I'm interested in taking a flight lesson in a few days when I fly out to colorado for a conference. Has anyone taken a basic flight lesson before? Can you tell me about your experience??

You do not talk about flight class.

Just make sure you don't tell the instructor that you're not concerned with landing the plane.

Your first class probably will involve a quick ~30 minute flight, to expose you to the general feel of flying.
You'll get a headset and a quick general briefing, walk around the plane for pre-flight inspection, hop in, get a cockpit briefing, fire up the plane (radio, engine, etc.), taxi out, watch the instructor perform the take off, get the controls to do some of the flying up there, watch the instructor perform the landing, taxi in, and then chat about continuing your instruction once your feet are on the ground again. You might get to take off or land, under his/her very watchful eye.
Expect more buttons, levers, and knobs than you know what to do with. Fortunately, you won't have to worry about most of them on your first day. With additional classes it will all start to make sense. But if your first impression is like mine was, you'll wonder why a cockpit instrument panel has to have so many friggin' things on it!
