View Full Version : Cardinals game has now become a must win.

Well, with New England in two weeks, and the loss today against the Packers, it changes the dynamics of the Cardinals game.
At 4-1, a loss to the Cardinals would be bad, but not devastating, but at 3-2, and New England coming to town, I do not want to be 3-3 going into that game with a good chance at falling under .500. Our division is too good this year to be under .500 and still expect to make the playoffs.

Every game should be treated as a must win.
I was just about to write the exact same thing. When we're dealing with a 16 game season, no one win is a given. Therefore, each game should be played like it's a playoff game, IMO.

Totally agree.
People are going to point to 2005 (we were 3-2 at this time) but in 05 we had all the tiebreakers in our favor. We were 3-0 in the NFC and 1-0 in the East. We finished 10-2 in the NFC and 5-1 in the East.
Right now we're 1-1 in the East and 2-2 in the Conference.
We've got to really start stringing some wins together otherwise we're going to be on the shortend of the stick when it comes to the tiebreaks.

Well we can only hope, that the Redskins treat the Cardinals the way they treated the 49ers in 2005. Coming off two road losses that could have been wins, they came home to face the 49ers and took out all their aggression on them...52-17. Lets hope!!!

We definitely need the next game, considering the next game after that will be AT New England.

This is good news...
Kurt Warner headed to the locker room in the first quarter Sunday with a strained left elbow. Recently signed Tim Rattay came into the game.
Warner underwent X-rays in the locker room and didn't look likely to return to the game when he ultimately took a seat on the sideline. The injury was to his non-throwing arm, so it shouldn't be a long-term issue, but it appears Rattay will finish out the contest.

This is as big a must win as is possible.
3-4 after NE or 4-3 after NE is huge. Basically the difference between playoffs and no playoffs.

What year isn't a must win for us? We are always at this point in the season. We've lost to a bad team (giants) a good team that did ZERO to win (packers) so let's see what we do against the cardinals at home. This team is not good enough to not have every game be a must win. We are, yet again, a middle of the pack team.

We ARE NOT going to the playoffs playing the way we are.
We need to be able to score more than 28 points per game against good opponents consistently.

Its not must-wins. We could lose 3 in a row and still be 11-5.

The bears couldn't score 28+ pts per game. Stop talking out of your ass.

The Packers game wasn't a must win. The Packers was a measuring stick game. It also showed which team out of the two was more ready to make a playoff push.

Why is every game all of a sudden a must win now?
We are 3-2. I think we'll win next weekend, putting us at 4-2 regardless of whether or not it's a must win.

Our offense says that each week they step on the field and fail to score 4 touchdowns. We would need at least that to defeat NE. They will make today's pathetic joke look like a victory when they are done with us.

Tim Rattay played most of the game for the Cards, Warner did something to his elbow. He threw 3 picks and also fumbled twice.

Our defense is only giving up about 12 points per game. NE is beatable and GW can scheme them to less than 20 points. We must have a good offensive game and get production from our "U" boys!

I am not worrying about Warner. Our D is the best in the NFC right now by miles. We will stop them cold. Hell look what the Panthers did today with a 44 year old QB at the helm. What worries me is our OL and our WRs dropping balls.

There is no doubt about the Cardinals game being a must win, anyone who argues is just not with it. You lose to the Cardinals at home nonetheless then you are 3-3 and may be looking at coming back to fedex the next time at 3-5 with the patriots and jets. Say what you want about the Jets sucking but how crappy did the packers just play and beat us???

um...what:doh: Is saying this a bannable offense?
We have one of the best defenses in the league right now. If they maintain their current course and the offense works out a few bugs by the time we play them, it will be a good game. Just remember, any given Sunday. Not saying it will not be tough, but c'mon, don't count us out before we even take the field.

Boldin has said he is at about 80% for this week's game and he was listed as doubtful. Let's hope he can take one more week off.
Warner also had a nasty elbow sprain. Let's hope he takes a week off.
We definitely need Wade and Rabach back. Darnell Dockett is a monster who has 6 sacks this season and Pucillo will get raped by him. This game comes down to the health of our OLine. If Campbell has time to pass, we will win. If not, we will lose.

