View Full Version : Can Todd Collins be our Jeff Garcia?

skinsfan07
December-7th-2007, 12:55 PM
simple question. Remember when McNugget went down last season in Philly and Jeff garcia led the Iggs to the playoffs? Do ya'll think Todd will be that guy for us this season?

We have 3 games left, 2 on the road and one at home against playoff teams. Tod is an experienced guy who has been called a "smart" qb. Do you think he can lead us to the playoffs this year, or was yesterday's game just a result of the Bears D not being prepared for him?

I think he may win the last home game b/c Dallas will be resting their starters but that's it. 7-9 will be our final record with 2 crushing road losses. I hope 'm wrong and he can lead us, but I think that once D's can prepare for him, he is just average and we will see that next Sunday at NYG.

BTW, this is a poll....

Can he do it? Of course he can. He wouldn't be on the team if Coach Gibbs didn't think he had it in him. Will he do it? I don't know but I sure am rooting for him. Go get 'em Todd!!!

He knows the system, and he showed last night that he can more than manage the game. Great throws, great decisions, why not?

I'm just afraid that we'll get something going and they'll plug JC back in for the playoffs (I read he's out 4 weeks). I like JC, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it...and it wasn't broke in the 2nd half last night!

good analogy skinsfan

the fact that TC has been in this system for so long is definitely a plus. plus he had great touch and timing on his throws last night.... i cant wait for the giants game

that's only b/c the D wasn't gameplanned for Todd Collins so it was harder for them to stop him. We'll see how well he plays when teams start gameplanning for him.

I hope he does just as well for the rest of the season though but I'm just not as sold as some of you others are.

Man, you guys are really setting yourself up for heart break. He came in and played well for 2 quarters and now you are trying to compare him to Garcia after he has been a probowler and starter for years. A 6 game stretch is alot different then one half of football. I refuse to look at this any other way, I will not build myself up after what I saw last night. I saw a QB that gives defenses alot of time to get to his passes, and I saw a QB who will no doubt be vertically challenged. What happens when defenses get in the face of our WR's and sit on the intermediate routes? Does he have the arm to hit Moss 45 yards down field? If the answer to that question was yes then he would have been a starter somewhere down the line. I'm hoping he plays well but if anyone thinks Todd Collins is the answer to anything, then you will be setup for heartbreak. You have to be rational. We need the running game to show up, and we need to continue to get turnovers to have any chance these last 3 games.

the man thing that is helping us is that todd probably knows that playbook better that Al does. I believe he can probably manage the game well for us if and BIG IF the run game steps up. Our run game will determine wheather or not todd does well.

If we expect Todd to go in there and play like he did last night every week then your sadly mistaken. THere a reason hes been a back up. He can only do so much.

On that note I really hope he can push us to the playoffs. I mean if Brunell can do it then why not Todd.

December-7th-2007, 01:20 PM
i'd say he has the potential to do so. he might not be able to carry the team, but i don't think he will lose the games for us either. he might not do anythin spectacular, but he'll do smart things. so if the team keeps him out of situations the would require him to be spectacular, then we'll be ok. that bein said, even if todd collins wins the superbowl, jason campbell is the future. he's gonna have to learn this stuff sooner or later.

I doubt you would see that. I doubt JC would want that, IF we make it to the playoffs, it will because TC plays well and doesn't make mistakes.

I sure hope so, that little pass to Betts last night was the best offensive play I've seen from this team all year. It is so basic and simple, yet so effective. The hole was there and Collins recognized it, got it out to Betts, and Betts pretty much walked into the endzone. It was beautiful.

We "almost" let them? Didn't we score another TD with 5 minutes left? Didn't we win by a score and a 2 pt. conversion, and hold them to a FG with time running out?

Almost only counts in horse shoes my friend...we won.

TC knows the system and he definitely looked sharp last night. I will be pulling for him thats for sure. Garcia plugged in so well for Philly last year in part because he also knew the system. With that being said Garcia is a former Pro Bowler and TC is a career backup. I guess we will see though. I am just happy to see our guys fight so hard and get a win out of it. I am going to enjoy this one for a little while before I start worrying about the GMen or the paloffs.

