View Full Version : Condition of the stadium last night was pathetic.

SKINSBABY2005

I went to the game last night and sat in section 448. The condition of the stadium was awfull. Ice on the steps everywhere. Ice in the hall way. As much as we pay to go see this awfull team lose almost every week you would think Snyder could atleast get the stadium in good enough condition so the fans dont have to worry about falling down and breaking their neck.

I even asked one of the ushers if he had a rag to wipe the ice and snow off of our seats and he just laughed at me.

Did anyone else notice this?

You know what else I noticed...it was too damn cold last night, and I was uncomfortable. I'll have to have a chat with God about that one, how dare he allow winter to interfere with our season.

Seriously man, it's a pretty big stadium. I think they did a pretty good job all things considered.

December-7th-2007, 10:30 AM
i didn't really have a problem with my seat being snowy last night. I think the main problem was the stairs being icy as hell, i almost fell so many times. It was really hard to get to the top row where my seats were with stuff in your hands because you'd have to go so slow to make sure you didn't fall. Again i realize that its a big stadium but i think just for safetys sake they should have done a little better job with the stairs.

WOW... You all really got on him. I think he has a perfectly good complaint. You pay that much for tickets to a game you expect not to sit in snow. My buddy was also upset about the conditions. Drove 2 hours to sit in snow. People have a right to complain about that. Ice on the steps? Have you ever been in the 400 section? If you fall you might go right over....Early Storm... is not an excuse. As far as being a man about it. Get real.

I think he has a perfectly good complaint. ... Ice on the steps? Have you ever been in the 400 section? If you fall you might go right over....

The tiled portions of the concourse on Club level was quite slippery which could not be avoided because people were coming out of the stands with wet shoes. Great idea, guys ...

I have no problems with sitting in snow ... had this game been played 24 hours earlier, the snow would still been coming down. I've seen many a highlight from Green Bay and Denver where snow was falling during the game.

The ice on the steps, however, should have been addressed. That's a tragedy waiting to happen.

And I guess I shouldn't be too surprised about the reactions of the upper level usher(s) ... most of the fights break out up there because no one is there, nor does there appear to be a desire to monitor that far up.

I was in section 411. I was jumping up and down during the kickoff, and I slipped on some ice, and fell forward 3 rows and knocked a guy over and spilled his beer. I of course bought him a new one. But the thing that pissed me off was, he and his friend corned me during halftime near a bathroom and asked me if I "Did it on purpose." When I laughed and said "Of course not," the friend of the guy I knocked over got in my face, and asked if I wanted to get beat up. I told him to "bring it." So he grabbed my face and slammed it into the wall. Thats when I tackled him, and security dog piled on us. I had 10 people around me vouching that this moron started it with me, and when the Fedex security persons suddenly turned into real cops, the guy who attacked me suddenly changed his tune and basically started crying when he saw the handcuffs come out. It was so funny, yet so pathetic.

I mean, I actually slipped on the ice, and knocked the guy over, but I apologized and bought him a new beer. There is no need to instigate things further. And I was especially pissed because the guy that attacked me was a SKINS fan! I was wearning my Riggo jersey, and he had a Portis jersey on. How you gonna do that to a fellow fan??

With all the "skin on skin" action last night, FedEx should have handed out condoms.

Thank you, my point exaclty, us fans spend so much money on this team and they cant even get the ice off the steps. Or the ice and snow off the seats. My biggest complaint is with the usher. He was just a jerk that was no assistance to anyone. And he is being paid.

Wow...snow on seats, ice on steps and tile, fights in stands, 8.00 beer, 4.00 coffee...I am sorry I couldn't be there. Instead I had to sit on my leather couch in 70 degree weather, no wind (the wife was out of the room) , walk on dry hardwood floors, and put up with good coffee for pennies, beer for less than 1.00, hi-def on my 50", and the only fight I heard was my daughter scolding the dog in the next room! Life was good...no complaints.

No offense but thats like comparing apples and oranges. So i take it if it rains all the time here someone cant complain.. Oh in England it rains all the time... Seattle...