Cardinals is defnitely a must win, we need to win all out of conference home games for sure and should hold serve there the rest of the year. This is a disappointing 3-2 so far given that going into the season, Campbell and the Defense were the biggest question marks. Campbell has been playing very well and is improving each week and the defense has been awesome - it is just too bad that portis and moss have done more harm than good so far this year or we would be undefeated. I love our defense now and they are keeping us in every game, we need the offensive playmakers to step it up and be positive playmakers. i am hoping CP and Moss both hit their stride but it troubles me that they both 'benched' themselves in key games, the true champions in the league go out and make up for bad plays by staying with it and making bigger plays, they don't sit on the sidelines. lets hope cp and moss step up their games and lead us to a nice win streak.

We should beat the Cards at home, putting us at 4-2 going to NE.
We are a trap game for NE; home game against an inconsistent NFC team, the week before the AFC Championship Preview game vs the Colts. We have a physical, punishing defense. IF our offense shows up and has an outstanding game, then we can absolutely beat the Pats.

Cowboys fan here, but don't discredit what I have to say on the subject. The Patriots are good, but honestly, you guys match up well with them on defense. Your pass defense, I believe, can actually slow them down and I don't think they can run the ball on you either.
They WILL score some though, and that's where the question comes in. Can you guys score enough on THEIR defense for it to even matter?
Anyways, tough loss today for you guys and another for us. No one lost any ground. Looking forward to our matchups this year.

If we are 4-3 after NE, we have two winable games on the road against the NY Jets and at home against the Eagles
Being 6-3 would be a BIG help going into the next two road games against the Cowboys and the Buccaneers

For team morale and momentum, it is an absolute must win. After starting out the season looking pretty good, we've lost 2 of the last three because of poor halftime adjustments and shooting ourselves in the foot. We should be 5-0. No team we have played has actually out-played us. Hopefully our offense(I'm looking at you, Santana) gets their **** together.

I don't see how they could. You guys match up with them MUCH better than we do. We have some serious 3rd down / secondary issues to tend to. I'm hoping Anthony Henry helps, but I'm not sure. Tom Brady is just flawless and their 3rd and 4th wideouts are just better than most in the league.

Me too. Our defense will continue to keep us in games all season, even against teams like the Pats. But against teams with a decent defense, those O-line injuries are going to kill us. Just take a look at the pressure on Campbell today before the injuries vs. after.
I mean for God's sake, we were putting a D-LINEMAN in to play for us. There is no way we can match up in the trenches against ANY team this year if we don't get some of those dirtbags back.

What happens if you lose a must-win game in Week 7? Do you just play out the string?
Unless you are facing elimination from the playoffs, it's silly to talk about must win games. Fans panic way too much based on one game.
(Seriously, when did I become the voice of reason?)
Ladies and gentlemen...boys and girls...I have an announcement for you.
The NFC is horrifyingly awful. Do not be surprised if 8-8 gets you into the playoffs this year. So...there is no reason to get too excited about any loss at this point.

The 2007 Redskins is turning into a Jeckle and Hyde show. We tend to dominate the games in the first half and then for a couple of them espcecially yesterday we can't even tie our shoes in the second half.
The sad thing is this can be a very, very, good team. The problem is we are beating ourselves up when we should be putting teams away. With better execution and coaching this team is 5-0 right now.
We have not proved we can put away a good team yet but at least we have been able to put away the bad teams. This game next week I hate to say could be the season. What I mean is the way our schedule goes the rest of the way if we play like we did yesterday it is going to be ugly and not many more easy games. If we can pull 4 quarters together of good play on each side of the ball then there is nothing stopping this team.
We can not use injuries as an excuse. NE lost some of their lineman yesteday yet still carried on like they didn't miss anything. We need to get to that point to not freak when we lose some of our best players.
Untill we can solve these issues we will be home in January.

I think there is a difference between losing an offensive lineman and playing with you 2nd center, 2 right guard, and 3rd right tackle. We can't/don't run to the right. We have to keep people in to help with pass protection. I think we are going to have a rough go of it until we can get our second line back together.

It's pretty simple; The Skins needs to take care of business at home against the Cardinals. It is NOT going to be easy, it is NOT going to be pretty but I see them pulling out a win. That said, we travel to NE to play the best team in the League this year. I doubt the NE coaching staff will look past the Skins so it's going to be a tough game. However, the Skins will be playing scared because they know NE will pound them for ANY mistake they make. I think that will bring out a good team and I expect to see no penalties and no fumbles that game. We have a shot of being either 4-3 or 5-2. I'm going with a two game winning streak starting next week.
5-2.

I agree. To say this is a must win game is ludicrous at this point in the season. Even if we lose (which we won't) we still may be only 2 games out of first place in our division after week 7. To many people throw around the "must win games"
cliche; wait till the last couple weeks of the season when we are in playoff contention.
