It's Bush's fault. Oh, and global warming surely caused it.

A three-metre tidal surge is predicted to surge down the English Channel in the next 12 hours posing an "extreme danger to life and property", experts have warned.
Coupled with storms and high tides, the wave could leave swathes of the east coast under water, according to the Environment Agency.
A combination of gale force winds off the coast of Scotland and high tides are expected to cause floods which could breach sea defences.

some areas could be in serious trouble - 10ft is a lot of water and some areas around Norfolk etc are right down at sea level.
People have been advised not go to bed tonight but to stay up and keep an eye on local sea and river levels. Probably is Bush's fault :point2sky ;)
This link shows how much of England could be threatened:

Yep. This happens to England every once in a while. Sometimes they get huge surges up the Bristol Channel too.

My thought and prayers go to my family and people of England. They aren't too close to the channel, but it's still a little concerning.

This is what I found:
Thousands go home after tide fear (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7086280.stm)
Thousands of people who left their homes amid fears of flooding are returning after the biggest tidal surge for half a century.
Fears of widespread flooding in eastern England have diminished as tides peaked without major breaches of sea defences.
The waters were nearly 8in (20cm) lower than originally feared and passed without causing major damage.
Environment Secretary Hilary Benn said it had been a "close run thing" but that the worst was now over.
The North Sea surge had been moving south during Friday, combining with high tides and strong winds to create flooding risks along the coast.
Residents on the Kent coast had been told to remain vigilant due to high tides on Friday afternoon, but no major flooding was reported.

I have a lot of family in Margate, near Ramsgate, which is located directly on the Channel. I know they have water barriers there--I don't know how well they work. I'll have to get in touch with them.
