As redskins fans, I believe that we endure the most intense emotional swings of any other team in the league. I know that a lot of you out there have their weeks ruined because of another unbearable loss by the skins. Sometimes I actually get physically sick. Countless Mondays I wake up with a sense of dread that cannot be put into words because the skins let another easily winnable game slip away. Which brings me to my first point...How many teams in the last few seasons have actually come out and beat us? I count very few, most notably the game against the Giants where they beat us 36-0. Most of our other losses were because of various breakdowns by us. If only we could fix those we could be consistenly winning.
I think most of us diehards know what we are capable of when we are clicking on all cylinders. Jason Campbell has shown what he can do time and again. Every game he continues to grow...his poise, decision making, and completion percentage are increasing with every game. Say what you want, this team is heading in the right direction. After years of uncertainty at the qb position, we have our guy. So, i wish to tell the coaching staff: LET JASON PLAY! Stop calling these conservative, dreadfully boring plays and let Jason do what he does best: throw the damn ball down the field. We have one of the most highly paid WR corps in the league and in my opinion one of the top three receiving tight ends in Cooley. We have the personnel and the guy to get the ball to them. LET HIM. How many games do we have to lose, how many double digit leads do we have to blow before the coaches learn that you have to get a killer instinct to win in this league?
This brings me to the Pats game this weekend. I realize alot of you out there think we dont stand a chance. I KNOW WE CAN WIN THIS GAME. We will be fielding the best defense the Pats have seen all year. Don't forget, Gregg Williams coached the Bills and played Bilichick twice a year. He knows how to gameplan against Brady and the Pats. THEY WILL NOT PUT UP 30 POINTS ON US. And the skins have the tendency to play quality teams extremely close. They will not back down to the patriots. Let the media build them up all week, we dont care. We are going to go in there and play our asses off. We need to go in there and let Jason take off throwing the ball down the field; we need to come out swinging and not let off for a milisecond. On D we need to swarm to the ball and HIT HIT HIT HIT the receivers until they dont want the ball thrown their way anymore. We need to get pressure on Brady. He hasnt been hit all year; we hit him, he will be off his game. Get to him, we can slow down that passing game. We need to dictate the intensity of this game with our punishing physicality and CREATIVE, EFFICIENT offense. The key to this game on the offensive side will be Chris Cooley. There is not a linebacker in the league that can shut Cooley down. Get him the damn ball. We need our O-line, backups or starters, to play with inspiration and heart. Get mad, realize that nobody in the league ever takes us seriously and put that anger into the Patriots.
Basically we need to play like we know they can play. We all know what we can do. We need to play with heart and instensity for the whole 60 minutes. We are the biggest underdogs for a Joe Gibbs team. But that will not stop us. We will step up, we will attack, we will dominate physically because that is what we do. To the fans, we need to be there for this team, not just this weekend but in the future too. I was at the cards game and the fan support was pathetic. Over 6000 empty seats. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT? this is our team and they need us. We are skins fans, we dont back down and we dont stop supporting our team no matter what happens. So lets go up to foxborro and kill someone.

Lawrence Taylor once said "Let's go out there and play like a bunch of crazed dogs!"
We are playing like a bunch of scared cats on offense. I agree with you that we need to start throwing the deep ball more. That is Campbell's best attribute.

sure we have a loss to gain by losing, but I would love our team to take the approach that they have nothing to lose this Sunday. That means relaxing, pulling out all the stops, throwing caution to the wind and look at the final result when the smoke clears. It just may result in a win. For this 60 minutes don't play like you're in a regular season game. Play like you're in he Super Bowl. Take risks no matter how crazy some may look and not play scared or cautious. Remember Dallas against us in 1991. We were 11-0 and hammering everyone. Jimmy Johnson took some crazy gambles in that game against us and it paid off for them.

Seems that some folks just don't get it. You need time to throw the deep ball, and the line hasn't been able to give that time to Jason in the last game, and part of the green bay game.
The entire dynamic of the offense is changed by injuries to the line.

Off the top of my head, there was only one pass attempt where the pass itself went more than 20 yards (the one to Thrash).

and guys were covered.
i saw 3 maybe for 4 plays where he had good time. and every time there was great coverage.
the one time he had 2 guys open he got sacked hard.
alot of other times guys came right up the gut and he had no time and had to dump it off.
but the plays were called. including one inside 3 minutes in the 4th quarter thrash almost caught but caused the clock to stop and gave the cardinals maybe 30 more seconds at the end of the game.
i should point out i was at the game so i was able to see the whole field. cards did a hell of a job in coverage as well.

the did what we do and played a zone d and forced us short. i could tell early on it was going to be ahrd to go down field casue you need time to beat a zone and jason did not have enough.
i saw a few more but overall the cards played good d and kept constant pressure on campbell.

