View Full Version : Season Ticket Proposal

Hey guys, excuse me for the 15000th season ticket thread, but I'm thinking of proposing this to a buddy who lives in DC. I want to know if you guys think this is fair.
First, I live in LA and unless I was independantly wealthy I won't be able to make all 8 games. ....2 usually...3 if I'm lucky.
So this is what I'm thinking of asking a friend. He's a big skins fan who lives in DC...so I'm thinking of asking if he want to go half on the package...4 regular season games and 1 preseason (yeah who cares about preseason) each.
The only catch...since it's my waitlist number, my seats, my deposit and me dealing with that ticket office of ours (LOL) and being that I'm doing the cross-country travelling I get first pick (including playoffs) at the games I want to go to.
Is that fair or am I being a jerk.

In order for this to be authentic, you'd have to retract the offer to your friend the next day :D

I wouldn't go for that. But if he agrees to it, then that's his decision.
Not that I know from experience, but if you go for the season tickets, I would imagine, it wouldn't be hard to move the tickets you can't use between your friends, your friends' friends, people on this website and ebay/stubhub etc.

I say you pick two first and then alternate. That's fair and you said you usually only make it to two anyway.

I can actually answer this from personal experience.
I've lived in LA for about 21 years now...and have Redskin season tics. The first few years my brother in law took the seats...then, a friend.....then, an acquaintance in LA with business ties in DC. Basically, I figure I've got a few different ways to handle this.
I can do the stub-hub or ebay thing...but, then you're either dealing with the seats on an individual game basis...much too much work for me.....or, you're selling them off as a whole package and, while you'll keep your seats, you'll have rare opportunity to go to any games.
I've been lucky in that I've always been able to find either family or friends to use the seats....that keeps it an open discussion. I end up buying the seats each year and they then cut me a check for the total. If there are any games I'm sure I'll go to, I buy them back prior to the season...or, at least give them the heads up that I'm interested in those games. I really only get back for a game a year.....so, it's not too nuts. Usually, these people end up using the seats for business...giving them to clients and such...so that makes it even easier. If we're lucky enough to get into the playoffs, I'll make sure, first, that they want to buy the playoff tickets and, if so, I'll buy them and get them to reimburse. If we don't make it, then the money rolls over to the next season's package anyway, so it's no big deal. If they DO make the playoffs and I'm REALLY into making it back for the game/s...then I'll either get them to let me have the seats (since they ARE mine)...or, since they may have been going to games all season....I'll try to reach a reasonable agreement like going together, alternating games (you take the wild-card, I get the championship) or something along those lines. Sadly, I haven't had to deal with that scenario too often lately.
I try to fair to the guys going, though.....letting them know if there are games I want ahead of time so they don't get boned for their trouble. In the end, they're doing ME a favor by buying the seats from me. I try to remember that even though I selfishly would love to just go to every game.
There you have it.....good luck.

Maybe you could assign a "value" to each of the games...ie...
The NFC East games are the premier of course so they hold more value than say the Lions, Cardinals or Bills...the Miami game is the opner so that has alot of value and the Bears game is a Nationally televised game so that is pretty big...
I'd say something like this:
Dallas 100 pts
Philly 95 pts
NY Giants 90 pts
Dolphins 85 pts
Bears 85 pts
Cardinals 60 pts
Lions 50 pts
Bills 40 pts
...or somehting like that...this way you can have equal "value" even if the number of games is not the same...
A split of the 3 NFC East games vs. the 5 other games might be considered a fair value...
Or the Cowboys, Dolphins, Cardinals and Lions might be a fair split...you get the idea...
You can give me the Dolphins tickets if it helps you make a perfect split..lol

I know a couple of people who split seats and most do it NFC East vs. everything else. One does it first choice (always Dallas), next two (almost always Phillie & NYG), then rotate picks.

I considered a similar deal last year before deciding to get my own pair.
Personally, I wouldn't be too inclined to take the 4 "leftover" games considering I would be paying fully half-price (full-price for preseason included). However, I probably would if you picked one game 1st, I one 2nd, and so on.
You said you may only go to 2-3, but you might also consider what I am doing this season. I'll likely be going to 5 or 6, but I am taking 1 seat of a pair for the entire season. In my case I partnered with another ES'er.
The advantage to this is you still split the cost with your friend, and have 1 seat in hand for whichever games you want to attend so you can fit in whichever game fits your schedule, keeping all options open. Both parties likely won't be able make every game, and the other gets 1st dibs on the extra seat if we want to take a family member or another freind.
Granted, you may get stuck with a couple singles which can be a pain to sell, but your not on the hook for several pairs to undersirable games.

Sounds to me like the best plan is to alternate picks, via a 'draft' if you will. Of course you will take Dallass, then he'll take NYG or Philly, you'll take the remaining NFCE game, then the chips will fall from there. I also like the suggestion of you take Dallass, he takes NYG & Philly, then alternate from there. Dallas is the most fun, after all. Especially when we win, I am 2-0 live at Skins-Pukes games at FedEx (knock on wood).

Well you better be there this year because this is my first DallasRedskins game in DC EVER!!!! So I'm 3-0 life time at Fed EX...so we'll take our combined 5-0 record in to Fed Ex on 12/30!!!!

We are splitting our tickets with someone this year. We thought the only fair way to split the NFC games was that one person got Dallas and the other person got Philly and the Giants. We said we wanted Chicago. He said he wanted Miami. All other games were selected at random. We had no problem with this. We aren't able to make it to all the games so this was a win/win for us. However, in years past, we have had no problem getting rid of our tickets for face value.
