Shawn Springs Excued Again (Let's Keep Our Fingers Crossed For Him)

Shawn Springs left practice about 20 minutes in, and had to return to the hospital. He chatted briefly with Coach Joe before sprinting off the field and leaving. His wife gave birth to a baby boy this week, but something came up back at the hospital. Coach Joe will update the situation after practice and obviously we're all hoping for the best.

Also, Rocky McIntosh is not here. His wife had a baby girl and Rocky is expected back for tomorrow's practice.

Clinton Portis actually donned a helmet and pads for some light drills after spending the first hour or so working out on the sidelines with Santana Moss. Clinton did some individual work, but really any team stuff. Still, it's more than we expected.

In the personnel department, Jason Campbell looked very sharp in team drills, moving the ball and threaded tough passes in the red zone. It was pretty impressive.

Surprisingly, given all the veteran offensive line depth collected this season, Will Whitticker worked in Randy Thomas's spot as starting right guard (Thomas had minor knee surgery this week). Whitticker is a big dude (6-5, 338), and a third-year guy out of Michigan State. He started 14 games for Green Bay in 2005 and was with Miami last year, but did not play. He was a seventh round pick by the Pack in 2005.

In fashion news, Chris Cooley has plumbed new depth. Some of you remember the booty-shorts look he sported early in training camp last year. Well, it's gotten worse. He looked like Dingle from Reno 911 out there today with the short spandex going on. If I only I had a camera phone to share the madness with you guys. I'll try to track a photo down.

I hope everything is OK with the kid, but this dude is never with the team at practice. That can't be good.

:applause: Awesome. It's good to hear all of this universal praise for JC.

Man, every time I hear something about Campbell it gets me even more excited to see him in action.

Edit: Best of luck to Shawn and his baby. It sounds like something is wrong. Hopefully I'm wrong and all is well. Regardless, I'll keep Shawn, his wife and his newborn baby boy in my thoughts.

Springs is having a baby, Rocky's having a baby - anyone on the team NOT having children?

Birth, death, and family take priority on any field. Especially on a Joe Gibbs field. I am not worried about Springs being out of practice at all. So far, he has had a valid reason for each occasion.

There's your mental picture for the day. Did he have the 'stache working too?

Yeah, especially after his grandson's issue. Gibbs is probably more than willing to excuse Springs.

It sounds serious. Family matters have priority over football.

And it always should. Even if Springs not being there somehow effects our record (very VERY doubtful) I'd say the same thing. Family comes well ahead of football.

It's Dangle, not Dingle.

Gotta wonder what's up with the kid to miss time at this point...hopefully nothing serious.

I'm not surprised at all that Whitticker is getting some reps at Randy Thomas' spot. The young guys need all the work that they can get, and it is good to find out where these guys are and how they fill in.

I wouldn't be surprised if Whitticker is penciled in as Thomas' primary backup right now.

Thank God, here is the most recent update on Springs baby, and it appears not to be that serious. :)

Okay, Shawn's baby had to be re-admitted for jaundice, which is pretty common. So things look pretty good in that regard and after a day or two of treatment - I know with Chloe we just had to expose here to light, etc., when she was jaundice - everything should be cool.

Good to hear that. Glad everything is ok now.
