Just thought I'd throw this out there as a public service announcement.

I called Direct TV and cancelled my Sunday Ticket earlier this month and made sure they knew I was cancelling because they had raised the rates again this year....to a total of about $275 for the season. I had purchased Sunday Ticket the past 4 or 5 years.

Today, Direct TV calls and offers me Sunday Ticket for an $80 discount, and throws in the Superfan package for free. So....I get it all for $189. I jumped on it. I love the package, but was not willing to pay the additional costs they keep adding. They came back and offered it to me at a substantial discount.

Maybe some fellow Skins fans can use this as a bargaining position to save a few bucks on Sunday Ticket. :2cents: :point2sky

Good job. I balked at paying for the new HD receiver upgrade and got it for free. They always give in.

Don't bet on it. They've had it for more than a decade. I broke down switched once I moved into my new house.

I also cancelled and they offered me the same pkg which i quickly accepted. I posted a thread about it in the tailgate to try to save other members money.

Why?

The Sunday Ticket is a bargain. You get every game all season for the cost of 2 people going to one game. What's not to like?

the price would drop if other carriers had it. I don't know where your sitting but the price of the direct ticket can get me one seat for one game and 3 jack and cokes at the humidor or whatever they change the name to this year.

Yeah, as much as I want sunday ticket with superfan, its just not worth the ridiculous price they are charging. So either they throw in superfan for free and give a price cut, or its not even worth signing up for anymore.

I've had Sunday Ticket every year since 1999. This year they are upgrading me to HD for free. Folks, it's a bargain anyway you slice it. Kinda sucks they jack up the price every year, but that happens all over. Sunday Ticket would be worth $500 or more to me per season. Just sayin' :)

I'm sure it wont be long before it really is $500, when you figure in the HD Tax (Superfan).

If you want to watch the skins everyweek guaranteed? Yes. I would never pay $100 for it, but the Superfan pkg is pretty sweet too. Especially if you play fantasy football. You can program your players in using your receiver, and the system updates you when your players score regardless of what channel you are watching.

Ok, I have to share what I got out of them one day 2 weeks ago. The day before I called my wife called for us(she's a better ballbuster than me :) ) and spoke with a female retention dept Rep and got no offers for anything free or discounted and was told that free upgrade swap for existing purchased boxes for new leased MPEG 4 HD DVR boxes is over. So I called the following day hoping for a male voice and got the following: I called and asked for Retention dept( of course) and asked the guy why my NFL Tix price went up as i thought i was grandfathered from day one at my price(knowing i had this exact discussion last year and it due to new deal signed recently with NFL) at $169 which is $60 less than current price they had on my bill. They offered to give me $10 off per month for a year(not 6 months which would make it even). So then I asked if the rate hike was for the Superfan cause its newish and I never got it before and he said "i'll give you that free since you're a loyal customer". So still i have not threatened cancel or bitched yet and i have gotten Free Superfan($99 dollar value) and $120 in account credits. I then asked if they are still doing the free upgrade program for current boxes to MPEG 4 cause when i upgraded my Dish to 5LNB in Feb and got one free new HD DVR and wanted another they said only one free per 6 months($299 value) and he said "sure its been six months and we are still doing it so i'll send that to you in 2 weeks for free"($299 value). Now they came and installed it and because i now have 4 DVRs and other sets(don't ask but i love me some tvs with four in basement alone(Gym, Kids room, Bar, Theater) and I wanted a 6x16 multiswitch(between $150-$400 value) and DTV doesn't give those for free they rigged to 6x8s together and said if signal loss occurs to call them and their manager will come out next day with a free 6x16 switch. I had loss soon after they left so called the installers cell phone and he said he'd call the manager that night. Next night i was in the theater hooking up my butt kicker amps and 2 dudes show up with brand new 6x16 multiswitch and install it and take off for free. So for two phone calls(one to DTV retention dept even though never bitched at all or threatened to cancel, and one to installer) i got in 2 weeks: $120 credits on my account, free Superfan($99), free HD DVR($299 minus $20 for delivery and install) and free 6x16 multiswitch($250 avg)....so a total of $750 worth of free equipment and services. Now I do my Kung Fu Action theater hearty belly laugh and will enjoy my NFL season.

Some peeps react to kindness and naiveness, some react to bitching, some don't know their offers or what they can do, some are on the ball. It all depends who you talk to in the phone bank sometimes. Just thought I'd share. Good luck. Hail Skins!!

Yeah and Comcast won't charge for the NFLN, I don't buy it, DTV is still the best bargain out there. If they change the Sunday ticket DTV would have to charge more because of losing the number of subscribtions. And those discounts, gooooodbye.

I just learned this the other day from a Directv rep I met..

He said that the NFL hates the fact that DTV has the NFL ticket but has no choice.. He explained that because DTV owns and operates all the cameras and broadcasting rights for all the stations FOX.... CBS.....etc.. Because of this DTV can do what ever they want with the games and that is why cable companies can't offer the same thing... The NFL replay that is offered with some cable companies but the cable company has to pay DTV.... Messed up...

I didn't think it was even possible but after talking with him for awhile I started to believe what he was saying... He seemed to know his stuff...

