I'll be the 1st to say how unhappy I am with this team right now.

But,there is a flipside.

We have most of our draft picks for next year, and check out this youth.

This is Active, Practice Squad and IR.

Just looking at these names of guys who already contribute, or COULD.

Alexander, Doughty, Golston, McIntosh, Montgomery, Torrence, Wilson, Espy, Campbell, Suisham, Rogers, Blades, Heyer, Landry, Buzzbee, Mason, Westbrook.

Giving the right coaches and another good draft. There could be some gems in there.

Let's just hope that we have a stable of success instead of a whole bunch of Taylor Jacobs clones--and couple that with a hope that we currently have (or will acquire) the right staff to develop their talents.

Time will tell.

True. Hopefully we end up with more HB Blades types.

I am more happy about Heyer I see him being a great tackle for us in the future

For some reason I thought we cut Nehemiah a year ago. Is he STILL on the practice squad?

I think if things go south. We need to put some known banged up guys on IR, and bring up guys like Buzbee, Westbrook and Mason to the active roster.Get them some game experience.

The staff will have to put more trust in these guys to see if they can make a impact.
Trust being the key word.

I think he's on IR, actually. A step up. The preseason game I saw him play in I thought he did great. Of course, that was last season.

Not to be Debbie Downer, but I don't see that much young talent on that list.

I like that we have almost all of our draft picks for next year though.

Most of those guys are cut with a new staff coming in.. Espy is probably done I hate to say. Blown out knee plus never having really played yet.

Buzzbee, he is a maybe..

Mason, he needs to start playing special teams to get on the field.

Westbrook, same thing or he is gone after next year.

Jury is still out on Torrence.

Rogers after blowing out his knee and some of his problems may be done as well...

Every team has young talent playing or waiting in the wings, even Miami and St Louis.

That doesn't do much to cheer me up, I'm afraid.

I'd prefer some young talent at the head coach position.

Not that this post was overly pessimistic, but what's with the change in attitude lately, iheart?

I've never seen you give up like I feel you have been lately...

Kinda disappointed...

Fire GIBBS

How dare he change the way that Redskins have been doing business since Danny arrived.

How dare he make 5 correct personel decisions to every bad one, just like the rest of the nfl. The bad ones are just SOOO bad that I cant see past it to the correct decisions.

20% unsuccessful rate IS NOT ACCEPTABLE (to us)(for some reason)(unlike the rest of the NFL fans)

Ironic that the one position in which we're crippled with 30-somthings (the O-line) isn't very well represented on that list.

The thing is will Gibbs call it quits after the season, and from all I see, it's yes. He gave it his best, but his best wasn't good enough and he's humble enough to know this.

The problem, having Danny find the right coach and hopefully not Gregg Williams. Vinny Cerrato is another problem, we need a GM that can help guide Danny as Joe was doing and may dismiss Vinny.

Drafting players in later rounds that can compete, have an upside and are hungry. And I'm not just talking about OL, maybe guys with hearts like I think Blades will have.

Keeping our core guys together that's young and talented, and not spending on the wrong FA's.

Hiring a young coach with some balls and knowledge of the game that can also relate with the players of todays NFL better. A coach that will hold players accountable and demand 110% regardless or you ride the bench. No sugar coating for players or for miserable football play.

KDawg--that's a fair question and I'm sorry to have disappointed.

The losses this season have been particularly painful, and I think that, more than anything else, has been the biggest culprit in changing my attitudes towards Gibbs' leadership.

I'm all for balanced criticism, but it's gotten harder for me not to agree that something isn't fundamentally awry given the way that we've lost some of the games this season.

Maybe it's just bad luck, maybe it's the players, maybe it's the injuries, and maybe it's the coaching staff.

What I find myself keep coming back to is the fact that Gibbs, as the man running the show, is ultimately responsible for the success or failure of this squad irrespective of what we, as the fans, or what he, as the Head Coach, identifies to be the primary culprit for our inability to close out those games.

I concede that we're 5-4 (and I know that's a winning record). But that's not what I (or most fans, be them rational or irrational) had hopes for.

I think we were all looking for the team to be a Super Bowl contender (i.e., that we were going to return to Gibbs I). And we're not there and I don't think we're particularly close.

This may be the pessimistic (or as I see it, the realistic :)) view of the situation at hand, but my current stance on the 'Skins essentially boils down to (i) the excrutiatingly painful ways we've lost games this season and (ii) the fact that we're clearly not, midway through year 4 of Gibbs II, a Super Bowl contender.

All that said, iheart, does our complaining have any effect on what the franchise does with Joe Gibbs?

I think the man deserves all the support we can give him. Past, present, future, whatever he does/did he brought us three Lombardi Trophies. The least we can do is support him until he and the franchise decide the future.

I'm not arguing the disappointment of this season, but I still believe Coach deserves our support. One thing is for sure, he will NEVER give up.

I'll second that....and that's the case for all teams I'm sure.

Remember the fire Matt Millan stuff in Detroit? Owners don't answer to anybody.

A refreshing post. It really bugs me that this team seems to have finally turned away from the "win now" philosophy and the super free agent spending, and folks on this board are complaining that we aren't winning now, and showing no patience in letting Campbell or others develop.

What a great example of how things can appear so badly one year [or six years for Detroit's case], yet can straighten out seemingly overnight. Matt Millen, no front office experience to speak of, and not much, if any coaching experience, went straight from the broadcast booth to the front office and even he gets plenty of time to turn things around. Yet so many folks around here are ready to jettison a 3-time Super Bowl winning coach who's flirting with *only* a .500 record? They would've killed for that in Detroit over Millen's term, which at the end of 2006 was a paltry 24-72 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Millen) [.250 winning pct.].

I wonder how many people that are willing to make Gibbs walk the plank now will come back genuflecting at his feet when he starts winning again? Even Norv got seven years here. Doesn't Gibbs II deserve a chance to finish out the last of his five?

A GM and a coach are two different things. Millian mistakes take longer to develop. A coach who makes the same gameday mistakes should be on a short leash.

Norv is the perfect example of how to do it wrong. Why duplicate?

Maybe because before Gibbs,Danny ran through coaches like crap through a goose??

And it's not like people are talking about giving Joe and extention. Just let him fulfill his contract. Maybe that would go a long way to proving to future HC candidates that Danny is patient and will atleast give them time to implement their program. :2cents:
