About NY Jets: “The players tried. They did as they were told, played hurt, hung together and never broke ranks, unless you count Coles' campaigning for a renegotiated contract, conduct unbecoming a captain whose club still had a game to play.” http://www.newsday.com/sports/football/jets/ny-sphow315521199dec31,0,3198743.column

I read this and thought that our front office definitely deserves some kudos for that trade. Probably Gibbs realized that Coles never be happy, always whining and asking for more money, and he not just got reed of him but got the great player and great person in return. He and Snyder took a lot of … for this trade from media, but what a great move it was.

But he did make the offensive AND defensive plays of the year in '04. Both against the Seahawks..

I can only judge from what I saw on the field, but I thought he was a really tough guy who gave more effort than a lot of players on the team at that time.

I liked the guts Coles showed as a Redskin. He took a real beating.

That said he turned into a $ whore and I was thrilled when they got rid of his arse. The Jets deserve whatever crap Coles gives them.

Coles was a jackass here and I don't miss his .02 YAC.

He didn't give up when a Seahawk made an interception and he forced a fumble right before the Seahawk went in for a TD. This was under Spurrier.

I also don't care for Coles off the field, but you can't take anything away from his play. Even under Gibbs, I remember two plays:

First play was against the Eagles when the Redskins offense was stagnating (what a surprise). He made a key catch across the middle and got JACKED UP. But Coles just popped right back up and signaled a first down and the crowd went crazy. Too bad we lost in the end.

Second play was the final play against the Cowboys in the second game. Made a clutch catch but failed to get about five more yards that would've made the ensuing winning field goal good...

What was amazing to me is that caught 90 balls his last year here and was complaining that he wasn't getting the ball enough. Hey, if you are a playmaker and get that many touches and do less than most players with the same amount of touches, perhaps you weren't as good as you thought you were. I liked Coles until he started complaining about how many balls he wasn't getting. I think that he got more when Gibbs came in vs. Spurrier. I think that he had more yards. They used him in a lot those slip screen plays that we used for Santana. Funny how Santana became the all time receiving leader in yards that year because of those plays.
