I went over to the ex-wife's house to see the kids today. When I got there, my oldest daughter (4) took me to the kitchen right away.

When we got there, she showed me her prized creation. It was a ragedly cut out football, covered in tiny bits of red and yellow tissue paper.

"Lacy," I said, "That's a nice football."

"No, Daddy," she said. "It's a REDSKINS football. I made it for you!"

It was all I could do not to sob like a baby. Nothing I've ever owned has meant more to me than that "ball." It's on my wall now as a good luck charm. Hopefully it will continue next week.

Hail to the Redskins, and hail to the two most beautiful daughters on the planet. I love my girls. :helmet:

That's great, man, I know what you mean. In the afternoon I taught my boy the words to "Hail to the Redskins" as my wife tried to talk to me, and then in the evening, I explained to my eldest daughter why we hate the Cowgirls (not human beings, evil, loser fans, etc.) My youngest is only 17 months old, but I'll start teaching her the truth soon. You've done well already. HTTR.

Had my own moment of pride the other day. My 4 yr old son, like many other kids in his preschool, had a cold. I went to assist him with blowing his boogie-filled nose, and he proclaimed, "Daddy! I have Cowboys in my nose!" :rotflmao:

That's classic, John. Good stuffs!

I've told this one before on here, but it reminds me of Christmas 2005.

A few days before Christmas, I was getting my daughter, then 2, dressed. As I put on her socks, I said, "Go out and tell your mommy you've got your Dallas socks on."

So of course, she runs into the living room yelling, "Look mommy! Dallas socks! Dallas socks!" Sounded just like "Dallas sucks."

So anyway, on Chistmas eve, I was watching the Giants game at my grandma's house. My gran is a HUGE Skins fan. Again, I told my daughter, "Go tell mom mom about your Dallas shocks."

Hand on hips, she looked back at me and said, "No, Daddy! Not Dallas socks! Dallas SUCKS!!!!"

Thatsa my girl. :D

I started taking my son to games when he was really young. I took him to training camp in Carlisle one year and we spent the day getting autographs. He got one from Emmitt Thomas who told my son that he was nothing but a grounds keeper. My son said he wanted his autograph anyway. Every 'Skin player signed that posse poster for him. Monk, Sanders and Clark stood around their cars shooting the breeze with us. Well, he's 26 now, and I heard him telling his girlfriend about it last Sunday as he was coming over to watch the game. We still have the poster - we won the Superbowl that year and it sticks with them. Keep up the good parenting!

GREAT story! It just does something to you when you see your kids buying into the burgundy and gold. My 2-year old can sing the full chorus of Hail to the Redskins now. We started teaching it to her early...right along with Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and all those things. Now, she's even got the tune and the rhythm right! And she finishes every rendition with:

How 'bout Cowboys?? BOOOOOOOO COWBOYS!!
How 'bout Giants?? STINKY GIANTS!!
How 'bout Eagles?? STINKY EAGLES!!
How 'bout Redskins?? YAYYYYY REDSKINS!!!

Then she goes around the room and gives EVERYONE a high 5!! :applause:

I have GOT to get this kid on a commercial or the jumbotron or something. Give those fans at the stadium a model for the proper level of pride they should have when singing HTTR! :point2sky

Great Story -
I've braiwashed my kids into Redskins Football. They have never really lived in Maryland but it works (We travel to 1 game a year). My son is 6 and is a Die Hard fan. During games I find my self discussing cover 2 and if we should blitz and then it hits me - He's 6! My proudest moment was when he was 5 and waas talking to his 26 year old cousin-in-law, who is a redskin fan. They started asking Redskins trivia and my Son one up'd him....

There is something GREAT about having your Kids share your obsession....Every Sunday has become a Redskins Holiday at our house.... Including the pre-game football game.

She's an amazing kid, Dave. Wise beyond her years.

On one particularly tough day during our divorce proceedings, she was sitting on my lap while I was visiting with her. She looked up at me out of the blue and said, "Daddy, do you still love mommy?"

I said, "Of course I do honey, and more importantly we both love you and your sister more than ever."

She didn't skip a beat and said, "Well that's because you're a good dad."

Heh. She then got a lesson on why sometimes people cry when they're happy. :)

Anyway, sorry to get off topic in the stadium. I just get kinda choked up when it comes to the kids.

I'm hoping to bring her to a game next year. She actually told me she wants to go. Course, that'll require daddy not getting stupid at a tailgate for once.

unfortunately these are the stories that you dont hear enough of these days. i wish that these guys would realize that the few minutes they take out of their lives to just talk to someone and show their appreciation to them for being fans can really make their day, and really make some lasting memories.

h_h congrats on raising a great little girl!! treasure her gift to you. i remember when i was a kid i made my dad a clay coffee mug in elementary school. he still has it to this day and tells me its one of his prized possessions.

You're right on all counts, here squatch. No doubt. Joe Theismann went out of his way to make some time for me at camp in 1983, and I won't forget that as long as I live. Like you, I wish more of the current players would realize how much those "little things" mean to us.

