Context:
16 team league
6 make playoffs
I am 5-3, in 6th place (well tied for 5th but the other 5-3 team has scored more points than me)
Scoring system: 6 points/TD no matter how it is scored, .5 point per reception, .5 point per completion
My team:
QB: Jay Cutler/Jason Campbell
WR: Anquan Boldin, Braylon Edwards, Brandon Marshall, Deion Branch, Marty Booker
RB: Frank Gore, Thomas Jones, Deshaun Foster, Michael Bennett
TE/K/D doesn't really matter.
I was offered:
Braylon Edwards
for
Peyton Manning
I know fantasy wise Peyton is not Brady. But he is still damn good. And consistent (unlike the 2 QBs I have). Edwards' value won't ever be higher. He's had 5 TDs in his last 2 games. Eventually teams will figure out that he and Winslow are all the Browns have on offense, right? The drop from Edwards to Branch isn't as far as the Manning to Cutler upgrade. I lose WR depth but could trade one of the backup QBs for a backup WR. At least Branch and Boldin are healthy now.

to me, you make this trade.
now is the time to start positioning yourself for a playoff push and getting Manning does that, esp. getting .5 per completion.
what 2nd or 3rd tier WRs does your trading partner have? mave you could get rid of one of your qbs to get one of his WRs. but either way, I do this trade.

I'd go for it - you might also want to try to get some better RBs - (I have frank gore too, what a friggen disappointment)

I'd love better RBs... but in a 16 team league good RBs are few and far between and cost a king's ransom to acquire. The fact that I actually have 3 who are "startable" (Gore, Jones and Foster are all top 25 RBs in points scored and 32 RBs start each week) makes me better off than most teams.
I'm still kicking myself for ranking Gore 3rd and Addai 4th at the start of the season. Believe me.

I would go for it, but Edwards is a top 6 WR going forward.

I have Manning and the thing I like about him is his consistency. He's giving me at least 20 points every week...However, Edwards is #2 WR in my league - behind Randy Moss and he also has been pretty consistent.
The thing is, I always value a top flight QB or a RB over the WR simply because of the number of touches per game. Peyton is going to throw the ball 25-30+ times per game EVERY game...Edwards will have 8-10 reception on a GOOD day.
I would make that trade.
The only thing that causes me to hesitate...take a look at the Browns schedule during the weeks of fantasy playoffs:
Week 14 - Jets, ranked 8th for most fantasy points given up to WR's
Week 15 - Bills, ranked 6th for most fantasy points given up to WR's
Week 16 - Bengals, ranked 1st for most fantasy points given up to WR's
...he gets three of the absolute worst pass defenses in the league during the playoff run.

I did hesitate due to the schedule but I also considered that all of those games are outside in December. Nice unpredictable weather, while I now have a QB who plays in a dome at least half the time.
Today I managed to trade with another owner where I gave up Cutler for Torry Holt. So the net result is Cutler + Edwards for Manning + Holt. Slight downgrade at WR (and I have 4 startable WRs), huge upgrade at QB. May try and upgrade a RB with one of my extra WRs.

Good point about the weather in those 3 games....
...and you did well with the trade. Good job.
Now if you could just get your 2 RB's to score a TD every once in a while you would be well on your way to the Super Bowl ;) . A guy in our league has Gore and Jones as well...it looked like he was going to have the strongest backfield in the league on draft day. Who would have though that heading into week 9 the two of them would have combined for only two 100 yd games and 3 TD's???
