"Defensive Rookie -- Amobi Okoye, DT, Houston -- The 20-year-old wunderkind leads the improved Texans defense with five sacks (one more than fellow first-round pick Mario Williams), and he's handling a demanding position that would challenge any first-year player.

While San Francisco middle linebacker Patrick Willis has been strong for the slumping 49ers, leading the NFL in tackles with 83, Okoye's greater production should give the Texans their second consecutive defensive ROY, after linebacker DeMeco Ryans won it last year.

• Kudos to: Patrick Willis, San Francisco, and LaRon Landry, Washington."

While this is just a blip on the radar screen, its good to know that lately some of our past and current draft picks have gotten some notice and most importantly they are producing on the field.

Landry still has not made many big plays yet. As much as it's lame to say, stats are what matters for these picks. Never mind that Landry's play on the line has enabled Taylor to be on pace for his best season yet.

So far Okoye and Peterson are running away with ROY honors.

Remember when people were saying Okoye would be a major bust because his old coach didn't take him, showing everyone if his old coach didn't want him, he wouldn't do well in the league?

Morons.

if anyone other than Adrian Peterson wins this award it will be criminal. He's pushing for league MVP at this point imho...

Landry still rocks though.

Adrian Peterson doesn't play on both sides of the ball. This is defensive ROY.

Yeah, Landry would have to step it up the 2nd half of the season to win defensive ROY. I was happy to see him blitzing more in the jets game. He gets through the holes very, very fast.

By the way, has anyone ever won MVP and a ROY honor in the same season?

The way peterson runs I could see him being an impact safety.

if he plays his final 8 games the way he did on sunday he'll probabaly pull ahead of the others(especially if we make the playoffs)

Not sure but Lawrence Taylor won the DROY award and the NFL POY award when he was a rookie.

Landry needs to get more sacks, and take at least one pick six or fumble to the house, to get some press and make ESPN's top plays. Otherwise he'll never get it. Of course Demeco Ryans was a pretty quiet DROY as far as top plays went last year, IIRC.

That is crap. DBs aren't supposed to get their names heard. If you do hear them, then that means that they're NOT doing their jobs. He's a strong safety and I wouldn't take a single safety not named Sean Taylor over him in the LEAGUE, let alone rookies.

Landry is easily the defensive ROY

I know Okoye has been great, but imo, if I were making the call, I'm not sure I wouldn't give it to Willis at this point. He is everywhere and seems like he's seasoned vet.

There is still half a season to be played. A lot can change.

man... he's been playing like a beast, and he is REAL effective in our system. but he just doesnt put up the numbers he would need to in order to win

hopefully there are a lot more sacks, FF, FR and picks in the next couple weeks

Yeah, but look at Gaines Adams in Tampa. He's have difficulty see the field and he was the first defensive player off the board. They've had to tweak his technique and everything.

If Williams keeps blitzing him, and he gets some INTs then he'd be right up there with Okoye, but even though he's not looking like RoY at this point, I'm very glad we got him.

I'm extremely surprised that Okoye has looked this good, this fast. I didnt think he'd be bad, but I thought it might take him a little while to get adjusted. Apparently not.

What would we be like, if we drafted Okoye?

I'm pretty sure that George Rogers got ROY, when LT was a rookie....he might have received MVP, as well.

I like the enthusiasm but as a SS playing in the box Landry's name should be heard, and it has. He's quitely had a great season but Okoye is just a step ahead of him at this point. A lot of Okoye's sacks came early in the year so Landry can still come away with the award. Although I think he is going to need a few more big plays (Sacks, FF, FR, INT, TD?) to really be noticed on a national level. Playing in the shadow of Sean Taylor can make it hard to be noticed.

I remember people hating hard on Okoye before the draft. Glad to see he's doing well, would have been a good pick up for us too, but I'm happy with Landry.

How's Alan Branch doing??? HAAAAAAAAAAAA. "Branch at 6!!" sike, can't believe people wanted him that high
