View Full Version : Which would you rather have?

Blue Collar Skins

If you had a choice between having a team that was made up of blue-collar, hard-working, classy team that consistently has a winning records but falls short of going to the big game or a team filled with me-first, self-centered superstars jumbled together as a so-called team, but can manage to win the big game?

Me personally...I would rather have a team that I can be proud to rout for and hope they one day get into the big game.

What are you opinions? This is just a hypothetical question, not something that is about our current team.

Would I know for certain that they would never win the big game every year? Or could I be ignorant in my bliss of rooting for a real team?

You mean would we rather have the Redskins or the Cowboys? I'll take the Redskins.

Whichever one wins more games.

Redskins fans want a winning franchise. How we do it is irrelevant.

We used to be a team that was made up of blue-collar, hard-working, classy players that consistently had a winning record, AND won the big game.

God, I miss those days. :(

We'll get back there again, though. :) :logo:

Strange question...the team that wins it all, PERIOD, do you honestly think Gibbs would bring in malcontents?......people want a team that wins.

Winning is all that matters. That's why we watch our team. I don't care who is on the field if the skins would be a consistent winner.

It's not even close, in my opinion.

Give me the "blue-collar, hard-working, classy team that consistently has a winning records but falls short of going to the big game."

I like to be proud of my team and players on the team who are proud of being a member of the franchise. I would not be happy with a team full of players who are just here to get some "cheese" or whatever the term is for money, even if they won.

No reason the team can't be hard working, blue collar easy to root for guys and still win

However part of having a great team is having some athletic swagger. As long as these guys keep themselves clean off the field, and play within the rules, I don't care how much they talk on the field

correct me if im wrong, but riggins seemed like a total me guy and everybody loved him. drunk guy with mohawks and making scenes all the time and getting all the attention yet everybody loved him because he put up huge numbers. dexter manleys drug abuse didnt seem to be an issue when he was putting up 17 sacks and winning superbowls.

You should stop watching professional sports if that is your true opinion. EVERY person is playing for the money or the 'cheese' as you put it. I know what you're trying to say but it's just not a reality in the world of pro sports. :logo:

I agree.

Its not about being a "me" guy or whatever

"Me" guys are "me" guys because they don't think, they KNOW they are the best player on the field

That is what lifts you to greatness

Emmit Smith wanted the ball on every down because he knew he was the best. Tom Brady wants to make the key pass at the end of the game. Reggie White knows he will sack Drew Bledsoe 3 plays in a row in the Superbowl. Chad Johnson knows no DB will stop them

If you can walk the walk, I got no problem with "me" guys

Yeah, it deffinitely depends on if it was for sure that they would never make it to the big game. If that was the truth I'd rather have the bad attitude team as long as they won, but if I always had hope for the other team then that would be my choice.

Interestingly enough, I think your first descripiton is basically what the Pittsburgh Steelers were for most of Bill Cowher's tenure. Blue collar with a tough defense, a lot of running game, and maybe 20 passes per game if things were going right. How many 10+ seasons did Cowher put up over that time? There were a lot of them, and they finally won a Super Bowl. I'd be proud to have that kind of consistancy.

That being said, it's hard to choose the first option if they're never going to win even once. I'm not a big fan of the me-first culture and the exaggerated TD celebrations because they're all pre-planned now, there's nothing spontaneous about them anymore. I think the Joe Horn cellphone one was the worst. When you get to the point of hiding props before the game, it's gone too far. However, I want to see my team win the whole thing, and if it takes a few of those guys to get there, then so be it.

I don't care who is on the field if the skins would be a consistent winner.Hmm weird, I find this a little ironic coming from a guy who's screen name is named after Darrell Green as well as his sig. Didn't Darrell Green, take multiple salary cuts to not only stay with the Redskins but at other times to get players on our team? Wasn't Darrell Green known as Mr. Redskin because of how much he has meant to the team in an all-around sense?

Yes, winning is great, but I don't think it is everything.

So. lets see this in today's sorta standard:

Cheating Patriots and "Me! Me!" Cowpukes vs. Dignified Colts and Underrated Seattle.

Yeah, I'd rather cheer for the Colts and Seattle in a heartbeat. I hate primadona teams.

Are you kidding me? Glory Hog supreme Jerome Bettis...classy?! Bill Cowher...classy?! Dude, if you ever took the time to watch how dirty his Steeler team played you would not call them classy. The Steelers are classier now, in my opinion, then they ever were with Cowher. Cowher just has a big assed chin....makes people think he's a good coach cause he looked tough. The refs gave that bum a SB.

I would much rather have the better team with flashy players. I think it would be really fun to have a guy like Chad Johnson if we knew the team was going to win the Superbowl. His soundbytes and celebrations are fun and done to entertain. Since, afterall, this game is really about entertaining us when you think about it. It almost makes it no fun to win everything in a boring way, or with guys that don't have any fun.

Emmit Smith wanted the ball on every down because he knew Larry Allen was the best but he'd get the credit. Emmit is another f'ing limelight glory hog who got more then he deserved. He'll never be a 'greatest' in my book.

Gotta go for the blue-collar hard-working team. Plays hard, doesn't whine, less likely to be found dogfighting, sniffing blow, or firing guns in a strip club.

Agreed. I pick neither. I want a hard working team that has some swagger, yet remain humble enough to not act like asses. I want a team that others fear when they have to come in to play at FedEx. Not talking physical fear, but the fear that they know they have thier hands full today and nothing short of 100% effort will be needed to beat the Skins. I want a team that can win consistantly and pull off a championship or two. You can't win it every year, but 2 out of every 7 would be great.

The 80's Redskins had their Art Monks and Darrell Greens. The John Riggins and Dexter Manleys. They had their version of Vince Papale (Nick Giaquinto-trash man), fiery players (Theismann, Clark and Sanders), quiet leaders (Bostic, Butz, Mann, Warren and Jacoby). The Hogs had the confience they would whip your ass on every play. The Smurfs and Posse knew they'd get open against any defense.

That is the kinda team and players I want. Supreme confidence that every Sunday is their day. That the other team will have to cut off a leg to beat us. That the other team won't outplay, outhustle or out think us, but they made a play or two that was the difference. I want them to leave with us in the back of their minds that they don't want to play us again if they don't have to.

blue-collar teams tend to stick together longer than a bunch of prima-donnas, for salary cap and ego reasons.

I go with the first option.