Yeah, I'm sober at games so it didn't really affect me, but the ice on the steps is a serious safety hazard. I don't give two craps about snow on the seats, that's a comfort issue. However, you cant have an inch of ice on the steps like we did in my section last night. That is just asking for a serious lawsuit.

I was in Section 448 last night too. Don't mind the snow on the seats, or the cold, that is what going to a game in the winter is all about. The stairs were horrible. Would it have been so hard to put a little ice melt or something down to improve the traction? I don't think so. I worry about some of the kids and older people busting themselves up. Maybe it will snow for the Dallas game and we can toss a few down the stairs. "Hey it was slippery, I don't know what happend" ;-> My 2 cents.

The condition of the stadium was awfull. Ice on the steps everywhere. Ice in the hall way.

We do not play in a dome. This happens. Winter in DC. Get over it. Stay home if it's not 70 degrees. Sell your tickets to the local kids at a discounted price so they can afford them... they will enjoy the game snow or not, you arn't completely out of your $$ and you can stay home next to you fire place with a hot toddie in your hand.

As much as we pay to go see this awfull team lose almost every week you would think Snyder could atleast get the stadium in good enough condition so the fans dont have to worry about falling down and breaking their neck.

If you are outraged by the price vs. quality of the show you are recieving then maybe you shouldn't be paying every week..... just a thought.

Did you break your neck? bc if you did then Snyder would be paying for a lot more than just do de-ice th steps for you.

I even asked one of the ushers if he had a rag to wipe the ice and snow off of our seats and he just laughed at me.

I would have laughed at you too..... You can't wipe it off with your sleeve like everyone else?

You guys who think that this poster doesn't have a valid point are being ridiculous. You are probably the same people that come with "This is a Business" crap. In this case it is a business. The names on that business are Fedex and Redskins and when there are dangerous, negligent conditions at the stadium you better for damn sure believe a ticket holder should be pissed. Someone should have to answer for this. It may not be Snyder but why should it take a slip and fall for something to be done. Dan Snyder OWNS this team and he CAN do with it what he wants. Since he has that power he should be up PG County's ******* with a jackhammer making them do what they should.

the county doesn't own the stadium, snyder does. that's why he paid so much for the team and that's why the team is worth so much. the only reason jack kent cooke stuck his stadium out in the middle of nowhere is because they gave him the land to build on. FedEx is a terrible place to watch a game, provides no home-field advantage and is only about 85% full for most games. it's a disgrace and easily the worst "new" stadium in the nfl. snyder would love to go back to dc and i think he will in the next 15 years.

There was some ice under my seat, so when I stood up and leaned back to let ppl by, I slipped and landed right back into my chair. My butt was too numb to feel it anyway!

Anyway, its not like it snowed on Monday and they had days to clear it out. The snow stopped like 24 hours before gametime.

I hope we have the same nasty conditions 12/30 against the Pukes.

I remember going to Memorial Stadium in Baltimore to watch the Os in section 33. The seats were undercover and it was summer but the usher would always escort us to the seats and wipe them with a damp cloth. My father would always tip him a couple of dollars. This level of service at that time was not uncommon in baseball stadiums.

Until last year, I had club seats and the usher was delightful. She always inquired how my wife and kids were doing if they did not attend the game. At the last game of each season she would bring a Christmas card and send some candy for our kids. I would provide her an oversize tip for the year. She came over from RFK and would lament the loss of civility and personasl attention that had occured in stadiums during yesteryear.

It doesn't take much to add that small personal touch.

If they diverted salt from the concessions, $8 beer sales would go down. You'll just have to wear your crampons next time.

Yeah, right ... since they can't complain about a blown lead, something else needs to come out.

I have no issues with the weather, it's an integral part of the game. But fan safety should always be a top priority and if there was ample time to throw down some rock salt on the icy steps, it should have been done.

I know the floors on the Club level were very slick; wish they had put some (regular) salt down to take up the moisture.

