I don't know if any of you have watched the show "Shaqs big challenge" or not but it is amazing.
From this point forward I can never say anything bad about Shaq. He has challenged the governor of florida to force PE in school and education on health and nutrition. They have shown the governor that you can make lunch foods that are healthy and look like something from a nice restaurant at the same cost as the crap they sell now which is basically fast food.
The six kids in the show have had their lives changed forever now and that is all due because of Shaq's pledge to wipe out childhood obesity.
Shaq you make other NBA players like tiny with your contributions and have shown that you do care about kids as much as you say.

Yeah, that was a really good show. I was shocked at just how much weight a couple of those kids had lost.

PE? Obesity?
How about teaching kids about investments. 401k's. Mortgages. APR's. Mutual funds. CD's. Real Estate market. International trade.
Kids sure do know banana's are good for them, but damn if they dont know the difference between APY and APR or understand how to plan for their retirement.

/rant:wtf: Maybe you're waiting for Warren Buffet's Big Challenge or The Apprentice: Elementary School Edition ... I'm not sure Shaq would be the right person to be teaching investments.
He was definitely a great role model for helping fat kids get in shape though ... I watched the show off and on and saw the last half of the episode yesterday - it was a great way for him to make a difference in a few kids lives and hopefully influence a lot more people around the country. I can root against him on the court, but he's definitely doing a lot of good things outside of basketball.

Although you totally missed my point and no I do not think Shaq should be teaching FIN101, I was simply posting relative to the apparent shock that children arent learning anything that actually matters in school, and its ridiculous that PE is the response vs actual useful planning for their life....
....your Apprentice: Elementary School Ed was classic.

Those classes need to be in HS or College not elementry. As for PE I am ashamed for any school now not offering it. PE needs to be in school as well as after-hours type of activities.

The more you know the earlier, the better it is for you later in life.
You cant figure out in college that you needed to learn math to go into business or what an essay is so you can write reports that make sense, you need to learn it asap. Sex education should be taught in Kindergarten. I feel awkward trying to think of things to talk about when my little 8yo comes up with sex questions from things she heard in school. "Princess, is that a quarter behind your ear?"

I always respected Shaq and after watching a couple episdoes I now have a greater respect for him. The man saved some of these kids lives and was a positive infulence in all of their lives....I was impressed

I only saw a few minutes of 1 episode of the show (I think this week's episode). But from what I saw in those few minutes parents of FAT kids should be arrested and charged with child abuse. That's just sticking your kid with a disadvantage very early in life. A few weeks ago, I saw this kid at the beach with a beer belly that rivals any you'll find on a adult beer-drinking-couch. I felt like finding his parents and punching them out.

What pisses me off is they take away our soda machines as if THAT was the problem! Look at your freakin' lunches! That was such a stupid decision. Schools can only do so much, it is at home where the change needs to occur.
