Current NFC East Standings
---------------------------
Dallas=7-1
Giants=6-2
Skins=5-3
Eagles=3-5

Dallas=Will lose 4 more games so book it!They still have Skins twice,Giants,Eagles,Packers,Lions,Jets and Carolina...Skins,Giants,Lions and Panthers are all on the road!Their Eagles and Packers home games should be tough (eagles better on road imo)I look at the Jets as being their only sure victory!They also still have us at their house too!

Summary:I see Dallas losing at least 4 more games...I realize that they look as good as any team in the league right now,but I've seen way to many seasons where the Cowboys start off HOT only to fizzle out at the end!And 7 of their 8 games left will be tough tasks for them to handle!This questionable post will be answered when the Giants beat Dallas next week and then it will start to come together!11-5 for the Cowboys!

Giants=By the Giants defeating Dallas next week(will happen!)This gives them 7 games remaining to lose 3 games by reaching 11-5 as well...They would be 3-1 in the division with that victory with only the Skins @home and the Eagles on the road...(their in good shape)They still have @Lions,Vikings,@Bears,@Bills and of course the Patriots!But they can only afford 3 losses if they want to have an 11-5 record...By not including the 2 Division games they have remaining,I believe the Patriots,Lions and Bears could be a problem for them....The Vikings and Bills seem to be their easiest of the bunch,but are starting to play alot better!

Summary:I see the Giants lossing at least 4 more games...The only way they can prevent this from happening, is if they win the rest of their Division games going 5-1...Definately possible with the way their defense has been playing,but I think this BYE week will cool them off a bit!I see them dropping either the Redskins or Eagles game...I also see the Patriots winning,Lions knocking them off as well as either the Vikings or Bears....4 losses total giving them a 10-6 record for the season!4-2 in the Division,but their overall will keep them from first place!

Redskins=We are entering the part of the season where we play our very best IMO!However...We can only afford to lose 2 more games for the remainder of the season if we want the Title!It's a tough task,but I think it can and will be done and here's how...We still have 4 more division games left!I believe we will drop 1 of them,but it will NOT be from the Cowboys!We will either lose to the Eagles this next weekend or the Giants at home later in the year...Yes...I said it!We will sweep Dallas!We will go 4-2 in the Division and own the tiebreaker over the Cowboys who will only be 3-3 in the Division at 11-5...

Summary:This leaves the Skins only 1 game left to lose to reach 11-5...We would still have the Bills and Bears at home and the Vikes and Bucs on the road with only a game to spare!I believe we win our 2 home games against the Bills and Bears....So I believe we will either lose to the Bucs or the Vikings of either of those 2 road games...(I think it will be the Vikings)Here is the Standings after what I have written here...

NFC East
---------
Redskins=11-5 OVR.....4-2 Div....3-1 NON-conf....8-4 Conf
Cowboys=11-5 OVR....3-3 Div....3-1 NON-conf....8-4 Conf
N.Y.Giants=10-6 OVR...4-2 Div...3-1 NON-conf....7-5 Conf

I think the Eagles will fall between 6-10 at worst to 9-7 at best...I do not think they will make the playoffs,but they might upset a few teams down the stretch!

Keys to holding Home field advantage throughout the playoffs if my analysis of these standings have merit...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
1)We need the Lions to win their Division,but have no better than an 11-5 overall record...Possible?Well,they are 3-0 in their Division right now and have yet to even play the packers...It is very possible for their Division to look an awful lot like our own when the season ends...If they were to sweep G.B.then they would have an excellent chance to do so!We only need them to lose 3 games to reach that 11-5 mark and with 3 Division games left and the Giants and Cowboys to play both at HOME...They still have San Diego and K.C. left on their schedule as well!In our case...the loss to G.B. would have no affect if we win our Division as the Packers would be fighting for the Wildcard!

2)The NFC West and South are not lighting anything up as of now...Both Division leaders in the Bucs and Seahawks have 4 losses each!This makes the Skins vs. Bucs matchup even more interesting...A loss to the Bucs would NOT be devastating due to their current record,but a Victory would put us in excellent shape in holding HMA at the end of the season!But at this point,anyone could win their respected Divisions being how tight the current race for those 2 Divisions are...Which makes that Cardinals victory even that much more important!

3)If for some reason we do not win 11 games and fall between 8-8 or 10-6 in a worst case scenario...It will be VITAL that we defeat the Bucs and Vikings and Eagles and perhaps the Bears as 4 of our wins...A sweep over Philly will make them have to pass us in our overall record and any even record with Arizona,Vikings,Bucs and Bears...If these are the only games we win for the rest of the season,then this would give us a 9-7 record with tiebreakers over all 4 teams...Current records are Bucs 5-4,Vikings 3-5,Arizona 3-5 and the Bears at 3-5!Obviously,we would need either the Giants or Lions to collapse for this to happen and that 6th WC spot to open up,but you never know?