I sat next to HOF44, I think it was section 454? There was this guy, not a small guy, tumbled down at least 5 rows of seats. I was paying attention to the field, and heard this BANG-BANG-BANG-BANG and I'm thinking, "Oh **** there's a fight! and somebody got pushed!!" I look over to the left and one row up, and this guy is on all fours trying to get up, blood dripping like a faucet out of his nose. Everybody for about 6 rows up was standing up, just looking at each other. People asked him what happened, but he seemed embarrassed and stunned, and got out of there pretty quick. My guess, is that he tried to move down a row by stepping on the seat right below him (we've all done it before) but in those conditions, not a good move. Who knows. But I'm sure he'll think twice about that again.

I thought that overall they did a good job in such a big stadium. The stairs in the 400s were treacherous, and you had to hold onto the railings for sure. I did feel sorry for the older fans or ones with kids, but if they took their time then they were alright.

BTW I would just love to be at a game while the snow is falling, that would be really cool IMO. Cold and rainy like the Bills, not so much. But the weather is part of the experience, and a dome just wouldn't cut it for me.

As fans we are there to SUPPORT not complain! Well first of all, pointing you in the right direction is in their job description, and they are ushers, they arent your *****, you can wipe your own seat off

That's the kind of **** that is wrong with this country. If you "DO" need help finding your seat the usher could give 2 ****'s whether or not you make it there or not. They're still getting paid right?

And I'm sure that there is a little bit more in their job desription than just pointing a finger, but they try to play the "stupid" card and do as little as possible. Nobody has any respect for anyone anymore, I mean if I was the usher and somebody asked me to wipe his/her seat off, I probably wouldn't do it either, cause that's alot of seats, but I wouldn't laugh at the guy. You would think that handing out rags for people to do it themselves would be the smart thing to do but what do I know.

Do people really have trouble finding their seats? I always thought it was pretty self explanatory. They must have a hell of a time finding there way to the metro or out of the parking lot

Man you don't have anything more to complain about than YOUR standards on a game in an open stadium in December the day after a snow and ice storm. Good lord now I know why people get the bejesus smacked out of them. In the future if you would the next time you even think about going to a game in the winter time and you don't live in Florida or California or Nevada or Texas.....STAY HOME okay. This was by far the most stupidest thread ever and you should be ashamed.

They worked all day trying to get things cleared.

What makes you think this is true?
Lots of people in this thread said the stairs in the uppers were full of ice.

And, of course, if you slip and fall, you can't sue the stadium because of the disclaimer of the ticket saying you enter at your own risk. Plus, having all that ice there means some drunken yahoo may decide to start throwing it onto the field or elsewhere, causing serious injury.

Because the NFL feels there's a better chance of a "quality" game if it's played in 70-degree weather or indoors.

I thought it was in great shape. We tailgated for 5 hours outside, the lot was clear. My seats we clear. The coke and the beer were cold, the coffee and hot chocolate were hot. My only beef was that the cheerleaders were too dressed!

When did the complainers get to the stadium? I got there about 6:45 (section 404) and the workers were putting down salt and ice melt on the stairs all over the stadium from what I could see. At least it looked like a few dozen yellow jackets out and about on the stairways.

I'm guessing when 90k plus people start walking on that it sticks to shoes and such but the stairway by me was clear.

I thought it was a real good game, great stadium experience, less visitors there this time.

I went to this one sick from the Sunday game against Buffalo with a cold, left this one with pneumonia I believe. Wouldn't have given it up for anything. My first Skins snow game.

All I know is that these are some whiney people,If there wasn't ice is would be something else like escalators move too fast or the lights are too brigght or something. This is NFL football and the Redskins are playing the only games worth watching this year in my opinion. They have all been close hard fought games except the one in NE,the Monday night against Philly is the best one of those yet this year, and who will ever forget the Bills game?

I was at the gate at Arena at 1:15 to see the plows leave the lots clear and salted,no one complained about their poor little 3 series Beemers getting bumped into did they? Everyone wants to bust Danny's nuts,I think he's doing better than most would agree to. He didn't come put out my fire pregame or postgame, maybe ya'll cold no stable footed people should have stayed home.
