The first President was George Washington - how can you get that wrong? Unless Mick is right, and its some sort of play on words like the "King" one.

I googled it - and it was a trick question. The first president under our current constitution and governmental structure was Washington. The other guy was during the Articles of the Confederation. :silly:

The $1 bill does not say he was the first president. Hell, it doesn't even say he was a president at all.

John Hancock is wrong.
Actually, John Hancock is right--according to some points of view. :)
John Hanson was the first president under the Articles of Confederation, but is that really the country we know today? I would argue that the USA of today began under the Constitution, which makes George Washington our first president. And our commonly accepted numbering system (in which Bush is the 43rd president) agrees with me.
John Hancock was president of the Continental Congress before the signing of the Articles, right after the Declaration.

Name the President who was born in Canada, and thus not eligible to be President by US law....
Chester A. Arthur was VP and President, and claimed to have been born in Fairfield, Vermont, a town in the northwest corner of the state near the Canadian border. But Chester A. Arthur was never able to produce a birth certificate documenting his birth.
Many historians believe Arthor was actually born just over the boarder in Canada, at his mother's parents house in Quebec. Thus Chester A. Arthur would have been ineligible to hold either the VP office or the Presidency.

There is a funny story behind this Picture. Elvis was in Washington trying to get in to see Hoover. He wanted the FBI to deport the Beatles to clear the way for him to revive his career. No joke. J. Edger Hoover who knew what Elvis wanted, didn't want any part of the scheme, and wouldn't take the meeting. A presidential advisor was driving passed the FBI building and saw Elvis's enterage. He informed Nixon, and Nixon sent word that he would meet with Elvis.
That's how this picture came into being. Don't believe me, petition the FBI for the Elvis file under the Freedome of Information Act. True story.
One other Elvis story. It seem the DEA gave Elvis a badge and presented him a title of honorary DEA agent at some press conference for his help against illegal drug use. Elvis liked to carry this badge and identify himself as a federal agent. On one occassion Elvis was running late for a plane. He got to the gate and the plane was pulling away. Elvis pulled out his DEA badge and said, I'm a federal agent and I need that plane to return to the gate.
Two FBI agents met the plane when it landed and informed Elvis that he wasn't a real federal agent and was not authorized to use his badge in this manor. They confiscated his badge, no charges we pressed. True Story..

Why George Bush is really our 42nd President, not our 43rd President!!!
Earlier in this thread it was claimed incorrectly that George Washington was not America's first president because we had a leader under the Articles of Confederation before the Constitution who was not counted.
That got me thinking. George W. Bush is claimed to be our 43rd President. But he isn't. He's actually our 42nd President.
The reason being that Grover Clevland is counted twice having been elected to two non consecutive terms. He's our 22nd and 24th president. If we count him only once as all other multi term presidents, ( two terms and four terms) then George W. Bush would be #42.

Did George come back from the dead to get that rank?
Nope, he got it postumously awarded from Jimmy Carter. After the bicentenial folks were thinkiing George needed a promotion to six stars to keep him as the highest ranking American military officer. So George got the promotion in 1978 from two stars to six. This matched Pershing and Dewey, and top Eisenhower, MacAurther, Bradly and Marshal and the rest.
