According to two league sources, the Washington Wizards last night offered restricted free agent forward Andray Blatche a three-year deal worth about $11 million.
Blatche was said to be mulling over the offer last night, one source said.
The offer is substantially smaller than the one Blatche and his agent, Eric Fleisher, are said to be looking for. Blatche, who turns 21 next month, has had his name mentioned as a player who might possibly receive the mid-level exception, which has a starting salary of $5.35 million in the first season.
One team that had been mentioned in connection with Blatche was Dallas. But the Mavericks, who are over the luxury tax, had not made Blatche an offer as of last night.
Should Blatche turn down the contract — which one source said he was leaning toward signing — he still can accept an offer from another team. If they so choose, the Wizards can match any deal made to Blatche.
Messages left with both Blatche and Fleisher last night went unreturned.
In his second season in the league, Blatche averaged 4.5 points and 3.5 rebounds a game. That represented a marginal step up from his rookie season, when Blatche averaged 3.7 points and 3.4 rebounds.
In other developments, the Wizards lost another potential suitor for point guard Juan Carlos Navarro when the Miami Heat signed veteran point guard Smush Parker, a starter for he better part of the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Wizards had been shopping Navarro, who played last season with FC Barcelona, along with center Etan Thomas. But no team has expressed any interest in taking that tandem.

Shoot, I'd be on :cloud9: if I was 20/21 and making $3.67 mil. a year. This dead seems more than reasonable IMO.

^ Especially with him not getting any offers yet. This is looking like a good offseason for the Wizards.

haha they messed up. Blatche put up 4.5/3.5 in the playoffs, not in the regular season and he put up 3.7/3.4 this year, not last year.

Ivan Carter says he hears we didn't offer 3/11

Weekend update
I was on the phone this morning talking to a team source who refuted a published report which said Ernie Grunfeld has offered Andray Blatche a three-year, $11 million deal. Ernie's made an offer, make no mistake about it, but I hear that it's less than that.
I'll stick by my gut feeling that Andray will wind up signing a three-year deal for something in the neighborhood of $9 million. Thing is, Andray has every right to ask for three-years, $11 million because that's what Amir Johnson got from Detroit. Stay tuned. I do know this: Ernie probably won't sign Dominic McGuire until a deal for Blatche is done. Gotta stay under that luxury tax baby.

Wow, watch Blatche sign for 3 years 9 mil. Ernie would be a certified genius if that happened. (If he's not already.)

Wow, this is funny. Jared Jefferies signed a monster contract, and its clear between him and Blatche, who has more potential. I love EG.

How long does this go on for? I suppose there must be some behind the scenes negotiating going on?

How long does this go on for? I suppose there must be some behind the scenes negotiating going on? Probably. Plus, we can match any offer. I'm sure we'll work something out w/ Dr. Dray :deal:

JCN, Haywood and AD to Boston for 2 seconds....which is better than a first when it comes to EG.... EG cant pick first rounders but he is great at second rounders.

The latest is that the Barca GM is going to try to find a way for Navarro to play without a contract next season in the ACB so that we lose his rights and he can sign with any team as a FA next year.
Man, I really hope one day we have some Euro player on this team that Barca falls in love with and that we don't give him away to them no matter how much they beg for him.

Ivan says latest deal is 5 years, 12.5 mil. Talk has been brewing about the Celts, but they just signed Eddie House.

I'm pretty sure the Wiz can at least trade JCN for a 1st no matter what, so waiting until 11:59 pm on August 2nd isn't a problem... I hope

One more day and ticking. Looks like we are waiting till the last moment. I can't wait to get this figured out.
Navarro's European team, FC Barcelona, said Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld has until the end of business tomorrow to trade Navarro's NBA rights. If the deadline passes, Navarro will return to Barcelona and his buyout will rise to $14 million.
Grunfeld is trying to save what little remaining money the team has to keep Blatche, who has been offered a five-year contract worth roughly $12.5 million and is mulling over his options, according to a league source. Should Blatche sign an offer sheet with another team, the Wizards would have seven days to decide whether to match it.
