View Full Version : Tom Brady: Envied or Hated?

While I've always enjoyed watching Tom Brady play (The dude is about to give me my first fantasy football championship he along with Adrian Peterson LOL). I begin to notice that "The Golden Boy" isn't so golden with fans anymore.
While he basically came from nowhere (6th round draft pick) to being a 3-time Super Bowl Champion and everyone's hero (well except us Skins fans). To now being apart of the new "EVIL EMPIRE" As I watched a great game last night and I listened to the Ravens comments afterwards it seems as though the shine has definitely come off of Brady. So it begs the question is Tom Brady envied by fans because of his success or hated because of his arrogance.
I listened to the media's perception of him and while they do think he's a Hall of Famer they refuse to put in the same class as Marino, Elway, Montana, Aikman.
Your thoughts?

hated on the field, especially this year with his attitude and the way the pats completely disregard any other team and show no respect.
envied off field for his personal life and who he dated.

Great talent, but man does he cry like a ***** if someone so much as looks at him cross-eyed on the field.

He is definitely one of the better QB's that the NFL has seen in a long time. One of the BEST, even. However, his actions as of late with his constant bitching and his "look at me I am the greatest thing since sliced bread" attitude is rather annoying and tiresome.
Arrogance is one thing.. Brady takes it to ANOTHER level. THAT is what makes him hated.

That's what I don't like about him, and he compounds it with a false modesty that I just cannot stand.

I think the guy is supremely confident, as all masters of their craft are. I haven't noticed a constant arrogance about him, though. Maybe I'm not paying close enough attention. :whoknows:
Look, I'm no Brady-lover, but I have a huge amount of respect for his skill. I've been on record many a time as saying the Patriots run is directly attributable to him, way beyond anyone else in that organization. I think Belichick would have lasted 3 years there w/o Brady and would now be relegated to being a DC for the balance of his career. You put Brady on the Redskins and they are sitting on top of the NFC right now. His ability and confidence rubs off on his teammates and makes every single one of them better by challenging them to match it. Randy Moss would be an absolute cancer on most other teams because he knows would be the best player on those teams. In NE, he realizes that he has to be A LOT better to get to Brady's level, and he respects it and doesn't rock the boat.
I'm reminded of the saying - it ain't bragging if it's true.

I haven't caught the Brady-horrendous-arrogance thing, and admittedly, I haven't seen that many Brady interviews. That said, I think he's everything Sonny J said in his post, love to watch him, have no prob with his coach or the team, and just generally think it's all great that the Patriots are what they are and set the league standard. It reminds me of the old dynasty days and I like that tradition as a football fan, though I always wish it was the 'skins. I wasn't even all that worked up about the whole "cheating" thing, for what to me are logical reasons that shouldn't need explaining, but I agree with the censure anyway.
I'm one of the guys hoping they get the perfect season and enjoying the games I see them playing. I think as great as Brady is, that staff also makes more out of their personnel than most any other in the league. I think it's what they bring to the table in terms of credibility and having a football intensity, and work/responsibility ethic that nets real rewards and not just "pride" that settles a guy like Moss down. I think they have earned every accolade they've received.

Brady for me is hated and envied. The hate does come from jealousy. If you have any team or player that always wins, other fans don't want to see that. There's been no other organization that has been as much winners as the Patriots, but I'm sick of it. Especially with all the scandals and somewhat unsportsmanlike conduct shown by Belichick and the Patriots.
I didn't mind Brady at first, as he was the next underdog to succeed in the NFL, but I'm sick of his 'Golden Boy' image portrayed by the NFL and the media.
That said, he definitely belongs among the greatest QBs to ever play. He never really had much talent at the WR position (whenever the players leave, they don't do anything). This year, he finally gets some weapons, and he lights up the league. His clutch performances and ability to win are amazing as well.

Believe me it wasn't easy to do but you have to be realistic. 3 Super Bowl Championships. I'd love to have a QB that can get us back to one.

I've seen Brady cry more than anyone else I've ever watched play football. Running up to the ref acting like a little girl about every little ticky tacky thing on the field makes me want to vomit.

That's exactly my problem. If someone so much as breathes on him funny, he's in the Refs' faces about it.

I thought Suggs was gonna spin him around and body slam him on the offsides play. Kinda wish he would have. Not to hurt him, but just shake his bones up a little. I'll admit, I yelled "slam his ass into the turf" when he grabbed him.

He will be inducted into the NFL HOF as soon as he's eligible. People can debate that all they want. As far as his interviews go, I just think of them as Belichick standing next to him operating the puppet. As long as teams continue to do STUPID moves against him (like the Ravens calling that time out and not having someone there to plug up his runs on 3rd down plays) he'll continue to get lucky by taking advantage of them.

I honestly done have a problem with Brady. I respect him. But Coach Belichick I can't stand. Brady makes him look good.

one could argue that this is a direct result of signal stealing. If you know what play is coming, you can plug most anyone in there and they will succeed.
Is the offensive lines great play attributed to signal stealing? no.
but what about Gaffney, bethel Johnson, Caldwell, givens, patten, branch... are they results of it? probably. It's easier to succeed when your coach calls a play that puts you in the best position 9/10 times.
Is this my personal opinion? no, but it is most certainly a topic for debate

People only think Brady's arrogant because they expect it, and will point out every little thing he does to support their expectations. I don't like how the Patriots ran up the score against us, and yes, I do think there is such a thing in the NFL because fans are still involved. That said, I can't deny that Brady's probably the best quarterback the Patriots could ever want to have, and undoubtedly one of the best ever. He deserves to be mentioned among the super-elite.

I started hating him when I saw him on the field complain to the referee in almost every single play.
I hope he lands on the IR soon after Troy Polumalu blindsides him.

Haha you complain about Brady talking to the refs? MJ did it the entire time, all the stars do.

Peyton cries to the officials a lot too, and why not? It might result in a call going his team's way later in the game. It's what superstars do.
Belichick is pretty much an arrogant jerk, but I don't get that sense from Brady. He taks about his teammates a lot, which is cool, and he's an intense player, which is fun to see on the field. He's also worked hard to be where he is, nothing was handed to him as a late round draft pick, so that's admirable.

Michael Jordon never complained to the referees when the Bulls were manhandling the other team.
Peyton Manning never screamed at the ref when his team was up 30 points.
Tom Brady complained to the refs when his team had a 40 point lead.
That is classless and a joke.
Hopefully Troy Polumalu shows Tom Brady how it feels to be on the IR list.

Well if that's the case then I guess I hate Brady because he's a benificiary of Bill Belichick's system.
He's very expendiable. Any quarterback in the NFL would throw for 30+ touchdowns when he gets time like Brady gets.
What does Brady does is that special? Nothing. Stand in the pocket for 7 seconds and throw the ball to the receivers.
Bill Belichick and his defense made Tom Brady.
Not to mention, 17 of his TD came by just throwing the ball up in the air for Randy Moss to catch.
All this and the cheating.
Tom Brady should have an asterik next to his name at all times.
Tom Brady is a fraud, plain and simple.
How many touchdowns does Peyton Manning throws if he ran up the score? 80?

All I can say to this post is, WOW! I think you must live in Bizarro World, where everything is the exact opposite of what is true in our world.
The Bill Belichick System? Are you talking about the system that had BB's career record at 41-57 before Brady became his QB? And 82-24 with Brady as his QB?
Brady is expendable to the Patriots, huh? I guess water is expendable where you come from, right?
