Wizards And Grizzlies Finalize Navarro Trade
August 16, 2007 - 3:33 pm

RealGM Staff Report -
Washington Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld announced today that the team has acquired a future first round draft pick from the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for the rights to Juan Carlos Navarro.

“We’re pleased to acquire a first round pick, which gives us an additional asset,” said Grunfeld. “Our backcourt, led by Gilbert Arenas, DeShawn Stevenson, Antonio Daniels and our recent draft pick Nick Young, is deep and versatile. By trading the rights to Juan Carlos Navarro – a former second round pick of the Wizards – we have greater flexibility to build our team.”

Navarro was originally drafted by the Wizards with the 40th overall pick in the second round of the 2002 NBA Draft.

(He doesn't say if it's restricted or not.)

Ivan put up the stipulations. Not quite as bad as we thought. Supposedly, Ernie did not get any better offers.

Are you kidding? It's terrible.

I would have rather gotten nothing and not helped Memphis. They got the much better end of this deal and when the other teams get the better end of a trade, it's a bad trade.

What an awful trade....I thought EG was a great GM....

The only way this trade makes sense is if EG can use it as an asset to get something better, or perhaps to dump one of our centers.

Since when, is a trade of a 2nd round pick, 5 years removed for a 1st round pick a bad trade?

Oh, I know where, in fantasy land.

I'm confused on the part about second rd pick and cash after 2013.
if wiz don't have the first rd pick by then, do we still get the first? or just the second and cash?

I guess when it's all said and done, the Wiz gave up a 2nd round pick for a 1st round pick. I'm OK with that.

I hate the way the NBA does business. This trade has more strings than Pinoccio (sp.?).

I'm not convinced we'll get a 1st round pick. I do hope the Grizz make some hay so we get a pick in a few years, but if Gasol goes out injured again, you can kiss their near-term future goodbye.

That is exactly what EG called it - an "asset"

Just by EG calling the pick an "asset" makes me believe he is going to package it w/one of our centers(I hope Etan) and some other filler to get a good player...

The guy was traded to the West (Remember, Miami was hot on him). We didn't have the cap room either. This isn't awful. Its "fair" I supposed.

There is a lot of youth on this team. You want another 2 1st rounders next season? Basically that's what's happening this year.

Maybe if Memphis isn't awful and we get their pick. We combine it with ours in a trade to get up even higher. Who knows? They kept Blache. That's another young guy with his own issues.

We aren't getting Hibbert. As much as I love the kid, he is a poor fit for our system. He needs to go to a half-court team.

Like I said, it's one of those trades where we're gonna have 2 first round picks in 2011 and can't remember why.

Are you kidding? It's terrible.

I would have rather gotten nothing and not helped Memphis. They got the much better end of this deal and when the other teams get the better end of a trade, it's a bad trade. You would rather not have a future first round pick? Memphis is in the West, what does it matter if it makes them better?
