View Full Version : Celtics vs. Wizards

I'm actually nervous about this game tonight. The Celtics took the Bobcats lightly and look where that got them.

I really hope we don't take the Wizards lightly and that we learned a lesson from the Charlotte game.

Good luck tonight! :)

I don't think that's a "shocker".

The Celts have been mediocre since they beat Detroit, mostly due to Rajon Rondo and Kendrick Perkins.

Glen Davis has come up big for us, but he's 6'8" backing up Kendrick. Scot Pollard needs to see more minutes at center, and probably replace Kendrick in the lineup as a wake up call.

Kendrick has 7 technical fouls. Last night against New Jersey he had 1 point and 4 rebounds. He's decent defensively, dead weight offensively. If you guys can contain Allen, I think you have a good shot. Pierce and Garnett can't do it alone, and although I like both Rondo and Perkins, they're not where they need to be developmentally.

I don't think the Celtics are going to lose this game tonight. But I sure as hell wouldn't be shocked if they dropped this one tonight to the Wizards. The Wiz are a good young team.

Or what about Ray Allen wasn't playing that game and the Celtics are nowhere near 30-4 without him?

Still better than the Wizards.

I don't take shots at other people's teams. Take one at mine and I'll respond, though.

Who's your team? I know it can't be the Wizards since they don't play up in Rochester. How's the weather up there by the way, it's pretty good here in the DC area.

Uhhh... As implied by the thread...

And by my reaction to your Celtic post...

The Celtics.

And what's the point about not playing up in Rochester? I can like whoever I please.

Redskins, Hurricanes, Celtics, Sabres, Orange.

But thanks for the concern.

And PS: I love the weather up here.

Excellent performance. This team is learning to play D when it matters. We are giving up over 7 less PPG this season. It's great to imagine how good we'll be when Arenas returns hopefully no earlier than the playoffs. I wouldn't even play him until the playoffs, no need to screw around.

1) Go Wiz. DeShawn Stevenson is playing like a man possesed, and is once again making Ernie Grunfeld look like a basketball genius for keeping him and getting a #1 pick for Navvaro. (a #1 pick that just might be top 10 if the grizzlies keep up their miserable pace)

2) To the people hating on the guy from Rochester...come on now. I live in Baltimore for school, shoud I have trashed all my skins gear and started cheering for the sh*tbirds? Except in rare cases like Green Bay, region does not denote fanbase. This is America...cheer for whoever you want for whatever reason you want. Just don't be a fair weather fan or anything like that!

The goal should be to get a top 6 seed in the playoffs. I think with a healthier Gil, this team can take anyone besides the Celts and the Pistons in a 7 game series.

Yes, because there's a whole lot to cheer for up here.

For the record, Boston is 6 and a half hours from where I live. As is DC.

The next closest major sports city other than Buffalo is Cleveland. Followed by... Boston, DC and NYC and Baltimore all about the same distance.

And I've been to see every single one of my teams play, in person.

by the way, thank you, The End.

Oh and Wizards fans, congratulations! Big win for you guys!

See you Monday :)

New York Knicks....a team in New York and definitely closer to Boston, you ignorant bandwagoner.

No, real fans pick the teams they like because they aren't mindless drones that only cheer for who they're supposed to. If someone lives in DC and CHOOSES to cheer for all the DC teams, more power to them. It's none of my business who they choose to root for. Or why they chose them. As long as they enjoy being a fan, who are YOU to tell anyone who they can or can't cheer for?

Tell me when you've been to many Redskins or Wizards games that I have, watched on TV in my LOCAL MARKET and get exclusive Redskins coverage up there

There's this thing called the internet. It's great for getting coverage of my teams. Oh and bars. I haven't missed a Redskin game in 5 years.

in Rochester boy.

Next time I'm at a 'Skins game, come call me boy to my face. Seriously.

I can't go to Boston? What are you, slow? It's called a car. Or maybe even a plane. Wowwie! I cheer for my teams through thick and thin. Bangwagoner?

