View Full Version : Should CP beef up again after the season?

I have noticed recently and especially this past week, that CP is definitely back in game shape. However, it seems he has shrunk all the way back down to '04 size. I know he's tough, but we all remember the beating he took in '04 which eventually shelved him at the end of the season. In my opinion, he should add more muscle back on after the season's over, and get back to '05 form, when he had drumsticks for legs, which enabled him to break a hell of a lot of tackles that year. Right now, he is faster than he was that season, but he is so fast that he would'nt lose much speed by putting the weight back on. I think this may be the reason why he has gone down on first contact a lot this season, mostly from the result of ankle tackles, which he would have shaken off back in '05. Anyone agree with me?

i still dont think he has completely gotten his speed back. im content with his size right now. if he can beef up without sacrificing speed, then im all for that. i definitely wouldnt mind another 05 performance from him

he'd definitely benefit from some more muscle considering how physically he likes to run. I'm sure it'd make him more resilient to injury as well.

he should do whatever he can to get his legs healthy, period. he is most effective when he has burst, not when he gains another half a yard from an extra ten pounds.

I agree; I don't think he should bulk up.

He's much better as the quick, big play guy. We have Betts and Sellers that can take care of the rest.

I don't think he should bulk up but rather work on improving where he's at right now.

try and get faster and more explosive while putting on a few(5-10 NOT 15-20) more pounds

in 05 he put on like 20 and didnt have that break away speed.

I don't think he should bulk up and I don't think he is necessarily a physical guy. I feel that when the OL starts to open up some holes for him like Minnesota is doing for Adrian Peterson, then you'll see that he is was more effective in space.

I don't think he needs to beef up, so much as he needs to go back to his Bro Sweets, etc costumes.

He ran a 4.3 40 in training camp, and he's still more bulky than his 04 form.

Well if I was CP I would have better things to worry about next year such as having a starting job. Don't get fooled yet, if you take away this one game last week, CP had a VERY bad year in any standard. I am just praying he puts up couple of more close to 200 yards performance first, then worry about last year.

He's still one of the fastest RBs in the league.

he's still better than most running backs so i'm not complaining... i'm sure he knows what he's doing... hopefully, he's more concerned with his condition than us...

Good question, and I'll say no.

He shouldn't beef up. He should actually participate in full practice throughout training camp and play pre-season games, at least 2 or 3 series, so that he starts the season in game shape.

It's been a big disappointment how long it's taken for his speed to re-develop.

He sure hasn't looked very fast this year. I don't think he should lose any weight, but he definitely shouldn't gain any weight either. He looks slower than he has in the past, which I think was partly due to not being in shape or being injured.

He looked pretty darn healthy against the Jets though.

Personally, I think he's better at the '04 size as opposed to when he bulked up.

CP is fine that way he is. Just getting back to game shape will help him alot...

I'd love to have a back that uses his quickness more than his size. Emmitt Smith always used his speed before being physical. He had the same combination that Portis has and I wish they would go to more of a zone blocking scheme, because CP thrives on that.

No.

We have others for that and he is better as the home run hitter let Betts and Sellers do the singles and Doubles stuff.
In his time here, he has been anything but a home run hitter, he's been the guy who consistently hits singles and doubles with some home runs. In his first year with us, he had only one monster run (40+ yards, 35+ if a TD) and just 4 greater than 20. As a receiver, he had no long catches although he did have one called back. In his second year, CP had only one home run, just 2 monsters, less than 10 runs of more than 20 yards and no long catches. Last year, he had no monster runs, 2 home runs, 3 of 20+ and only 1 huge reception. So far this year, no monster runs, no home runs, only 2 for more than 20 and no huge receptions.

Anyone can play that game! If you take away just NE, he's having a great year. If you take away his best and his worst, he's having an OK year. Also, remember that he is doing this behind a makeshift line, and in one of those games. Even in 2005, he had two bad games (one would make NE look like a big game). Further, even great RBs usually have 2-3 stinkers and 2-3 monsters. To tell you the truth, I wouldn't be suprised to see CP have another stinker (or Betts is the man that day or our passing game is something special against the given opponent or we just find ourselves in the position where we must abandon the run game).

if he gets us 1500 yards of offensive production and 10 td's I think it will be a successful year for CP. Maybe not pro-bowl caliber, but very good.

I have a feeling that this team will start to roll, one by one the offense is going to start to open up. I can feel it in my bones. It's gonna happen.

I just hope he plans on restructuring for next year