Either way...I believe 11-5 wins our Division and if you look at our past records since Gibbs2 has been here...04' was 6-10....05' was 10-6 (reversed)and then last year 06' we were 5-11 so if you do the math...maybe we can reverse that to 11-5 this year!If we do...Then HFA might be through JKC Stadium! :cheers:

I bet you actually spent about an hour running this scenario through your head didn't you? I bet by the 45 minute mark you really thought you were on to something and started believing it.

Truth is, no one knows. Only half the season is over, but I do know that all that you stated above has about a 1 in 100000 shot at happening. In other words, it won't.

Well, if you say Dallas will lose 4 more games, I guess it has to be true.

I'd like to see that. Will it happen? We can only hope. I don't thik it will, though.

A positive attitude is always nice to have. :D

You are nuts for thinking the Skins will go 11-5 let alone win the division.

Put down the crack pipe.

I admire the amount of thought and effort you put into your post, but several events you mentioned, while they could happen, probably won't.

Love to see the Cowboys lose 4 games or more. Love to see the Giants stumble and fall back to us as well.

But us sweeping Dallas this year, or even taking off and ending the season with a 6-2 finish? Current trends can certainly change, but I don't see either of those things happening, let alone both of them.

And to say the Giants will struggle off a bye week is counter-intuitive also. A week of rest in the NFL midseason is usually welcomed by most teams. I doubt the Giants turn into the Rockies just because of a bye week.

It wouldn't even surprise me if the Giants were the team to knock off the Patriots in Week 17 since NE will have like a 12-game division lead while the Giants will be fighting for NFC East supremacy.

Put down the crack pipe.

I'm afraid its much worse than crack. Its a case of delusional homerism enhanced by crack.

Our loss to the Giants in week 3 was a killer...if we'd won that then I'd like our chances of winning the division. As of now, I have no idea. We're only halfway through the season.

That was a brutal loss indeed. Just one more first down here or there in the second half and the Giants simply wouldn't have had enough time to come back. I keep telling myself I've moved on from that game, but... :(

This reminds me last year of the elaborate (and asinine) posts about how we had to run the table and team X was going to lose 5 straight and Team Y was going to lose 5 out of the last 7, etc., etc..

Hope springs eternal.

I don't mind people hoping for the best. On the other hand, you'll understand when I don't book my tickets and hotel room in Arizona.

yes, yes, yes, but dreaming is so fun when it includes a sweep of Dallas.

Your Kool-Aid is much stronger than mine, my friend! I would love 11-5 but really I've set my sights on 2 in a row.

If we win 3 of our remaining division games we make the playoffs. That would pretty much do it. We have to beat the Eagles...Giants...and the last Dallas game in D.C.

If we don't...then we are going to be in a close dogfight for a playoff spot.

Hey Mike, I love the positive enthusiasm of your post! I would just caution you to consider a couple of things;
1)Yes, it is still early--As competitive as our division is this year, this race is still wide open. Yes, dallas & new york are ahead of us in the standings, & both are playing lights out football. However, I feel that the loser of their sunday matchup starts sliding back to the pack. That said, I believe the Skins' destiny is still in their hands. Coming down the stretch this year should be loads of fun!
2)The War of Attrition--of course this goes without saying, but the injury bug will have a LOT to do with how the NFC East shakes out. Look, outside of the QB position, new york CANNOT lose burris & dallas CANNOT lose barber (if we lost cooley for a month, we'd be screwed.), among others. Or a rash of injuries at a critical position (say corner or off. tackle) would kill anybody's division hopes.
3)PRESSURE--Now we all get to find out who are the contenders, & who are the pretenders. C'mon, we see it every year....a team starts out red hot, espn proclaims them SB champs before halloween, & said team plays its way outta contention by thanksgiving. With that said, everyone besides philly has a youngster taking snaps in our division (advantage new york), so its hard to say in advance which team will get it done. Also, playing tough games down the stretch for huge stakes reveals a team's character & guts. We will all see who's got the goods.
4)Schedule--The key to it all! Who has the toughest schedule down the stretch, & who has the easiest? Who has the most home games left, & who has the least? And who matches up best agaist their remaining opponnets, & who matches up the worst?
Simply put, I feel that these factors will help you determine the NFC Champion this year. Hail to 'em!

hate to say it but it's very possible the skins only win two - three more. 8-8 sounds real.

A division title is not any better than a wild card berth unless we have home field advantage.

Banking on other teams losing instead instead of just winning games and making noise in the playoffs is a desperate measure my friend.

Green Bay and Dallas will likely get home field advantage and I personally would not want a first round bye because that can stop a teams momentum.

Making the playoffs, Wildcard or not likely means we will face an NFC East rival which mean all records out the door we will fight until the very end
