. Better hitters whould have made it a lot more interesting.

Speaking of interesting, Chad Bradford allowed 2 runs on 4 hits in the 7th, though the Rays were more lucky than good with 3 singles thru infield holes and one saucer pop over the infield.

The Rays were unlucky on a Crawford double in the 6th that actually cleared the fence in right center, but it hit the top of the outfield wall, and carromed off the second wall and came back onto the field. Should have been a dinger, but was a double instead.

Baez took care of the 8th and Ray took care of the 9th. Ray hadn't pitched in
4 days so he had a little extra tonight.

The Orioles will win any bullpen battle against the Rays. With two guys pitching for them tonight who were fresh from the minors, and a starter with the second highest ERA in baseball on the mound, it was a recipe for disaster, and they served it up.

Yum

Good win, Guthrie was very good..I would have liked to have seen him pitch longer, but I guess hes not use to starting so he couldn't go to far..Nice win, now lets take the series tomorrow!!

we can sweep this series, which would be a huge lift for this team.

Shields and Bedard are both near the top of the list in strikeouts. Gotta make Shields work and get back into that squishy bullpen.

We're still waiting for a vintage Bedard start. 7 ip, 5K, 2 er

Hopefully Bedard has a good start, he hasn't had a great 1 all season.

TheDoyler23
May-9th-2007, 07:15 PM
Bedard has given up 3 hits and struck out 8 thru 5.

Shields has given up 1 hit and struck out 4 thru 5.

0-0

TheDoyler23
May-9th-2007, 08:00 PM
Bedard went 7 innings with 3 hits, 2 walks and 10 K's

However, The O's scored 0 as well.

Baez pitched an interesting but scoreless 8th. He hit Baldelli who went to second of Crawfords check swing grounder, and went 3-1 to Wigginton before he flied out to deep right center.

Two hits?? How good is the drays pitcher?

Two hits?? How good is the drays pitcher?

He's like a right handed Bedard with a good change and throws a really heavy down low fastball. He's 3-0 and would have at least 2 more wins if it weren't for the Rays bullpen. He's also top 15 in baseball in K's.

Ray in for the 9th and gave up a double to Young (slapper down the line), but gets out of it. WHEW

To the bottom of the 9th.

RALLY TIME!

One away, and Roberts lines a double the other way.

Let's go NICK! BIG HIT TIME for Kakes.

TheDoyler23
May-9th-2007, 08:27 PM
Markakis hits a long fly ball and there are 2 away. Roberts had gone half way so he could score if it fell in. Dukes ran it down, and threw a strike to the cutoff man. That guy has a hose.

Let's go ROOF!

Parrish has given up 2 singles and has 2 outs with Wigginton up...

TheDoyler23
May-9th-2007, 08:41 PM
Wigginton hits an off the end of the bat infield single to Mora, who was playing very deep,

Upton up with the bases loaded.

TheDoyler23
May-9th-2007, 08:47 PM
Upton grounds out on a 3-1 fastball that was at least 4 inches outside. WOW.

Instead of a walked in run, its out 3 for the guy LEADING THE MAJORS in avg with RISP.

I really thought I would see ball four, then have Young hit a grand slam to end the competitive aspect of this game.

WHEW.

To the bottom of the 10th

Great pitching game..Shields was great for the devil rays, and Bedard was great for us as well, this was definatly Bedard's best start of the season so far..Huff paying back his former team!! Lets get the sweep tomorrow!!

What a performance by both starting pitchers, just wow. what was that 6 hits 0 runs in 16 innings combined, and then the big Huff HR, he always seems to hit HR's at Camden when the DRays are visiting :D

I was unimpressed with the O's offense but from what I have heard about this kid on Tampa it very well may have just been good dominant pitching...

Bedard was killer too, I almost wanted to see him out there for the 8th and 9th innings, ya know as good as he was doin let him stay out there, our pen has been struggling a little lately and maybe they needed the rest, but we won so I am happy, but I nearly had a heart attack on that bases loaded 3-1 pitch... heck if that bat hadn't broken that ball might have been a bloop single with our luck... guess its a good thing we had the drays luck going against ours, theirs is just a little bit worse....

Completely agree. He deserved a decision and the 10 K's were nice. Let's hope Cabrera can close out the series.

The Rays haven't tried to steal much this series. I guess they will tonight against Cabrera.

GOSKINS_08

Hopefully Cabrera can dominate like Bedard did last night..And we SHOULD be able to get a few runs off Fossum.

Sweep!! We won 11-6!! Cabrera didn't pitch to good, he gave up 6 runs in 6 innings..But he did pitch 6 innings, so he gave our bullpen a little bit of a rest..Now lets get back to .500!!

TheDoyler23
May-10th-2007, 10:44 PM
Cabrera had a cut on his finger, which made it difficult to grip his curveball. So he got hit around a little bit by only throwing his fastball.

There was this crazy sequence in the game where Baldelli robbed Millar of a dinger, Mora went to third on an errant throe and some guy ran onto the field. Then Wigginton was ejected. He threw his hat into the crowd and the person who caught it threw it back onto the field.

Wild game overall. Save the bullpen a little bit, though probably both Burress and Guthrie will get knocked around in Boston. We just stunk against them last year, after playing them tough the last few years. So we'll see.

That whole sequence was really funny and it took me a while to figure out what was going on. I was proud of the fan who threw the hat back.
