And this is where we see whether this team is growing up or not. If we have to go without our horses, are we going to feel sorry for ourselves or are we going to just realize it is what it is a play with the hand we've been dealt?

Caldwell and McCardell is a better duo than Moss and Lloyd anyway. It's not that Moss isn't good, it's just Lloyd is really bad.

Hopefully El, Ladell and the rest can step it up if they do not play. I don't want the Lions to get there first win ever in Old D.C. :yikes:

if this is true then hopefully we get to see Lloyd get some passes. Caldwell should have the just of the offense by now and be able to go but I really want to see what, if anything, Lloyd brings to the table. I think Betts has a lot to prove after the NY game so we know he will step up and perform if need be. I'm not too worried, although I was bankin on a big day from Portis this week for my fantasy team...

I think Ladell can step up.
Sellers could get more carries......Cooley's roll will increase.
El will step in as we have found he can. THIS will be Lloyd's last chance IMHO. If he can't step up......I dont think he will get any more chances.
Although them being out would be a big hit.......I believe our offense can go without it.

Injuries are a part of the whole season. They happen.
We have proven guys that can get it done though. Ladell, ARE; Caldwell (hopefully)...
Either way..the injury report hasn't been updated yet.. If I had to bet on it right now, without knowing anything specific... I bet one, if not both, of these guys will play Sunday.

The Poritis situation bothers me most. But, maybe this will work out for Betts. He's the type that needs a lot of carries to get going. I'm thinking McCardell will get the most looks. Don't trust bug-eyes (Caldwell). He missed some easy passes last year. I think the guy is on meth or something.
Oh, and as for Lloyd? Just cut him now and eat crow while the season is ongoing. If you wait until after the season it will be worse. Or at least make him inactive and get our roster spot back. Tell him my little league team needs a get-back coach. I think that's something he could probably handle.

I agree Portis is a must have (we should be ok this week because Betts SHOULD be able to tear up a poor Lions Run D, El has shown that he can catch the ball, and we have decent backups, + Cooley. Moss being out isnt as bad as Portis being out.....I think.

Sorry man, but you gotta face reality. If the Redskins are bringing guys off the street and penciling them ahead of Lloyd, that should tell you something. Lloyd has no heart. He has talent, but he will never amount to nuthin. The sooner you and other guys that Lloyd has brainwashed realize that fact the better you'll be.

No way!... We have another RB but at WR, we have nothing after Moss
DCranon21
October-2nd-2007, 08:02 AM
I like both but
Portis > Moss in this situation. Reason being is because Portis is productive on the ground, as Moss may catch 4-5 balls, but they are lethal catches. But we do need both on the field.

ITs a bluff, why wouldn't portis play, Portis even said in the preseason regarding the knee that if it were a regular season game he would play. Moss is something else. The WRs all of them except for lloyd are thrash clones. Meaning, strong, up the middle, not scared to get hit type players. The quite working type that don't talk much but gives all to the team. El will be a good sub for Moss so I'm not really worried.

I agree with you on Lloyd, the guy has all the talent in the world but is a lazy piece of garbage! You would think this would be a wake up call to him and it would enable him to step up and showcase his talents, but nooooooooooooo!!! he probably wallows away in self pity blaming everyone else but himself which, unfortunately is typical of most athletes!
I have ZERO confidence is Cladwell, my brother is Charger fan and my old college roomate is Pats fan and both of them said that he drops way to many EASY passes!!

Why all the fuss? That's why we have backups on the roster.
If the coaches have no confidence in the 2nd string players, why the heck are they on the roster? The patriots are missing more players than we are, and they haven't missed a beat.
It's time for Lloyd and Thrash to step up. And if they can't do it, then it's time to pack their bags. I don't want to see McCardell on the field Sunday, unless it's an emergency.

CP will get the booster shot, he'll just need lots of ice after the win.
Moss should probably sit. We have ARE, Thrash, Caldwell, McCardell and that Cooley guy who just got the big buck$. Look for Cooley to have a huge game.
Our defense will have to produce. As I correctly predicted last week, Fletcher nabbed an INT and will get another this week. He's just a playmaker, pure and simple.

If his knee felt fine in practice the week of the Giants game, felt fine during the game, and "felt fine" after the game, and they had last week off ...
I'm sorry, did I miss something? Either we're already giving him the shot every game (and probably doing permanent damage since he can't feel the pain), or he hurt his knee during the week off. I'm not sure which scenario is more concerning.

It's messed up but you kind of have to look at the Jansen injury as the start of a very bad trend. That's why I said after Thomas went out that we were done. Because CAmpbell has not yet morphed into Tom Brady and when TWO guys on ONE SIDE go out for the year, it's kind of difficult to imagine there won't be MORE injuries, possibly serious ones.
I don't think we ARE done but I'm not liking these reports.