As for my daughter's "gift" to me, I treasure it every day. And it's not about a paper football. It's the fact that this little person loves me, respects me and looks to me for guidance. There's simply no greater privilege in life than to have the love of your child. Don't get me wrong. I love that little football too. And I wasn't exaggerating when I said it was my post prized possession. I just think the word "gift" as you used it has many meanings, and I cherish them all. :)

I took my 3 yr old son to his first game this past Sunday against the Eagles. Watching the joy on his face every time we scored or made a good play was awesome. Yes we lost but seeing how much he enjoyed the game made it worthwhile. He interacted with all the fans real well even the Eagles fans. We sat in Section 216 and everybody around us acted very well. I was a little skeptical about taking him to the games because it is an adult atmosphere but I will take him to more. Its amazing how all the fans even the ones that had alot to drink embrace the kids. It was definitely a good experience.

Boy, that's good to hear Russ. Glad you and your son had a good experience. I often wonder what it's like to take small children to the game, and I'm glad it worked out well for you.

I've sat in 216 before, and I think it's a good section. A buddy of mine has season tickets there, and I've always had good experiences when I've used them.

BTW, welcome to the board, my friend. Enjoy your stay. Also, I see you listed Andrews as your location. I assume you're serving this fine country? If so, please accept my thanks. God bless you and you're family.

I posted this else wheres but I'll put it here as well.

I had my daughter one sunday this year and I had my jersey on, she got all excited when she saw hers. I had to take it off her once and she got all upset till I put the jersey back on her. Then as I was watching the game I yelled "YAY REDSKINS!!" and she repeated it. Then a couple plays later the redskins scored and she yelled without me prompting "YAY REDSKINS!!!"

Two weeks later I had her again. Put my jersey ona dn she ran to her closet to get hers.

This past weekend I was wearing my Redskins hat, and she immediately took it off my head, put it on her head and proclaimed "My Hat!" and walked around proudly wearing it.

She dances to Hail to the Redskins, and I almost got her saying "Dallas Sucks!"

She's 22 months old btw ;).

Thank you. Yes I am Security Forces in the Air Force. I usually sit in sec 133 but I was very happy with 216. I have lurked on this board for a long time but couldn't remember my old screen name. I have always enjoyed this board. I was stationed in Alaska for 8 years so I couldn't ever make it to a game but now I am stationed here so its very exciting for me. Now if we can just get back to RedSkins football. The way it used to be. Again Thank you for your kind words.

All great stuff. I hope to be good parents as some of you are one day. It was the same thing for me growing up. My dad told me before I started kindergarten (before the start of the 1987-88 season, GO FIGURE!) "We only cheer for the Redskins...Dallas is a bad team, we don't like them AT ALL" And there it began.

My dad worked for Channel 4 and has been to five Super Bowls (including XXII in San Diego) working as production staff. Working closely with George Michael on Redskins Report and Sports Machine, he got to meet a lot of the players. He even bought me a picture of Doug Williams that he autographed for me. As kindergarten-er, the best thing was showing my class the picture of me with my dad, Doug Williams and Mark May. Great stuff. I've been 'Skins fan almost since birth and makes me smile to hear stories about your kids and how they already love the Redskins...because believe that no other jersey will be worn in my household other than Burgundy and Gold :point2sky

What heartwarming (and funny) stories! I love the one about "cowboys in my nose" - classic! Those of you setting your little kids on the right path are putting in place something you will bond over all your lives.

I got my love of the B & G from mom & dad. Mom is gone now, but she was the most rabid fan. She was full of game-day superstitions and used to wear all kinds of crazy gear for luck. When the Redskins lost, we knew to get out of the house and go play.

Dad and I still talk Skins all the time. He doesn't live in the area and so doesn't get a lot of local news. I love when he calls and asks, "so what is the word on .....?" It keeps us connected. He came out here to visit last year - hadn't been here in 10 years, and we went to two games. I was so excited to be with him sharing our love of the Redskins. And yes, I'm all growed up now. ;)

You're giving your kids a piece of something you love, a piece of you, and that's something that won't fade.

Reminds me of the time I was playing Madden when my daughter came downstairs. I had picked the Redskins 75th anniversary uniforms and was playing against the Giants.

She said, "Who's the blue, Daddy?"

I said, "The Giants."

Then she asked, "Who's the yellow?"

I said, "That's a new Redskins uniform."

She was about half-pissed when she said, "No, Daddy. Redskins wear red, not yellow. I'm gonna go tell mom."

Same here bro. My dad isn't much of a sports fan, so I kinda had to learn on my own to love the Redskins. Luckily for me, my mom was smart enough to put me into football and I loved it ever since! :D And I pride myself on the fact that I picked the Redskins, not the Cowboys or Eagles or Giants or Ravens, to be my favorite football team. My kids will be raised as Skins fans, and I will have them be wearing Skins jerseys.

But ... I'm not sure if I want to take them to a game until they're old enough to really appreciate it.
