Hi guys,

I usually read sports section of washington post and try to read all the stuff about redskins. But every article that Mike Wise writes about them, seems to be negative. Do you guys think he just doesnt like the Redskins or what?

Thanks for your inputs

I literally haven't read the post since I left DC, around 5 years ago. What's a Mike Wise?

well....there is a lot to be negative about.

The thing is I left the DC area about that time as well, so I try to keep up on the area sports teams by reading the post. But reading this guy's articles is just depressing.

Mike Wise is an ass.

...and he's an equal opportunity ass. Last year, he wrote the same negative column about the Wizards, day after day after day. Literally, the same negative comments, every day.

Oh man, I just wrote him an email that he is a very negative person, and that he is a Philly homer. I totally agree, he never has anything good to say about the Washington area teams. I told him to go back to Philthy and get a job with all the violent fans

You know, this type of reply is upsetting. No there's NOT a lot to be negative about. There was a LOT to be negative about last season. I can't wait until the postseason when these posts finally transform into positivity.

This guy Mike Wise is the possibly the worst journalist to ever grace the Washington Post Sports page. In the first article I ever read by him he tried to guilt every person who has ever rooted for the Skins and anyone involved with the team into feeling like a heel because of the team name.

Here's this former NY Times sports guy (hardly a bastion of premiere sports reporting) who gets hired by one of the best, and all he's got is something like "your team's name is racist!" It wasn't a short article either.

He is horrible.

He hasn't had a single good thing to say about any DC sports.

He feels the need to write about the Nationals (occasionally) but admitted in WTWP that he has only attended something like three games this year.

For the record the reason he was hired by the Post is that when he was writing for the NY Times, he scooped our journalists on the final retirement announcement by Michael Jordan.

I saw him on CSN and he's a skinny punk looking to get beat.

He's gotta go!

I don't know......before the season started he seemed to write a bunch of fluff columns about individual players. Nothing that seemed overly negative to me.

He writes for the Post. Enough said!!!

The Skins need a PR guy that can help all these people organize their comments before they step in front of a camera.

That's the bottom line here. People who should be speaking (and probably are) during the day about what's going on, need a single unified message on almost any topic.

1st it was Portis had another flare up. Then it was a grade-1 sprain. Then it happened in the 1st quarter.....wait! The 2nd quarter.

If you don't have to talk about injuries until the midweek report. Then say "We'll update his status on the next report" and let the mediots fight over what's happening.

But, whoever is working with these coaches, players, and front office folks on their message......sucks. Flat out.

Our nickname is racist, though. I got kicked off of hailredskins.com for saying that. Thats why I like extremeskins.com cuz we can actually have differing opinions and discuss them.

He is not paid to be a cheerleader, he is paid to give his opinions on the sports teams. I thought his racist name column was ridiculous.

I look at it like this: I dont like his opinions, so I dont read his columns - just like if he doesnt like the name Redskins, he can cease using it, but it's not going to change my opinion of the team or name one bit.

Seriously, who cares what the Post has to say anymore?

I don't even look at that rag for my Skins news, it's all here.

He's just an ass. He thinks that he's being "objective", when in reality, he's just hating.

Of all the writers at WP, Mike Wise is the one I respect the most. I think he finds the silver lining even at our worse times.

I agree with the idea of he being free to write about topics he sees as important. And if someone wants to be critical of the Redskins, so-be-it.

It's just that he is not all that great a writer, and it seems that his opinions are based not on a genuine original thought or feeling, but a calculated effort to draw attention and anger as though that will signify success. It's all fine and good to be talked about, but his reasoning tends to be shallow and predictable, his writing not up to the standards of other folks at the Post, and his opinions forced and phony.

I read the Post front-to-back every day, but really I have given up reading Wise, as I know just what he is going to say, and what the obvious holes in his arguments will be.

This organization has proven to be a bit, um, dysfunctional over the years. Much of the criticism levied at the Skins organization is deserved.

I think he's pretty fair. He churns out plenty of puff pieces and when he's negative there seems to be a good reason why.

Well it's official fellow Washington Redskins fans ... I am a true defender of the burgundy and gold and the Redskins name ... @MikeWiseguy has blocked me on Twitter for calling him out on his poor journalistic skills. Please feel free to help me regain the missing follower by following me at @jumpingtheshark.

I agree he is a d---! But he does write a really good article now and then. The fact that folks have such a strong opinion of him is an indication that he's doing his job! If you can't stand him-don't read him!

No, as a reporter his job is to report facts, not make people mad. If that's his job, he is a shock jock, not a reporter or journalist. I really wish people knew there was a difference.

To be fair, he is not a reporter. He's a collumnist and their job is to provide more analysis than strict reporting. Nontheless, it is absolutely still part of his job to factually accurate.

I do think he has decided to go the shock jock route and it has gained him some fame/notoriety. He's actually fighting a losing battle though if the Redskins wind up becoming good. Tony K. made his national name by becoming the collumnist for the perenial playoff and Superbowl teams of the 80's with the Bandwagon collumns being the biggest catalyst.

If Wise was wise, he would leave himself room where he can be the go to guy to toast guys like RGIII and Alfred Morris if they become superstars and the guys every national show want to yammer about.

The bash the Redskins theme is not effective during good or great times.

Wow. Blast from the past! He’s terrible at the post and he was terrible on the radio. Understand the guy is just trying to make a living, but he’s not objective and therefore not very good at what he does. I ignore his opinions at all costs.

Mike Wise is just one of those people that views the Redskins in the political light anytime that he can. When the light is there for us it's never good.

I appreciate what you are saying. However, his articles on our name are over the top, and his reaction to people presenting facts to him are basically, "you're dumb if you disagree with me" and then blocking you on twitter point to shock jock, not "columnist". Sorry, if he didn't act like such a douche, I'd be with you, but his childish twitter responses equal shock jock idiot.

when wise was told of native americans who use 'redskins' as a mascot name, he said 'those people dont count'. heard it with my own ears. thats really all one needs to know about wise.
