View Full Version : What if the Skins Lay a Spanking on the Pats? (Merged Ponderously)

I think everyone would agree the coverage for this game has taken on an almost comical air in the past week. Common wisdom is, football fans desperately want the Pats and Indy to be undefeated for the following weekend and for New England to lay a rout on the Skins.

It's contrary to the zeitgeist on the Patriots, but I get the feeling that the Skins are being SET UP in the media as spoilers that are being told they have no chance to win with the hopes that they will spoil Tom Brady's big party.

Stranger things have happened in sports when the coverage gets this ridiculous. I don't know what the chances are, but every day I get the increasing feeling that the Skins are being channeled with freakish energy to pull off an upset.

I know it sounds crazy, but how about them apples?

That would be nice, but if by some chance we would happen to make it to the superbowl, and have to play them again it could very well be a turn of the tables if we spank them in their house this weekend.

Now that being said, I would rather hope that we would just squeek out another hard fought win without having to show them too much on offense, but hopefully improving enough on offense to sustain drives and just rely on our defense. Kinda like the eagles game, not overly impressive but we did just enough.

Here's to our offense doing just enough and our defense playing lights out, oh an INJURY free game!! LETS GO SKINS, WE CAN DO THIS!!!

If we win, we start preparing for the Jets on 11/4. If we lose, we start preparing for the Jets on 11/4. We have 10 more games on the schedule. It'd feel awesome though, haha.

Regardless of the game against the Colts, I think this is one game where a lot of the country might actually be pulling for us. First off, a lot of people are sick of the Patriots. Secondly, there's still the whole cheating thing. If there's one team that people don't want to see go undefeated, it's probably New England.

I actually dreamed this last night. I dreamt that I saw this thread already, but it had been bumped after the game. Every page had posts like "**** me, we won."

The most ironic thing about it was, there was no negativity anywhere, so I knew I was dreaming.

It would take a LOT of points by the Redskins defense to win. The only thing I see playing into that is Brady has gotten a little spoiled throwing to Randy Moss, he's enjoyed the luxury of being able to throw it up for grabs & Randy Moss has delivered/bullying the ball away from defenders. I don't think he will be able to do that against Sean Taylor. And if Sean Taylor can smell blood on the battlefield he should smell it big time in this game. If Taylor were to have a career game it would be legendary/a game for the ages that would never be forgotten and probably cement an All-Pro appearance by the season's halfway mark. I've been harder on Taylor than most because he's been exonerated for being a pain in ass at times while being most overhyped as all-probowl caliber player which he's not rightfully been despite the hype until this season - but if Taylor comes up big in this game, that would be it, I would be won over and in the tank for him. Come on Sean, do it.

If the Redskins do beat the Patriots it would never be lived down. The town would go nuts. 5-2 with win over probably the greatest goliath the nfl has seen in years.

Actually, Skins win over the Pats, they will probably lose to the Jets. They've given us no reason to think otherwise.

If we win over the Patriots, the media everywhere will still give us no credit. They'll say the Pats had an off day, and that player X was not playing up to their full potential because they had a hangnail...

everybody will use the good old "they were looking ahead to the Colts" excuse, but i could care less about that, just give me a victory.

The media still won't pay us any attention if we beat the Patriots. Especially if we knock out one of their good players.

They'll focus on how the Patriots lost the game rather than acknowledge that the Redskins won the game. It was like that for the Eagles game.

It's going to take a Super Bowl or 4 more to help the Redskin legacy

I know 98% of the U.S. thinks this game belongs to the Patriots, but the way I see the defense acting in the interviews, seems evil...I hope they come out on the field, and play viciously.

I heard that in the defense's voices during radio interviews as well. There was a tone there that did not sound like bode's well if you got a pat's jersey on. Lets see if we can get our offensive guys sounding the same way, we win.

There's no doubt about that. I had guys sitting behing me at the Cards game chanting "Superbowl, Superbowl, Superbowl!" Granted, they were three sheets to the wind, but it sure doesn't take much to get a Redskins fan excited.

You might want to rethink that. Buster wasn't that good. That win was the only shining moment in his career. He laid down for Holyfield, ate himself into a diabetic coma, and faded into obscurity. Do you really want us to be THAT guy? HUH??

If we beat the Patriots, the front runner leeches will say that the Patriots had a bad game or that they were due for a lose.

We sure would be happy around here. A win for us could potentially open the doors for us down the stretch.

Considering the level of football play it will take to beat the Pats I would hope that the team continues to play with the same intensity and consistency throughout the rest of the year. That would most likely give us a few more wins and a playoff spot.

My fear would be turning around and then losing to the Jets the following week and proving the teams 3+ years of total inconsistency is a pattern here to stay.

We'll actually get respect, because we would have earned it. Some will make excuses, but I find it hard to believe that the media is so anti - Skins as to make excuses across the board.

That being said, I could care less if we're respected or not this season. Let's just win and make the playoffs.

you mean the third most arrogant - philly is always number one in arrogance / false pride / most chokes / empty trophy cases.

I Remember in the 90s the Redskins were 16+ point underdogs to the Cowboys in their Superbowl days. A guy at work was a Cowboys fan and we bet a carton of imported cigarettes on the spread. The Redskins won outright.

It can happen. Look it up. That would be a good thread this week (remembering 16 point underdogs who have won).

I could care less what anyone would think. If the Pats had a bad game, so be it. I'll take it. If they play without certain players. So be it. I'll take it. If they are looking ahead to the Colts, so be it. That's their problem. I'll take it.
