View Full Version : Ebay Help! Got ripped off

Just wondering if anyone has ever been ripped off by someone on Ebay. Bought my wife a Juicy Couture purse for Christmas. No sooner than myself and a few others paid for our merchandise the person canceled their account. Prior to canceling they corresponded back and forth in regards to several questions we had and then it stopped. When my wife called the contact number we received from Ebay there was no answer. The bag showed up Monday and instead of coming from NJ like the profile stated it came from China. Immediately upon looking at it you can tell it's a fake. Not even a good fake at that. Then today I get a call from a guy who's name was on the account. He was wondering why my wife had left so many voice mails on his mothers phone for him. Evidently someone had used his name and phone number to open an Ebay account.

So, what if anything can be done through Ebay? Has anyone else ever experienced this? We paid with Paypal so can we recoup what we paid? If this has happened to someone I'd appreciate a little insight as to what to expect. Thanks in advance ES'rs and beware of these sumbitchs.

Also, my wife won a Juicy Couture diaper bag and when she called the guy he told her it was real then she started doing some research to find out what all comes with the diaper bag like a changing pad, burp cloth and what not. She called him back and he kept hanging up on her. Finally he sent her an email and all but said his wife bought it thinking it was real, turned out it was fake and he was trying to resell it. What a knob! So you get ripped off and decide to turn around and rip someone else off. I don't think I'll ever ebay again.

Hey:

File a claim with Paypal right away. Also let eBay know and file a complaint with them. They may have more information on them.

Don't do business with anyone on eBay who isn't at 99% and who hasn't has at least 100 sales. Still, there are people out there who will rip you off.

If Paypal or eBay don't have any more information on the person then you might be screwed. But that's where I'd start.

Since you paid through PayPal, you should file a "significantly not as described" claim and since they sold you a fake, PayPal will most likely give you your money back. When you open a claim, be sure to respond to their emails. PayPal takes a while to make their final decision, but in the end you will have to send the item back with your expenses for a full refund. Good luck!

I just bought a laptop that the lady waited a month to mail to me. I thought I had been ripped off but everything is good now.

But I have a friend who has to use my Ebay account because someone used his account to sell $1500 Mountain Bikes that didn't exist. He began receiving ugly e-mails from people wanting their bikes that he didn't sell. Ebay closed his account and he can't get another one. I was on the Auburn message board a few months after that when someone posted about getting ripped about a mountain bike. They still didn't believe that it wasn't my friend who sold it.

Wrong forum (as you stated), but one of the problems I wish Ebay would solve is the location of MERCHANDISE. False claims thinking you'll get it quicker if you buy from them. They should send warnings to these overseas sellers to get it right or be cut off.

I tried filing a complaint through ebay and got the "you must wait 10 days" message. Filed through Paypal and haven't heard anything back yet. This whole ebay thing has gotten scandalous. Before this last purchase I had bought about 9 items through ebay and had nothing but excellent results. I don't know if it's the type of merchandise being that handbags are so easily counterfitted or what. I just want to get my $82 bones back.

Honestly I don't know why a woman would want to go out and buy a juicy cooter bag anyway. I don't understand the handbag thing at all.

It's a status thing. That is why I hate style channels and the like. If the rich have it they need to have it to feel worth something.

I say eff it buy a purse at Wal-Mart for $20 and spend the other $62 on something meaningful.

You might also call up your credit card company and challenge the charge. After all, they did not fulfill the contract you made through ebay.

I wish I had an anwser for you. I buy $20 handbags, and within 3-5 months they somehow manage to get dirty. I guess having an expensive handbag is a status thing. I think it's BS. I'd rather have the extra dough to spend on something I'll really enjoy. A game, a date out with the girls, a new haircut... but that's just me.

Well, the wifey doesn't ask for anything else that's too expensive so I guess she's allowed one guilty pleasure. She typically passes on expensive things and chooses instead to spend money on her three babies. She's just into handbags, don't ask me why.

Ebay used to be a great place to buy and sell 2-3 years ago but now it appears to just be overrun with fraud and shady sellers.

Thus the reason, I have never bought anything on EBay.

I have never trusted the set-up. Scammers Paradise.

And why would you buy a purse there to save a few bucks ? Geez.

If your looking for a designer handbag, rolex watch, authentic autographs you don't buy them on the street corner in NYC nor do you buy them on EBay.

My mother just got a notice from Sams club that a PRADA bag she bought there was fake and Sams Club would refund her money.

Don't dog ebay, its an open marketplace. You want an "authentic" for the price of a "fake" well then all I can say is buyer beware. You want an authentic? Go to a department store.

Chipwich is right .... Ebay is a buyer beware community. I've purchased a few things off of ebay - but never purses.
Fake purses are all over the place - internet, stands in the mall, farmers markets, and even in major stores (Sam's club). I'll never buy a handbag without seeing it.

Hopefully you get your $$$ back.

Luckily the challenges do often get resolved fairly. In my experience, the two disputes I have been involved in were handled well by Paypal.

But what if you are a new buyer OR seller ? How do you break the ice to get some good feedback ?

I guess for sellers it just takes time to build up all the feedback. Even if you have only sold 20 items and there was no negative feedback that still looks good.

paypal should be able fix any problems though. If the bought item is not as described then you should get your money back. My wife bought a Nancy Drew book on Ebay a few months back. It was described as a first edition first printing, but when it arrived we found out it was not what it was described to be. But in our case, the seller actually gave our money back and we shipped the item back to them.

Capitol Grille, Vidalia, or Galileo ? And how do you know that I love Silver Oak ? I know we have talked about wine and such... but damn. Hmm...

But again how do you build that rep ?

Thanks for the info ES'ers, my wifey is filing a complaint through Paypal. I'll let you all know how it works out. Needless to say we won't be buying handbags on Ebay again.

Kosher, I wouldn't call $120+ a few dollars. Dem damn bags are outrageous.

It's not hard to build up a reputation. I've started selling on ebay...things like cell phones, guitars, and other knick knacks. There are people who will bid. Just make yourself accessible and easy to work with.
