Ed Tapscott And Dave Hopla To Join Wizards Staff
August 22, 2007

The Washington Wizards announced today the hiring of Ed Tapscott as Director of Player Development/Programs and Dave Hopla as Assistant Coach/Player Development on Head Coach Eddie Jordan’s staff. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

“Ed and Dave have an extensive coaching background and have proven to be very successful in working with and developing players throughout their careers,” Jordan said. “Ed will be instrumental in implementing different programs, which will be beneficial to our players both on and off the court. Dave excels in working with players in developing their all-around game. They both enjoy teaching the game of basketball and are great additions to a very well-rounded staff.”

Hopla is a great hiring. He is one of the great shooting instructors around the league and I can see guys like Pesh, D-Mac, and Caron really getting better with instruction from this guy.

Agreed. Lets not forget Haywood and Etan improving from the FT line.

This is just what the team needed.

OP is a pure shooter already. I really don't think he is going to need much help.

Blatche needs some help. And Haywood and Etan at FTs. Thats where I want to see he help show the most. Also, AD used to be a better 3 shooter. Some help there would be appreciated.

I remember Tap coaching AU's men's team when I was a student there. GREAT to see him with the Wizards.

haha my thoughts exactly True. Sorry hands, I know we're cool now, but if we want other posters to follow the rules (which we both do), best to read and follow them ourselves :)

No hard feelings?

Absolutely. His jumpshot stunk last year. Is it me or do Wizard big men gradually become worse shooters here? I remember Kwame came into the league with a jumper that just disappeared. Same with Jeffries.

LOL. Alright people... I know I was going to hear something from someone on this. Im aware of the rule.

I was already in a thread doing a post. In doing some research along the way I found this article. There wasnt a thread when I started or I would have read it. So I opened a window and hit new thread. Then when I posted it I saw something 'Wiz hire ex-Bobcats prez as director of player development "

What was I supposed to do at that point?

Anyway... I like my headline better :D

Hoooayyyy

This team hasn't been big man friendly for a long long time. It starts with a solid pure PG in my book. No pure PG, no development of bigs.

The last time I remember hearing anything of note regarding a dedication to post play was EJ a few years back going into the playoff telling the team he wanted to have them feed the middle.

I think this lasted like 2-3 games before Gil and AJ spoke out. 2-3 games isn't enough time to get a post game worked out. Amazing how much Gil has to do with what kind of offense we run. Who the hell is the coach of this team anyway? This is another reason I haven't liked Gil at PG.

I can't wait till Abe sells the team. Ownership and front office has been this teams problem for a long time. Things have gotten better since Wes was moved out and now La Suz but don't forget how bad we were and for how long with them. That is all on Abe.

I still believe there are front office issues going on and that has lead to more bad decisions or missed opportunities that has delayed the development of this team. Its not going to be stable until Abe is gone.

The Abe - EJ - EG thing isn't good in my book. EG has the best record of all 3. I would trust him over the other 2.

Then answer the question in my posted thread....What is going on with EG....He has not been announcing signings of coaching, players or FO staff... EJ has.

Abe seems to be meddling on EJ's behalf and getting more offensive minded coaches.... EG seems on the perimeter and his choice for the #2 behind EJ was let go/fired/released after a day or 2. The FO staff is being completely reworked and EG seems out of the loop.

Is this EG's last season or is it one last shot for EJ....Did EG/Abe say, "Make the team over anyway you like and if the team doesnt improve then you are fired."?

Or did Abe say, "I like where EJ is taking us.....EG, Pack your bags and be on the last flight out the day the season ends."?

FYI I like EG alot better than EJ.