Imagine if the NFL could sell the package to every outlet? Cable and satellite?
Wow - I know DTV pays them a ton but probably not as much as they could make.

I have had the package for 3 years - worth every penny but have gotten the Superfan free both years by bitching. They always break.

Just wanted to say this worked for me too. Ive had Sunday Ticket since 1996. Just got around to calling today and stated that it's just gotten too expensive for me to keep... she got it discounted down to $149.00 and the HD Superfan package for free!!

And when they jack up the price next year, cancel and they'll come crawling back to you again. My old roommate and I used to play that game every year. Most people will pay the new rates so thats why they jack it up. But they'd rather keep you as a customer so they always give in. Try it with your movie channels too, its soo easy.

I have never paid for the Superfan. If you only want the games in HD, and are a DTV HD subscriber, call them up and tell them that you want them to waive that fee.

They do so for me every year without question.

I called them armed with information from this board about 6 weeks ago. Got the run around for a while. I have had the NFL sunday Ticket for 5 years. They told me they could do nothing so I canceled.

I saw this thread and called in again. The guy stated he could give me NFL Sunday Ticket for $229 with $60 worth of rebates and the superfan for free.

I asked why wasn't this offered to me upfront. He said he did not know. I asked why do some people get deals and others don't. I said wouldn't it be better if you had a simpler system that is not confusing to the customer. Of course this person could not answer the question. I asked for a manager and after about a 30 minute wait I was transfered.

I was supposed to be transfered to a manager but was simply transfer to another operator. The person promised that I was going to be speaking to a manager. Guess what I was not. Simply transfered to another operator in a different Department. This guy acknowledges the other person lied and get me to a retention manager. Now after almost an hour on the phone I get to talk to a manager.

We talk for about 20 minutes about customer service and such. At that point he informs me that I should have gotten Super Fan for Free automatically with my renewal. He apologized and gave me the Sunday Ticket and the Super Fan for $250 and then instantly refunded $200 to my account. Net cost $50.

I am going to buck the trend and bet that as a result of all the calls and all of the rebates, free stuff and lost time on their customer service lines you will see Sunday Ticket next year in all HD and a very similar price.

Um...you got ripped son! I just got Direct TV for the first time this past weekend from http://www.directstartv.com/

I get the Premier Package (every channel they offer 250+)...PLUS (4) DVRs...PLUS FREE NFL Sunday Ticket...PLUS FREE Installation (which they did on Labor Day)...PLUS a FREE iPod Shuffle.

All this for $70.00 per month for 4 months. After 4 months it will go up to $105 per month. If I decide to downgrade and get rid of the Premier Package...it's only going to be $65.00 per month.

That sounds like a bunch of hogwash. DirecTV bought the exclusive rights to broadcast non-market games FROM the NFL. It has nothing to do with who owns the broadcast equipment.

Even assuming it is true that DirecTV somehow owns the broadcast equipment, it'd be a minor investment to "role their own" and offer live non-market games to every major cable carrier.

I agree with you. I had Sunday Tichet the second year it was offered and just cancelled it last year.

Who in hell can watch all those games? I can't understand why Directv can't make up minnie packages of games from each division or as you suggest, offer it as a pay per view option.

Those people are a little anal.

The rep you talked to has no clue what he's talking about.
1. The NFL just signed their new broadcasting contracts, including FOX News Corp. and Directv, last year. The NFL loves Directv because FOX News Corp. came with the highest bid to keep the Sunday ticket exclusive to Directv. So why would the NFL hate the company that pays them more then half of their total 3.7 billion dollar contract, that number includes the deal with CBS, NBC and Disney(ABC and ESPN).
2. Directv owns absolutly nothing relating to CBS, NBC, or Disney. It cannot own FOX equipment as Directv is currently owned by FOX, soon to be Liberty Media Corp. Directv has the license from the NFL to broadcast all the games regardless of market but has no control over anything network or game broadcast related.
3. The replay package from cable companies has to deal with whether the cable company, or customer, carries or subscribes to the NFL Network. It is a feature that Comcast offers in their sports tier and has nothing to do with Directv.

Wow - I know DTV pays them a ton but probably not as much as they could make.

The Sunday ticket is a contractual deal. Thus the NFL can not make money off of the Sunday ticket. The NFL gets the value of the contract while Directv gets the consumer dollar. The reason it's an exclusive to Directv is because Direvtv simply out bid the competiton. The bid by News Corp. was so large that if News Corp. pulled their bid and the NFL went with the cable companies then the NFL would have lost money ove the next five years, the length of the new contract. The NFL practiced buisness sense and News Corp. made a move that protects Directv, as the Sunday ticket is the number feature that attracts new buisness.
What's funny is Rupert Murdoch(News Corp.) is in the process of selling Directv to John Malone, the owner of Liberty Media, in return for roughly 31% of News Corp. stock. This maybe the last contract that is done exclusivly for Directv. Which gives hope to all the cable subscribers out there.

DTV has done a good job in customer service retention IMO the last few years... while I was waiting for her computer to update, I asked why some get different offers....she said that all she can do is what is in her system which is based on the customers info (how long been a customer, etc) and her supervisor could possible do more.... she said in their meetings, customers satisfaction and retaining customers is the most important thing...
