View Full Version : The Good Ol' Fashioned 'Hammy' Injury...

I was looking at a list of the guys who aren't participating, and quite a few of them have hammy injuries and calf injuries. Now I'm no expert on the matter (though I like to pretend I am) and I remember quite a few former players say that there were many times they faked hammy injuries in order to get out of OTAs. I'm not saying Santana or BLloyd are doing this but what do you guys think? You think it happens pretty regularly or is it something dummies like me think about to pass the time in the offseason. :kickcan:

i think a lot of it is players just not being in football shape towards the start of the year. as hard as they workout during the offseason, its not the same as organized activites.

I don't think they are fake. Lloyd knows he needs to step it up. Moss actually was limping said one of the articles. So I don't think its faking.
I just hope these don't follow into the year. Its a death sentence for WRs.

I know some players take it easy during the offseason. I don't think Moss would do that because he's shown he'll do what it takes to win. However BLloyd has not been on winning teams lately so I could see it happening with him (again not saying he is currently doing it).

With all these small hampering injuries that are being reported on Portis, Moss, Marshall, Washington, and others I wonder if Gibbs is regretting letting the players workout on their own during the off-season. Correct me if I am wrong but I don't rememeber all these little injuries over the last few years when the players were enouraged to workout at the park.
I think the players might have worked out on their own but not properly including cutting which now is causing these pulls and strains when they actually started moving on the field a bit. At this rate imagin how many they might actually lose when they go full speed this weekend?

I wouldnt say they are faking it... i have had that injury before and when you feel any discomfort back there you should take it easy.... really easy....
I hope none of them are serious and nothing more than soreness or a little more.... like said above hopefully they take it easy all off season so it completely heals because if you start back too early on a sore hammy it can pull again and worse the second time.....

I agree, a nagging hamstring is the worst. I have no problem even if Gibbs decided to sit them out so they don't get injured.

I often thought about this...if I'm a Confederate soldier at Pickett's Charge, I run about 50 yards into the field and pull up with a hammy. Yup. Live to fight another day.
BTW - I have pulled my hammy and it HURTS. You really do have to baby it back to health. No foolin'.

When it's mid Decermber, the playoffs are on the line, and everyone else is beat up, you don't hear one word about hammys unless they are serius. In early June, you don't take chances. A hammy injury could be serious, it would be just a sore muscle that they THINK might be a pulled hammy. Either way, why take a chance in June? It's not like they need you to play through it.
Just my two cents, I could be wrong.

I pulled a hamstring when I used to fight, they go away, they just need time. Maybe they are worried about irritating them (for lack of a better word?), so they would rather just rest these injuries so they don't come back at all during the season.
Before some bigger competitions I would just rest and stretch rather than risk irritating the hamstring more, I think thats the idea.

I think it is because it is Summer time and ane they are not keeping fluids in them. This can cause cramps and tweeks.

i pulled mine two weeks ago playing basketball and now i still play but i rely solely on my jumper because everytime i try and beat somebody off the dribble it pulls real tight..a sore hammy though still allows u to work out i run everyday and usually dont even feel it its when u go real hard that it starts bothering you

It does allow you to work out, but if you want it to go away, even when pushing hard, you have to rest it/stretch it. So rest it now, and then they may not have to work through it during the season. I think every play in the nfl is going hard.

As long as they are healthy and good to go during Opening day, that's all that matters.
