Did anyone watch Around the Horn yesterday? It was during buy or sell and they said that if the playoffs started today, the Lions would make the playoffs... and then reali asked the panel if they were a legit playoff team.

I was then thinking to myself, we beat the Lions, therefore we have the tiebreaker over them, so we would be the 6th team in; if the playoffs started today, not the Lions...
I was pretty confident that I was right, but i gave them the benefit of the doubt because they are ESPN.
So I looked over the standings again and realized that Around the Horn was wrong, and they must of just made a mistake...
But I was then listening to Mike and Mike this morning and they gave the same exact scenario! I was shocked that ESPN could be so off base twice!
Yeah so this is kind of a pointless thread, but I just wanted to get it off my chest...
I just couldn't believe that ESPN could get the tiebreakers wrong...
Yeah and I dont really care, I think the only reason I noticed they were wrong was because it had to do with the Redskins...But it made me wonder if ESPN makes petty mistakes like this more often than not...

ESPN lives and dies by who did what lately. The Lions beat the Bucs so to them they are the latest and greatest thing out there. We struggled last week (but won) so we get put on the back burner. ESPN lives and dies by who's hot, those teams get full attention.

Remember when the Skins beat the Lions??? Everyone was on our nuts. Even after we beat the Eagles on MNF...the espn/media world was captivated LOL.

If, god forbid, we are to beat the Patriots....there will be more espn tv crews at Redskins park than at the whitehouse during a sex scandal. The media will be penciling us in in the NFC Champ game...no doubt.

Example...look at the EAGLES. They lose games and u dont hear anything on them/about them....but if they muster ONE win everyone says McNabb is back and they are on track for the division title and are reborn..yadayadayada. I think the Eagles are the biggest media bandwagon team in the NFL and maybe all of sports.

Redskins lose the tiebreaker: their wins count for half and their losses count double. Everyone knows this.

This is another case of ESPN, CNNSI, CBS, etc. not having a lick of accountability, research, or even simple fact checking. They way whatever they want, whether it's true or not, without any kind of repercussion...

What's the point if listening/reading these jackasses if they make stuff up?

At the end of the season, I hope a tie-breaker comes down to the lions, and not Green Bay.

Yeah , they actually got some attractive personalities on there. Ever see Giada? :applause:

ESPN = MTV = VH1 is a better equality.

is the playoff tiebreaker their records against their own division?
Detroit 2-0
Washington 1-1

just curious, I hope its not as Detroit is 0-2 against the NFCE.

First tie-breaker is head-to-head. We won. We would be the #6 if the playoffs started today.

ESPN wrong?? Who'd have thunk it?

That's the problem with ESPN...until they get some competition, they don't have to be right about anything because there are no consequences. Who are they going to lose viewers to?

the problem comes from the lions are technicaly 6th in the nfc. and espn and other sportswriters fail to see that yes worse teams are actually holding division spots and the lions are not leading their division.

so they hastily saw lions at 6th. the truth is the lions would be left out cause we hold the final wc spot. we are also the 4th team per standings in the nfc currently.

poor reporting and ignorant but the lions are still 6th in the nfc and they should be proud after the last 6-7 years. but yes some reporters made stupid statements with out double checking their facts.

and they were not saying the lions would be in over the skins. they forgot that seatle would take the 4th spot and the lions would be a high ranked team at home. the problem we have with only 2 wc spots and why we should expand the playoffs. just wait till some 13-3 team fails to make the playoffs and a 7-9 team gets in like back in the 80's and changes will be made.. there should be enough wild cards to have 1 from every division as well as 1 divisional winner. the system, we have now leaves gaps where a bad division could take a spot and 3 good divisions have 1 good team left out.

in this case the lions would be left out technically.

oh how they have fallen...

Speaking of fallen, if the season ended today the Eagles (WITH McNabb) would be the only NFCE team not in the playoffs.

I look forward to us finishing them off in a few weeks.

I wasn't awake so I didn't hear this, and I refuse to watch Around the Horn anymore so I couldn't have heard that, but why isn't anyone complaining?

It is easy to complain to Mike and Mike. Just email mikeandmike@espnradio.com. Call them gutless punks if they don't correct their mistake while you are at it.

Tony Reali I think lives and works in DC, so it should be rather easy to meet him outside of their studio somewhere in D.C. and give him a good thrashing. I can't believe some of you aren't even thinking of this. Come on, where is your team spirit?

You're all nitpicking. NOBODY CARES about Around the Horn, and NOBODY CARES about seeding/playoff tiebreakers in October.

Did they say the Lions are 6 and the skins were out? Or did they just say the Lions were 6 and you assumed that ment they were saying the skins were out?

Because they are not wrong. the Lions WOULD be in the playoffs today at #6.
Skins would be #5, Giants #4, and then the Divison leaders.

Number #7 is Tampa with a 4-3 record.

What excatly were they wrong about?

Bottom line - If the playoffs started today.... we would all be upset they canceled more then half the season.

There are 4 divisions now, not 3. They had the Lions at 6 and the Giants of course would be at 5. Seattle, Carolina, Green Bay and Dallas would be 4 through 1. Of course, we all know that is wrong.