No we didn't. Collins and the offense actually scored enough points to where a Bears comeback would have required several big strokes of luck. Not to mention I didn't see Collins out there on D, so I don't think you could say he was responsible for letting them do anything in the first place.

honestly, i'm thinkin maybe, or it's possible. since he didn't have that option up there, i gave TC the benefit of the doubt. but for one, if we let the bears come back, that's not TC's fault, they only started to come back when smoot got hurt and they started pickin on eubanks. not that i would recommend tryin this, but if smoot doesn't go down we can probably trade field goals for the rest of the game and comfortably win. and to piggy back on what Mr. Rdskns4Lyf said, almost only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades.

For the record, by saying "we almost let them come back", I'm not taking a jab at TC, I'm taking a jab at those thinking we have a good shot at the playoffs. We just aren't as good as Philly was last year with Garcia.

The funny thing is, if Collins plays poorly against the Giants, are the fans on this board going to start calling for Brunell? :D

We score at the end of the game against Dallas, Philadelphia, Tampa, New York, and Green Bay and we are sitting at 11-2....

TC looks better with the wimpy passing game then JC. Of our 36 attempts last night, only 5 were down field only about 10 were thrown to WR who were usually running patterns less than 10 yards. Of the 31 attempts that did not go down field, most were due to the fact that we were not even looking down field. Even the handful of check downs we ran were almost always forced by bad protection. If we can't block for the pass and can't get a running game established, you're not going to be able to go down field.

All of those teams are far superior to Chicago, however. ;)

JC needs to get the redzone offense figured out, no doubt, but he can get the ball moving downfield, and has all of the physical tools that TC does not.

I knew nothing about TC before last night...had never heard him talk and I didn't know if he has game...

Seems like a good passer, athlete and he studies and knows how to work the offense well...by his comments to Moss and hitting all types of throws. I lke his attitude and demeanor.

I must say I am very impressed by him and hopeful he will shine for us....

Kudos to Gibbs for having a great back up plan!!!

Somehow transfer TC's football knowledge, quick release, and experience into JC's body. Then we'd have a beast on our hands. :)

The only thing I don't like about Collins is his soft touch throw. It wouldn't take a defense much studying to know when jump on one of his throws and get a pick. I love his quick reads and releases and the fact that it allows Saunders' system to actually..well..execute.

Can someone please tell me what is wrong with having hope? If anyone is wondering why the Redskins haven't been very good lately it might have something to do with all of the negativity like this that's being projected towards them.

Is it really that much to ask that you just root for the guy and have a little hope? Gosh!

Not likely true. Arizona had a chance to WIN the game after the onside kick (probably a 50-50 prop after the onside kick). If the Bears got the onside kick, they would have had to score a TD in two or three plays (a much lower probability than what Arizona needed). If they made the TD, they'd have to go for two (maybe a 60% chance) and take their chances in OT which is another 50-50 proposition.

Plain and simple it is the fear of being let down. Since I have always been let down by the Skins, I am used to it and still retain hope :D

I've had plenty of hope all season, and I've been let down repeatedly. It's one thing to have hope in something competent, but come on...it's the 2007 Redskins. :( A good team that, no matter how talented they are as a whole or how far they get ahead in a game, they still find a way to lose.

This is the worst year I've ever had as a Redskins fan.

We've all been let down by them at some point. It's not like I just became a fan yesterday and have yet to experience a let down. I just don't see it as a reason for people to be so mean. It's not just pessimism, some of it's just flat out mean.

People saying that Todd sucks and that the season is over because the Redskins can't win with Todd. Well how do they know that? Why would they right him off so quickly, especially after he played so well for us last night?

There was a time in my life when I was a pretty mean spirited and pessimistic person. Luckily I've grown up a lot over the years and have totally changed my outlook on things and it really does work. And not just in life, but it works with football, too.

I have faith in them. I have faith in the players and coaches. I have faith that as long as they give they're best effort, they'll always come out on top.

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I'm betting Brunnel gets the next start. Call me crazy if you want, but he's got more game experience. And if he performs well I can't think of a better way to drive his trade value up to help our cap situation out next year.
