Bengals release Sam Adams
Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - The Bengals terminated the contract of defensive tackle Sam Adams on Monday.
The 6-3, 350-pounder out of Texas A&M joined the Bengals last season as an unrestricted free agent from Buffalo, and started 16 games, with 25 tackles and two sacks.
Adams, a 13th-year veteran, has 297 tackles and 44 sacks over his career with Seattle, Baltimore, Oakland, Buffalo and Cincinnati.
"Releasing Sam is a very difficult decision," said Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis, "but the timing is such that it provides Sam the opportunity to obtain a roster spot with another team. Sam has had an outstanding NFL career, and we wish him and his family the very best."

Didn't I just read this in another thread?
Oh well, I'll say it again, I usually don't like when we sign older players, but Adams is a monster.

That might cost us more than a signing bonus. :D

IS this going to be our headlines to solve our problems??
Is DC the resting place for washed up/aged veterans??
This would have been nice a couple of years ago. But I wouldn't sign for anything more than the minimum wage.

I'd take him..
Only if I had a time machine and get the Sam Adams from 2003 and swap him with the 2007 version.

He's like the Robert Horry of the NBA....Been to the promised land/ done great things...aging...not done yet....not a starter...good relief to wear down teams and rest the starters.

He only averaged about 1.5 tackles/game last season and he will turn 34 soon! Why on Earth would we try and sign him? Let's just continue to try and coach up younger players and sign one free agent between 25 - 28 years old.
If Gibbs truly wants to build for the future, he needs to get some youth on the D.

Somewhere, on every nfl team message board, there is a thread exactly like this one.

averaged 1.5 tackles?
....as a DT?
I think I averaged that sitting on my couch last season - didn't watch him at all last year but always knew the name to be synonymous with some beastly play. I guess that was a little while ago.
I can't imagine that his size wouldn't help our line but I agree with trying to develop our younger players and getting another younger free agent.
