Williams and Jones, who were both first-round draft picks in 2004, will become unrestricted free agents after next season and sources close to the players say they've had enough and want out.
Wonder if Danny already has his eye on snatching up Roy

It would be nice, but I don't believe we'll have the cap room to land him and fill other areas of need. However, it is possible seeing as the Skins are the masters of cap manipulation.

Roy Williams is a great WR. It's too bad he had to become a Detriot Lion. We can only hope to god that he doesn't go anywhere in the NFC East except the Redskins...then again we probably can't afford him anyways. Gotta pay those millions to Brandon Lloyd to ride the bench.

The one thing you learn about Williams very quickly is that he loves Texas and would love to return to his home state. Williams is a Texas guy and mentions it in nearly every interview and flies back to his home in Odessa to see his young child every chance he gets. If the Lions get two consecutive days off, Williams bolts for Texas. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that, but it shows where his heart is.
You left this part out and I don't like how that sounds at all. Hurry up and sign him Houston. Don't let him go to the Boys

If he wants to return to Texas, after 08', Dallas would make more sense than Houston. He can probably be the #1 option or at the very least 1b cause Owens will be like 36 in 09'. Not to mention Romo > Schuab and for now atleast our franchise is closer to reaching a SB.

And money probably won't be the biggest factor for him, cause he probably could've gone top 3 in the 03' draft but decided to stay at UT for his senior year

We have alot of restructuring to do this offseason. We won't be able to afford him, but in a way, I'm tired of signing these star players. I'd rather try Anthony Mix and sign Bryant Johnson of the Cardinals to be our big possession receiver. No more spending gobs of money on these guys. I can't imagine Detroit just letting him go. They'll franchise him and try to get a 1st and 3rd for him. He's their best receiver right now.

Lordy lordy, my crouch hurts thinking about Roy Williams playing for the Philadelphia Eagles.

I would love to sign Johnson, I think he's a beast...Good player, fairly young with talent and potential. Johnson also flies under the radar....he's exactly the type of player we don't go after.

Don't worry - Eagles will never pay top-dollar for a WR again. :)

Though some have called it a crouch before... that's a long story though, and I'm not into self-promotion.

I am the only one who thinks RW is a little overrated apparently. He makes spectacular plays, and then disappears for stretches. He's a good receiver, but not going to be worth what some team is going to pay him. :2cents:
I love the idea of signing Mix and Br. Johnson. Both young, develop-able players. Both tall, and seem to work hard, love that.

Someone will overpay even more than Snyder will for him.
But if Snyder could, he'd land him. I think the cap will prevent him though.

I'm hoping the Redskins stay away from Free Agency and focus on the draft.

Yes and get a GM which i know wont happen but Please get 2 good pass rushers in this draft. We have had no pass rush for the longest time. Please im begging you. We get 2 pass rushers we become a serious contender for the title.

Exactly, I don't want to go after "sexy" anymore. I want to go after good talent, but not super "look at me" talent. As good of a player Williams is, and a decnet guy off-field (no major problem other than tipping issues), he is not what we should get.
I think the best teams, their awesome players are drafted, with a few FA complements. The free agents then come in to do the middling work, like what Rabach has done for us. The Patriots are obvious. The Packers, look at their WR's and tell me you expected that corps as a whole to be as good as they are. Look at that line, also all drafted, and now they are opening holes for the guy who backed up Julius Jones at ND (Ryan Grant). Then they sign Donald Lee to be the solid TE for them. Nick Barnett and AJ Hawk, both drafted too. The Cowboys, most of them are drafted or like Romo, have spent their full career there. Same with the Colts.
We have given big free agents a shot, we've been giving them chances since 2000. Lets take this team back and continue with the low-key approach adopted in 2006.

I've always had a feeling Williams would end up in a Cowboys uniform someday. The Cowboys would be stupid to not go after him, too. He'd be a perfect fit!

If the Lions drop one more game, they'll miss the 10 win seasons Kitna promised. Now THAT has to be frustrating!

When I saw the Lions get blown out by the Eagles and Redskins (two horrible teams) in consecutive weeks I knew where their season was going. At 6-3 they were the most obvious fraud I can recall in a few years.

the Cowboys will take care of their 10 win hopes this Sunday. :D
after all the trash spewed by Kitna towards Dallas last year, I don't really see him getting sacked less than seven times this week.

I love how this thread started off about Kevin Jones and Roy Williams, yet all the discussion has been all about Williams. Rightfully so, everyone has ignored Jones. He has to be one of the greatest legends in his own mind in sports history.

I think we're gonna be like 30 mil under next year's cap. We do have a lot of our own free agents to re-sign, but it's definately possible to add the other Roy Williams.
URFA- Ken Hamlin, Patrick Crayton, Flozell Adams, Julius Jones and Keith Davis
RFA- Marion Barber, Chris Canty and Jay Ratliff
I think these are the major FAs

I love Roy's ability but signing other team's stars hasn't won us jack.
Forget Roy Williams. Lets just draft our own stud WR.

If I were Jerry, I would do it. I seriously doubt that Detroit Franchises him. They did this with Redding last year and I think they might not be very willing to do this again. After having a lights out season in 06, he has a total of 14 tackles and zero sacks in 07.
In addition, they have just drafted Johnson and signed him to a huge rookie contract. They signed Furrey to a pretty big contract as well. Why Furrey, I don't know but between Reggie Williams, Furrey and Johnson, I don't see them having a great deal of cap to sign Roy to a big contract. They have a multitude of problems on that team and they are going to need to fill holes if they hope to improve.
If it were me, I'd offer Detroit a draft pick for RW this off season. The Cowboys are not going to draft a player the quality of Williams with there 1st round pick. I doubt any other team will be able to afford to give a 1st round pick to get RW so it's a good bet that Detroit would probably be interested in this trade scenario.
That would provide Cap relief for Detroit and give them what they most need, more high picks. The Cowboys will likely lose Terry Glenn's contract after 07. I think that Glenn will probably come back for the end of the 07 season but after that, he will likely have to have Microfracture surgery. I seriously doubt if he will be able to come back from that any time soon, if at all.
To me, that's the way to go on that deal but hey, I wanted to sign Moss too so............
