Evangelist Pat Robertson has prostate cancer

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia (CNN) --Televangelist Pat Robertson said Thursday that he has prostate cancer and will undergo surgery next week to remove his prostate gland.

Robertson, 72, made the announcement on his "700 Club" television program.

Doctors said the cancer does not appear to have moved beyond the prostate, he said, and they expect him to be back on a full schedule by the beginning of March.

Robertson's announcement came a day after John Kerry, presidential candidate and senator from Massachusetts, had surgery at Johns Hopkins hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, to remove a cancerous prostate. (Full story)

Robertson is the founder of the Christian Coalition and Christian Broadcasting Network.

I guess after years of telling people why they are wrong and/or evil in one way or another. "God" decided to give him a warning shot. I'm not making light of this, just pointing out the irony

He's gettin his in the END......now and literally....

I guess you didn't read my "I'm not making light of this" comment at the bottom.

Did you call me godless?

That doesn't make sense. How is that ironic? Millions of people have cancer. Of every belief.

Don't worry about Navy Dave. He's really a liberal posing as a right wing hack. :) (I bet that hurt worse than name calling?)

I somewhat see the point you are making, but it isn't quite ironic. What would be ironic is if it was an STD or liver disease. Some result of "bad behavior." I'm not attacking you or provoking you, but cancer is never ironic.

Why do you hate the "Godless"? What's wrong with agnostics/atheists? Aren't they entitled to their own beliefs and thought processes so long as they don't "shove it in your mouth" as well? Hate is a strong word.

MAybe I am in a bad mood.......

I don't mean to offend anyone's views and I definatly don't mean to offend anyone that has cancer or family that has or has had it.
I don't think Pat Robertson is a christian, that's all. I'm not glad he has cancer, but I don't like him.

Hey, I thought I was the only godless heathen around here. Well, since I'm not a liberal, I suppose you can just call me godless...

my point is that this guy has spent a lifetime telling people that bad things are happening to them because they are bad people. Meanwhile, he acts all high and mighty. Gets on t.v. and tells people that "God told me to say this and God told me to say that!"

I find it that somebody is tells people to send him money because "look! I'm doing it right and God is taking care of me." now is sick.

How many people do you think with Cancer donated money because they believed they had the illness because they were bad in some way? More than you think.

I unbderstood your point.
I was never a fan of his. I don't wish him any harm (woulda been better if it was Swaggart or Fallwell {horrible joke})
It is amazing how people respond to televangelists. What is that guys name who looks Indian? (not nat. Amer.) He is on the stations down here in the bible belt ALL THE F*CKING TIME!!!!!!!!
And then there is that b*tch with the fake huge blond hair. Has had a facelift 20x has these huge lips and rediculous makeup and is always crying.
Someone should shoot her...........

I can't say that I'm familiar with Robertson's doctrine, but if he's attributing all earthly afflictions to sin, then he's a boob. I've just never heard that about him is all, and I have to doubt that that's what he believes, which means that there's no real irony here.

I always thought Fallwell was the big "wages of sin are death" guy. But, like redman, I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. :)

Where I lost it with Robertson:
One Halloween, he said on the air on his show the 700 club: "Keep your children inside, it is not safe tonight, Halloween is Satan's night, there are witches and demons trying to steal you children's souls out there tonight"
I swear to god he is a nut. He is so far out there....

It's like my great-grandfather told my grandfather: never trust priests or guitar players. (true story)

Being from the VA Beach area I know exactly where CBN and Regent University (both institutions Pat Robertson started).

Myself like many of you are not a big fan of Mr. Robertson, but I can say I know he takes alot of guff for things that he says, rightly or wrongly, as does Jerry Falwell.

I don't know that Pat has said "I am doing it right... look at me" I do know he said that God has given this country protection and that after 9/11 he was quoted as saying that God may have been giving the USA a warning about how we, as a country, have turned away from God. He did say it and still believes it.

Again I am not an apologist for either, but I seriously doubt Pat Robertson said there were people out on Halloween trying to steal children's souls.

The 700 club has spent millions of dollars feeding people, buying children school clothes, and making sure at least some children get some Christmas presents.

Falwell is known in part because of some Tinky Winky reference that was made to a Washington Post article that had been written six months earlier about Tinky Winky being a gay children's character. The article wasn't even written by Falwell but by a writer on his Falwell confidential newspaper.

I do know that Jerry Falwell has invited a pastor and members of the gay congregation to his church for both sides to discuss their doctrinal differences and let it be known that Mr. Falwell, as he said, is not against the anti-gay person, but rather against the lifestyle.

I feel sorry for anyone who has to deal with cancer. I have heard however that it is believed that every man, if he lives long enough, will have cancer of the prostate.

Peace

When I was a government major at Virginia, I interviewed Pat Robertson (he was a presidential candidate at the time!)...I was able to finagle the interview because I was a Marine and so was Robertson at some point (as hard as that was to believe).

My impression...he was a serious (although probably well-intentioned) egomaniac with some pretty kooky ideas. I guess he thought I was just a fan of his, but when I started asking him some tough pointed questions (it was for a research paper so I had to press him a little) he got really pissed and cut the interview short.

I think Robertson has a lot in common with Pat Buchanan and Falwell....probably not the complete idiots that critics paint them to be, and even with some valid commentary occasionally. But you can always count on them for the hysterical nutjob comment, and that seems to be what defines all three of them. Al Sharpton is a soulmate right up there with the three of them!