POSITIVE MESSAGE HERE- We all know that our BELOVED Skins have the ability to put at least 4 TDs on the scoreboard this coming Sunday IF the O-line can holdup, and IF the play-calling has some real imagination. If the D can stay solid as well, the Skins really do have a chance....Oh yeah, I am looking forward to this game....

Sorry for this is going to be negative. Somewhat. Simply put: Pats vs. Redskins.... Pats win. Redskins lose this one. Brady is hot. The Pats are a superbowl caliber team and the Redskins are not. I am a Redskins fan thru and thru. I am also a realist. I am not saying the 'skins can't win but we might have a better chance at playing the lottery. The odds are like a billion to one. We have coaching problems where we haven't found our identity yet.We are fighting key injuries in players, but yet our players are fighting their hearts out. I love it.
I agree the coaches need to let the reins loosen. But whoever says we need to pass more does not know this team very well. We ARE a running team yet I don't believe any running back has had a 100yd game yet almost half way thru the season. I may be wrong about that but we are a running team and noone has really emerged yet this season. I still believe the 'skins can win by running the ball down the throats of the opposing team.
I will still root for the skins this weekend but I won't be expecting miracles. Lets just get thru this week pick up some pointers, and really hit the opposing team next week! Go Redskins 4 lyfe!!!!!:logo:

I like our chances against the Patriots. They're a great team, but they can be beat. We can't beat ourselves by fumbling and giving them the game. If they win, then we have to make them earn it. Brady is not Joe Montana. He's a great one and is cool in the pocket, but once rattled, he'll be like any other QB.

no, we DO need to pass more...we may be a running team but our running game sucks right now...are you saying were gonna win by getting two yards a carry? i dont think so...the O-line is having an extremely hard time opening holes, and when the rare hole gets opened, portis doesnt make it through...im not saying dont run at all but let jason throw the ball

Pete that just about sums it up best. Nothing else matters. They are one decimated Offense. What this really shows here in Washington is that the O Line is as much or if not the MOST IMPORTANT part of the offense not the headline hording Wide Recievers, not the Star Running backs and not even the Superstar Quaterbacks.... well maybe the QB's might be the most important. ;) But god do we miss Thomas, Jansen, and Rabach. :(

Patriots? Who are the Patriots?
What's all this talk about the Patriots?
The Patriots are 1 and 6 all-time against the Redskins.
The last time the Patriots beat anything red was back when Cornwalis was still alive. I agree, George Washington versus the redcoats was no contest.
But the New England Patriots?
Who have they played? The Cowboys? We beat the Cowboys in less than a minute with Mark Brunell.
The only thing they've beaten is the NFL committee of fair play.
Remember, we are playing in their house. Under their cameras, using their technology. No wonder we are double-digit dogs.
But I'll still take my skins...
I'll take Taylor, Landry, Springs, and Rogers against Moss, Welker, Stallworth, and Brady 5 times a week and twice on Sundays.
I'll take a 4-2 team that nobody respects.
I'll take a hurting offense (with Rabach back) eager to prove their harshest critics, the fans, wrong.
I'll take the Skins. If the Skins offense needs anything, they need a fire lit under them. The Patriots are the perfect team to get their attention! The Patriots can score and the Skins need an offense that can and should keep up. Running out the clock will not be an option.
It's all on how Jason Campbell plays, the skins go the way 17 goes.
Ashes to ashes...
Come Sunday, "Hail to the Redskins" will be sung again.
Ironic, that the Patriots play the the original "Boston Redskins".
Patriots? Who are the Patriots?
They will be the 5 in "5 and 2".
Why? These Skins are due!
We are 4 and 2 WITHOUT an offensive line! The Patriots should be so lucky.
The Skins are playing them with one hand tied behind the back. Unfortunatly, the other hand is a lethal weapon.
Ask Detroit, what happened the last time there was talk of a high-powered offense overwhelming the Skins.

Agreed. And maybe the pass opens things up so we can run enough to control some clock. Add in a little West Coast with short dumps to Cooley or Betts and who knows?
Nobody really expects us to win this one anyway. Why don't we open it up and go for it, take some chances? I like the shotgun idea; maybe it gives Jason some more time to get it downfield.
I'm no expert. But it's going to take more than 3-and-out time after time to have any chance in this ballgame.

