which big guys in the league do you think can be that banger/defensive presence we need in the post and is a player that we can feasibly get through a trade. Please no etan, haywood, AD, pecherov, and 2 first rounders for KG or amare type scenarios. I'm talkin about a low key guy that wouldn't cost much to get, like a Darko or someone else. Particularily a guy we can get for JCN and another player or a draft pick. I personally thought darko would have fit perfectly here, but oh well.

If you can keep his attitude under check, Danny Fortson is a monster.

Danny Forston is done in the NBA. I doubt you'll ever see him play another game for anybody. He hasn't been healthy in almost three years.
Now, believe me when I say this, I've looked at every roster on every team and compared their big men to ours, looked at their salaries and ours and what other teams have, and what they lack and there aren't many options out there for trades, especially when your intent is to upgrade the center position.
There just aren't that many good centers out there and very few that teams would be willing to trade.
Sure, there are some pipe dream trades out there that can work salary wise but GM's aren't going to go for it.
The one team I keep coming back to no matter how many times I look is the Atlanta Hawks. We might be able to swing a trade using Etan and Navarro as bait. The trade I would make is C Etan Thomas and PG/SG JCN for C Zaza Pachulia and PG Anthony Johnson.
Anthony Johnson is a throw in player to make the salaries work, but we could just buy him out or cut him like we did with Chucky Atkins a few years ago.
Zaza is an upgrade at the Center positon for us and the Hawks would be getting a backup at PG and maybe a starter at SG.
Other than that, nothing else seems to make sense to me from another teams perspective.

Etan, AD, and the rights to JCN for Camby and Demar Johnson (as a salary filler.) That's my ultimate dream. Denver has like no guards after AI so they have to want some, and then they've been talking about trading Camby for awhile now, for whatever reason.

Actually, the SE should be interesting:
-Hawks got Law and Horford
-Charlotte got Dudley, plus with an extra year of experience could make some noise
-Miami's Miami
-Orlando's Orlando (Howard anyone?)
-then there's us

Well, to start the offseason, that was my dream trade as well based on the same fact that Denver didn't have any point guards after AI and the chances of them resigning Blake seemed very remote.
But the more I thought about it, I didn't think we could afford to lose Antonio Daniels as a backup PG. He showed in the playoffs how valuable he is to this team. Would you really be happy going into the season Miles or some other guy as backup to Gil?

Mike Sweetney (FA) - Not that he would make an impact, but his post offense is better than Etan.
I know that EG plans on resigning Booth for his vet locker room presence, but I can't help but think that there is someone more productive out there who can fill his spot.

stromile swift would be perfect. shot blocker, tough guy w/ a ton of athletic ability. he would be EJ's next kenyon martin.

What about Chris Mihm? He's a FA and is telling everyone he's healthy now. I wonder how much he's asking for? My guess is he's looking for a one year deal somewhere.

Yes to Mihm. When he is healthy, he is offensively a top 15 center in the NBA. I'd sign Sweetney if we didn't have so many PF's already.

If we could get a 1st rounder for JCN and Etan, I would then sign Sweetney to replace him. That would be ideal.

my ultimate big man pick would be samuel dalembert or marcus camby......although i know they are not to be had.................

Dalembert is way overpaid. Low bball IQ player who needs to be shielded by playing next to a Duncan or KG.

See that's the one sticking point for that deal with me as well. I agree that AD is a very valuable asset for the team, and I have no clue who would then back up Gil. But, there have been multiple stories out there of EG looking to move not just Etan, but AD as well. I assume he has a plan in that case.

Although I'm not too fond of his 6 million dollar bench salary...I really hope AD stays with the wizards.

You know, reading hands11 repetitive, long winded and self congratulatory posts can give me a serious headache, but lost in all his minutia is the possible truth.
I can't believe Ernie signed AD to that contract, expecting him to be a bench player. I'm sure he signed him with the thought he would be starting next to Gilbert as the PG and Gilbert as the SG. But he doesn't coach the team so his plans don't always get put into fruition.
I'd hate to see AD go, because after Gil, Caron and AJ, he's the 4th best player on this team, not including the rookies.

I always thought Memphis and Houston were bad fits for Stro. They run two of the slowest and most methodical offenses in basketball (mostly related to the play of their all-star centers). I'd like to see what he could do in a more open offense. I think we could really take advantage of his athleticism in our quicker style of play.
A low-risk, medium/high-reward player :2cents: .

It's a double-edged sword though, man. If we get Stro, unless we trade Songaila, there are still not going to be minutes for Blatche. Stro > Songaila too. He has Songaila's' mid-range jumper shooting ability wiht the shotblocking and athleticism.

Song will be gone by the trade deadline....possibly alot sooner.....People are talking him up right now but last season he was nothing great so I think they are trying to up his trade value.

If we don't land another PF, I doubt that. I know he wasn't 100% last year, but would slightly better hops really make that much of a difference in his game? I can see maybe one more board a game, but Songaila is basically a rich man's Brian Cook.

Sweetney is still a RFA though. Even if we sign him to an offer sheet for what's left of our MLE (~ 2 mil), I bet Chicago would just keep him, just to keep him away from us.

NBC.com had Songaila as the 7th worst signing of last offseason.

They also had Marcus Banks as the #1 worst signing, which is a little harsh. And calling him untradeable is absurd. He is only 25 and he just put up 42 pts in a summer league game, which just screams potential and will make a team bite if they want to move him.
1) Marcus Banks, Phoenix Suns -- 5 years, $21 million
Mike D'Antoni had high hopes the Banks would become an important part of the rotation, playing big minutes in the backcourt as a backup to Steve Nash. However, Banks quickly fell out of favor, rarely finding his way off the bench in the season's second half. Banks is still just 25 so it may be too soon to give up on him completely, but with four years and more than $17 million left he's virtually untradeable.
