this is huge, but can't say that I blame him. He was asking for help for a long time and when the team wont fork over a 4th rounder instead of a 5th for one of the best receivers and have done nothing to improve the team I think it is best that he leaves. You gotta feel bad for packer fans though losing the face of their team.

Favre asked to be traded
The man who may have the biggest name in Green Bay sports history has asked to be traded.
Several Packers and league sources have told FOXSports.com that Brett Favre's agent Bus Cook phoned Green Bay's general manager Ted Thompson within two to three days of the draft and asked for a trade. The sources said that Cook railed off how his client was fed up with the organization and wanted out.
The shocking request appeared directly related to the team's inability to trade for WR Randy Moss.
The news was then relayed to head coach Mike McCarthy, who immediately phoned the Super Bowl winning quarterback to squash his anger. However, the quarterback ignored all his calls for a week, perhaps showing the team how upset he was this time.
Finally, in the middle of this past week the two finally connected. Sources close to the situation said Favre asked McCarthy if he was aware that Cook asked for a trade but McCarthy immediately insisted that would not happen. McCarthy told others inside the organization it appeared the team's head coach had cooled Favre's anger and by the end of the conversation admitted he didn't want to go elsewhere. However, at the same time he has told friends on other teams as well how frustrated he is with the organization's inability to land the former Pro Bowl wideout and that he, in fact, wanted out.
Several calls this morning to McCarthy and Thompson by FOXSports.com have not yet been returned.
On Saturday, Favre railed against the team in an interview with his local Biloxi Sun Herald.
"I just want to win; maybe I see things the wrong way," Favre said in the exclusive interview. "I don't want to ruffle any feathers and I want people to respect me. Sometimes I think it's hard for them to let Brett go. They might think that we pay him a lot of money, but he still gives us the best chance to win. I've never been told that, but there are times when I wonder if I'm the odd man out here and they just don't know how to tell me.
"Our offense struggled last season. If it were not for our defense, we would not have won eight games. Right now, it's hard to be optimistic. I'm not getting any younger and I think everyone knows that. I don't have five years to rebuild. No one in Green Bay is saying rebuild but it's hard to look at where we are going and say, 'How can they not be rebuilding?'
"I don't know if I've lost faith, and I think everyone in the organization wants to win. I just don't know if it includes me. If it's going to be five years from now, I'm not going to be here. This is 17 years for me and I want to win."
At this point the Packers are primed to head into serious damage control to prevent any further uproar regarding their most prized name. However, too much damage may already have been done by his bizarre trade request.
Despite Favre's trade request and rant to the Biloxi Sun, the team has no intention of parting ways with him. In fact, some within the organization claim that McCarthy honestly believes they can win with the long-time vet at the helm and has repeatedly told him as such.
Thus, they are hoping that Favre simply needed to vent for a while before jumping back on board.

The fact that you believe Randy frigging Moss is going to save your franchise, that my friends is called 'delusional'.
I'm beginning to lose respect for Favre.....at some point, you have to shut up, stop crying at the end of every season (figuratively and literally) and either play, demand a trade, or simply STFU. He's just 1 guy of 53, something, given all of the man-love and adoration (some deserved, some not) thrown his way, that he's forgotten.

I seriously doubt the Bears or Vikings would even think they have a chance at him since they are both rivals and in their division.

miami would prob be a good fit, i hope it doesn't happen though cause we play them opening day. Although we play GB also so i guess it doesn't really matter. And theres no way they would trade him to vikes or bears or lions unless they got redic offer. tb just got jeff garcia so i think there okay. maybe the ealges will get him and trade donovan lol. i could see jacksonville wanting him, maybe buffalo also.

I highly doubt that the Packers would even consider trading him to a division rival. One can only imagine the outrage the packers fanbase would have as they watched Favre beat their team twice a year.
That would be a nightmare scenario for the Packers fans and organization.

I dont blame Favre. Look at their draft this year. They completely neglected help on the offensive side of the team. They lost their top rb. They lost their top fb. They did not get a good te. They didnt pick up any recievers. What gives?

At some point, people who used to respect you quit caring, Brett. We're at that point. No more crying, no more trade requests, no more waiting with baited breath for you to make up your damn mind. Shut up and play football or retire. It REALLY IS that simple.

I have to agree, I know he wants to win but this is seriously probably his last year. You might as well finish were you started, not many players now-a-days can say thay have stayed in one place as long as Favre has. Go out on a high note, finish your career with the Packers.

OK...Who's going to be the first one to speculate about McNabb for Favre and some picks..........Oh I guess it's me. I'm not saying I'd do it but it would be a hell of a news item. Brett reunited with Andy could QB for a year or 2 until Kolb is ready.

What an ass. He can't play anymore anyway, he'll be doing them a favor by getting out of there so the franchise can finally move on. He's been holding them hostage for at least three years now with his "will he or won't he retire" crap. Maybe you'd win if you stopped throwing 65 interceptions a year, Brett.
I'm so sick of this guy, the Packers stick their neck out to accomodate him and he asks for a trade. He doesn't care about winning, he only cares about going out on top so the Brett Favre love fest can continue into his retirement. What a bum.

Lets see--they dismantled his offensive line, let his best receiver and TWO starting quality running backs walk, and have basically left him out to dry for the past 4 years. I would want out too. He should go to the Bears and light it up--they need a grown man playing QB in Shytown.

i cant believe it! i mean im just trying to understand the real reasoning behind this. could he be feeling pressure from the younger QB's behind him? or is he dead set on playing another year to make his records seem even more unattainable? maybe he really has the strong desire to win another superbowl and has just lost faith in his team?!?!! this doesnt seem to make sense as i type but its shocking after 17 years how could one contemplate leaving that behind. nothing but failure can be drawn from that i fear...

In that case, shouldn't he go to the Falcons which is where he started? I wonder how Brett and Vick would get along. Wonder if Brett's 'other' name would be Ron Cuba? Wonder if Roddy White would be better than Donald Driver? Wonder if Brett has dogs?

Packers To Favre: 'Take Your Time, *******'
April 13, 2006 | | Onion Sports
ASHWAUBENON, WI—Green Bay Packers front-office officials have informed three-time MVP Brett Favre they can wait for his decision on whether or not he's planning to retire for "as long as it ****ing takes." "This is a big decision for Brett Favre, and we can't deny that he's the heart and soul of our team, the most important Packer, the most important person in all of America, and the center of the whole entire universe," Packer general manager Ted Thompson said Tuesday. "It's not like we have to make any major decisions that all hinge on whether or not he's returning, after all. We'll just ride around on our lawn tractors on our farm in Mississippi while we wait for him to make up his goddamn mind." Favre would not say when he might announce his decision, admitting that he was "too much in awe of what Mr. Brilliant Genius Thompson did with the 4-12 Packers last year" to commit one way or the other.

Tarhog,
I don't think it was a matter of Favre thinking he would save the franchise but it would at least show some kind of commitment to improving the team. I think that is what he is looking for. Not getting Moss for a fourth rounder probably looked like a money issue to Favre and irked him. Green Bay doesn't seem like they are in a hurry to get back to a Super Bowl. They haven't done much to help Favre and the offense.

Yawn. Favre should get back to basics -- you know, start going through his reads and stuff -- and quit being so dramatic every offseason.
Then again, Moss would have been perfect for Favre's patented "blindly throw the ball into triple coverage" style.

Moss is a player that would help a contender.. IF the packers got moss, maybe they win 8-9 games at best..