Let me just say last year we faced a team on a similar roll as the Pats in arguably a tougher place to play (Hooserdome). The Colts eventually stormed to a Super Bowl. While we did fall apart in the third quarter we gave the Colts all the could handle for much of the game.
Last year we had Lamar Marshall.
This year it's London Fletcher.
Last - safety Mike Rumph (OMG)
This - Laron Landry
Last - Kenny Wright
This - Shawn Springs (healthy) and Fred Smoot
We have Andre Carter finally playing at a high level where this time last year he was invisible. We have young bucks Wilson, Montgomery, Golston and Evans making significant contributions.
And most importantly last year at QB was Mark Brunell. This year it's Jason Campbell.
Granted we have ol problems (don't we always?) but can anyone honestly say we're not a better team this year?
We CAN win this week and I frankly like our odds. The key is our defense roughing up Brady and their receivers and our offense at least being able to move the ball enough to give our D a breather. This is more than doable.
Maybe it's just me but I never attempt anything in life thinking I'm going to fail and I never watch a Redskins game thinking we're going to lose.

I think what I've seen of our beat up line is that they are better pass blocking for JC than trying to open up hole for Portis. not knocking them but Jc is also doing well avoiding the sack..... he does have the skills, let him open it up and play, HTTR

Watching espn makes me realize how important this game is...ALL i hear is pats, and colts...Its almost like the rest of the 30 teams in the league are playing for 3rd place! Its ridiculous...
This is our opportunity, better yet, this is the PLAYERS opportunity to step up and EARN respect. Yes, EARN respect. From portis to daniels to campbell to sellers, we hear about the respect that they want so bad and have fought and worked so hard to earn and it CAN all be a reality in less than a week. i cant WAIT!!!
I feel that we have things in our favor vs the pats: 1.) Our secondary is by FAR the best secondary they have seen all year 2.) They play the colts the week after us. They very well could be looking forward to that game (not likely with a Bill B coached team, but possible 3.) COACHING. Yea, i said it. Bill B is great, however, as a whole i feel that our staff more experience and will put together the game plan with the best opportunity for success!
Anyway, can you tell i'm a little excited...

I'm looking forward to this game. I think the Patriots are a great team, having won three Super Bowls in six seasons. They are a very disciplined, and battle hardened team. This game will be the biggest we've played all year. Forget about the privious 6 games. This is THE game for us. I'm tired of the Washington Redskins being treated like the Rodney Dangerfield of the NFL. After we beat the Patriots, we will get that respect from everyone else.

From this article http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/football/cowboys/stories/101107dnspocowlede.36e370d.html :
Jan 14th, 2007 Phillip Rivers 14-32 230 yards 0 TD 1 Int 55.5 Rating LOSS
Oct 31st, 2004 Ben Roethlisberger 18-24 296 yards 2 TD 0 Int 126.4 Rating WIN
Dec 14th, 2003 Byron Leftwich 21-40 288 yards 1 TD 2 Int 63.3 Rating LOSS
Dec 22nd, 2002 Chad Pennington 23-33 285 yards 3 TD 0 Int 126.5 Rating WIN
Oct 13th, 2002 Brett Favre 17-27 147 yards 3 TD 0 Int 114.3 Rating WIN
Oct 8th, 2000 Peyton Manning 31-54 334 yards 1 TD 3 Int 58.7 Rating LOSS
and just for comparison purposes for this year:
Oct 14th, 2007 Tony Romo 18-29 199 yards 2 TD 1 Int 91.0 Rating LOSS
So his ability to confuse new QBs is a bit overrated.

This is an away game for us, as much as i hope we do win I do not expect us to, I do expect us to win all our home games and as many away games as we are expected to, but I dont expect us to beat the (arguably) best team in the comp, as long as we give a good account of ourselves

The entire dynamic of the offense is changed by injuries to the line.
I understand your point and agree with it to a point; however there are things that can be done to help Jason and give him more time.
1) Roll him out of the pocket. Yes, I know rolling him out to the left is not ideal for a right handed QB, but it will buy him time.
2) Quit with all the fancy motions and setting up twice before the snap. This will give Jason extra time to read the defense.
3) Use our weapons better: What ever happened to our pattened quick screen to Moss? I saw it the other day and thought it was a good idea. Why not use Cooley, Sellers, etc on more backside screens? We have a 700 page play book and a supposedly "genius" offensive coaching staff. You'd have to be kidding me that they find a way to get guys open.
4) I agree we don't have a lot time or opportunity for the "deep-ball", but we don't have to have it. Other teams are having great success using 12 to 25 yard routes, why can't we? We don't have to chuck it down the field to open things up, just keep the DBs backed off some.

I can't believe I agree with you, but yeah. The Cards were playing alot of Cover 2. For the life of me, I cannot understand why our coaching staff can't figure out how to beat the cover 2. Brunell said it himself, that he doesn't really know how to attack the cover 2. We needed to do some designed rollouts, like when Mark Ryoien was QB and had no mobility. Giibbs gave him time to throw the deep ones with those plays. JC would be even more effective with his ability to tuck it and run if nothinig is open.