I agree, I'm not at the practices or in the meetings, but if they are signing these guys off the street, that says something about BLlyod. We all know the guy has talent, and I just don't know if i can take another wasted 10 million backup player. At least cut him and open the roster spot.
I think we should be giving him more chances if we are going to keep him active though, I know I am not a coach, but giving him one pass opportunity a game and then dictating his playing time doesn't make a lot of sense. That would be like giving Portis one carry and if he doesn't get 5 yards, we never go back to him?
Seems like all that extra conditioning and bulking up was a waste for him this off season. he should have been in VA building chemistry with Campbell. One thing i have noticed with this coaching staff, is that it seems they will not hesitate to bench a player if you don't fall in line; i.e. Springs not being a starter in the first 2 games.

The people who are down on Thrash really bother me. Thrash has been a class act thoughout his entire career. He has made some clutch catches and has shown he can be a go to receiver. I don't follow stats and all of that so I don't know if Thrash has ever STARTED for the redskins before but I feel if given the opportunity he will be just as good as the others. I think CBs will sleep on Thrash, especially if we have him in the game with ARE & McCardell at the same time. I hope they mix up the combinations and we see McCardell & Caldwell make some nice grabs also.

Portis Update
Bubba Tyer just came in to clarify Clinton's injury. Yesterday Coach Joe said that Clinton had suffered another bout of tendinitis in his right knee, but that was incorrect. Gibbs was assuming that was the case, according to the club, and misspoke, but Bubba just told us that Clinton actually has a bruise and a sprained right knee (grade 1, the most minor sprain possible), suffered in the first quarter of the Giants game. When asked if that injury would have prevented Portis from making those last carries, Bubba said not specificually, since Clinton had been playing with the soreness all game and was not to his knowledge pulled out of the game because of the knee.
Bubba believes Clinton will play Sunday, but it will be day by day with Portis and Moss. Santana has not yet run since hurting his groin and that injury seems the most iffy of the bunch. Santana has been running in a water tank - not on land - and each day is a feeling out process.
Bubba said the rest of the "walking wounded" - McIntosh, Daniels, Griffin, Marcus - are all scheduled to practice as normal. Sean Taylor has a bruised knee but it's not enough to keep him from practice, Bubba said, while Fred Smoot's hammy will limit him in practice some but he is expected to play after missing the last two games.
I knew CP would be good to go.

The fact that Lloyd didn't find it necessary to stay with all of the other healthy WR's to work on routes with JC is so frustrating it is ridiculous. I can identify with not getting the playing time you think you deserve, I played an NCAA d-1 sport...but I always took every opportunity, all of the time to attempt to show why I did deserve it. People like Lloyd frustrate me because they have all the talent, none of the drive.

I'm sure McCardell will be in on a few packages but I would not expect him to see significant playing time. One week of practice is not sufficient time to learn our, or anyone's playbook to the extent of starting material. My guess (undeducated at that) would be that if Moss sits out the lineup will be El, Thrash, Lloyd, Caldwell with McCardell in on a few plays if he is activated.

Lloyd won't see much I don't think.. how often do we run 4 WR sets?
and in 3.. we'll run thrash, are, caldwell... thrash being number 1 almost leads me to believe it's not so much his leadership, but that we'll be running single receiver sets and since he's the best blocker at WR, that we'll be running a lot

"I know the offense pretty well and hopefully I'll have the opportunity to play this week," Caldwell said. "We'll see how it goes this week and where we're at on Sunday. I thought I was going to play last week but I don't find out until the day of the game. So I'll keep learning as much as I can."
I understand you won't always know your best players at the beginning of the week, but you'd think the guy would know if he was going to get any playing time before the day of the game.

Exactly what are the advantages to running in a water tank?
We use pools in rehab in order to facillitate aerobic conditioning without the major impact and strain of land based running. Using water as a medium allows a therapist or trainer to conduct drills similar to land in a lower stress environment. If the client or patient does well in an aquatic environment, it will allow for a transition to land with greater strength and less stress on the body in the initial stages. Remember, following an injury, there is some muscle weakness. The pool or "tank" allows this strength increase in a controlled environment which allows a smoother transition to the field.
Hope that hepls. IM me if you want a more in depth approach.

Exactly what are the advantages to running in a water tank?
Our bodies weigh much less in the water, so it's less stressful and much easier to move. It's similar to how many obese people that aren't able to jog or even power walk, but the water allows them to work out, and eventually they can work their way back to walking.

Yeah at least Cooley may be able to become a TE again instead of a blocker.. I don't think our receiving corp will be that broken without Moss. We have other players that can play but some just need to step up.

id be highly surprised if portis didnt play this week
Clinton Portis suffered a mild right knee sprain and bruise in the first quarter of the Week 3 loss to the Giants.
It was previously reported that Portis was experiencing tendinits, an ailment that kept him out much of training camp. The injury is not believed to be the reason he was on the sideline as the Redskins drove for a potential tying score. The Redskins head trainer expects Portis on the field for Week 5.
