I will take the 17 1/2 that LSU is giving Miss st. I see a 17-3 game in the making.
UConn will beat Duke by more than the 4 they are favored by.

I don't know the spread, but I'm going to go ahead and pick Penn State to crush FIU this Saturday. I'll be at the game, hopefully watching a blowout. I mean, FIU is rated as the worst team in Division 1 according to ESPN, so I think I'm being pretty safe with this selection.
Hey, I'm 1 for 1 this season!!!

MO’ WEEK ONE CUPCAKES: PART TWO
Continuing our survey of week one cupcakes teams are playing in lieu of actual competition.
2. Florida International.
Playing: Penn State.
Mascot: The Panther. Roarrrrgh.
Stadium differential: Considering that FIU shares the Orange Bowl with UM, not as big as you might think: 34,863. (In fact, Florida International gets the final game at the Orange Bowl, not the ‘Canes, something we attribute to A’Mod Ned claiming the place for himself last year during the FIU/UM brawl. It’s really his to share or not, depending on how he feels.)
The line: Penn by 38.5
Beating best described as: Nikolay Valuev punching you in the face until you die. Florida International brings in a young head coach, Mario Cristobal, to get his first taste of being thoroughly and completely overmatched. They return the nation’s fourth best passing defense, which would be tasty happy news if Penn State needed to pass in this game. They don’t: PSU will run the ball at will on FIU with Austin Scott and the beefy Nittany Lion line and sandbag much of what they have in the playbook for next week. Morelli may give a gasp or two early by handing an easy pick over to FIU’s secondary, but if this surprises Penn State fans by now, we have other news for you: Richard Simmons sleeps with men.
http://www.tonyrogers.com/humor/images/valuev1_small.jpg
As for FIU as plucky little Joe…Sure, there’s a cut man in the corner, but you won’t need him. Cut men can’t help you dodge fists the size of an Ottoman coming at your head at ninety miles an hour. Soda Popinski wants his due, and he will suck if from your broken skull with a straw if he has to.

PSU -17 over the Irish
and MICHIGAN giving 8 to Oregon.

Navy (+16) to cover against Rutgers
WVU (-24) to cover against Marshall
BC (-14) to cover against NC State
Nebraska (-8) to cover against Wake
VT (+12) to cover against LSU
Miami (+10.5) to cover against OU
I think the VT/LSU and Miami/OU games are likely to be fairly low scoring, for double digit spreads.
3 dogs to cover, 3 favorites to cover. I'm going to be 0-6.

I am only going to pick one game this week:
Virginia Tech gets it handed to them.
Ok, I'll throw in that I think Michigan bounces back in a big way. I think it was awesome to see ASU upset them, but they are a top 20 team.

Clearly he is picking LSU at home giving 12.5. :D
IMHO 12.5 is too much with VT's defense and a first year QB for LSU, but its his pick.
He is also taking Michigan giving 7 (the line dropped since i posted). :D

I'll take Penn State again, over Notre Dame, I'll even take the 17 point spread on that one. Hell, even if we don't cover the spread, I'll be happy with a win. Also, LSU over Va. Tech, I just don't see Tech pulling this one out.
Anyway, here's a list of teams I don't see covering. Note that this does not mean I necessarily think they will lose, just won't win by more than the line.
West Virginia vs. Marshall...I may be holding onto the Marshall teams of a few years back with this one, but 24 points seems a little high here. I will now go watch WVU roll up another 70 points.
Oklahoma vs. Miami...I think Miami could win this outright, but 11 points I don't see. Miami is a faster team, which is always worth something. If Oklahoma wins, it's by 10 or less.
Ohio State over Akron...the spread here is 28.5, I don't think they beat Youngstown State by that much. How much worse can Akron be than Youngstown State? OSU wins, maybe in the 17-21 point range.
Fresno State covers 17.5 against Texas A&M.
TCU covers the 9 against Texas. I believe TCU could win this outright.

Ok, Ok.
LSU will cover the spread. 11
Michigan will cover the spread. 8
The Terps will cover the spread. 24
Florida State will cover the spread. Edit: 2:31 Saturday - FSU will not cover the 35
Auburn will cover the 8.5
I apologize if the idea that Tech is over rated stings a little bit, but LSU is the real deal and Tech is not. ;)
To those who bashed Michigan last week, you all place too much on the fact that Michigan sucked and didn't take into account that they played a quality football team. They'll bounce back. They deserve to be in the top 20.

Seriously, how does a team score 4 TD's on its first 4 possessions, rack up well over 700 yards of offense, and maintain possession for 40 minutes....and not cover? :whoknows:

Ok, Ok.
LSU will cover the spread. 11 LSU looks real good.
Michigan will cover the spread. 8 Crow tastes nasty MICHIGAN SUCKS!!!
The Terps will cover the spread. 24 Figured Ralph and the boys could have put up more points than that.
Florida State will cover the spread. Edit: 2:31 Saturday - FSU will not cover the 35
I took a long second look at this one and knew FSU would NOT cover 35.
Auburn will cover the 8.5 Sure underestimated South Florida. Tuberville screwed his boys at the end by not trying to win w/ 42 seconds and 2 time outs. Poor coaching at the end, but it wouldn't have mattered for my pick.

Hawaii was expected to run the table with ease...why does that surprise you? Because of the LA Tech game? If anything, I would think you would have expected them to come out blazing on all cylinders after that game. :whoknows:

Can 2 Division 1AA (to hell with what its called now) teams win over the big boys?
UMass over BC? And to a lesser degree, UC Davis over San Jose St? The former would be a suprise (BC is pretty decent - but then again, UMass is ranked #2 in 1AA right now).
UC Davis beat Stanford a few years back...and Stanford killed San Jose State this year...so its possible.