Right. Because the Redskins have been phenominal. I have a Redskin tattoo on my arm for the **** of it. The Celtics? Yup. Bandwagon. Nevermind that my Dad has always been a fan of both those teams, or that the C's have stunk for the last ten years. I didn't include them earlier, but the Nationals are my baseball team. Definite bandwagoner. The Sabres? They blow... 9 losses in a row. The Hurricanes? Not even Bowl Eligible this year. The Orange? They go 2 deep on their bench and got beat by a bad Cincinatti team, it's not looking like a bright future for them.

Hey, it may. I'm not impressed with Perkins in the least bit. We need work at the 5, I'm hoping we can grab a Hibbert type center in the draft next year :) But I know he won't be available at the last pick of the draft :)

Excellent game by the Wiz. Good luck Monday, man.

My point is, I don't care who you're a fan of, or where you're from. You have a right to cheer for whoever the hell you want without some punk kid speaking where they have no business speaking.

I don't think I said anything contrary to what you said. It's great you cheer for all of your home teams. I take NOTHING away from you for picking those teams (or those teams being picked for you).

There is no such thing as a fan that's better than another fan just based on geography. I bet I know more about alot of my teams than alot of people in their home markets know. But so what?

As long as you're loyal, I don't think it matters in the least. And every indication points to you being loyal. Good for you! That's awesome.

Well, as I stated before, I think a lot can be said for a person who supports the place that in a way "gave birth to you". Your hometown usually shapes who you are and in some ways you are indebted to it. They need your support and you turned your back on them. I'm curious to know, why? Somewhere along the line, you either jumped on the bandwagon of an out of town team or you turned your back on your original team. I would guess that you have not been a celtics fan as soon as you were old enough to actually support a team.

Being a fan of your hometown is taking the high road. You take what was given to you and you suffer and celebrate with those teams.

That's ridiculous.

I don't HAVE a hometown team. It's tough to support them.

The Buffalo Bills would be considered my hometown team, but I knew who the Redskins were before I knew who the Bills were. My father (who also never lived in DC and has lived in Rochester his whole life) is a die-hard Redskin fan. That's what I was exposed to as a child. The Redskins. Over and over again.

The same can be said for the Celtics, though my love for basketball is FAR and away bypassed by my love for football. Basketball wise, there are no teams here, no even close, really. Toronto is the closest, but they aren't a team I really care for.

Baseball there is no one either.

Hockey is the Sabres. I just got into hockey a few years ago, and I chose them because they ARE close to home. Hockey is the sport I care least about, however.

College football I'm a Hurricane fan. I always wanted to go to the U and I couldn't (financially and responsibility wise). I LOVE their football tradition, and I think that became a factor in why I liked them. If you look at my teams, ALL of them (minus the Nats) are steeped in tons of tradition. I respect that kind of thing, I also feel all my teams 'did it the right way'. But that's a trend I've noticed recently and not really a reason for why I've chosen the teams I have.

The Orange for basketball simply because my family loves them and now so do I.

You can say "cheer for the New York teams, that's where you live" but that's not really true. New York City is a good 6 and a half hours from here. The same distance as a DC or a Boston. New York City and Upstate are entirely different as well. It's not the same. We share a name as a state, but nothing else, really.

Did you know in pro football there's only ONE team that's actually IN New York? Yup, the Bills. Had my Dad not introduced me to the 'Skins early, I probably would have wound up a Bill fan, but thank god for me, he did.

Once I pick a team, I stick with them. I've never turned my back on ANY of my teams. When I pick a team, that's my team. I stay with them through thick and thin.

I do the same thing you do. I stick with my team. I feel like I CAN'T change my team even if I wanted to. I get what's given to me, and I'd never turn my back on a team.

You can say what you want, but please... Never question my fanhood or loyalty or character. I don't take the easy path through life, I never have. I don't pretend to know you, so don't pretend to know me. We all have different values. Because I cheer from teams that aren't from Rochester, that doesn't make you a better fan than me. It also doesn't make me better than you.

DoGood28
January-13th-2008, 08:24 PM
I think you are taking hometown too literally. Obviously, there is not a team for every town in the country. Therefore, I consider a hometown team as one that is instate. If there is not one for a particular sport in the state, one should choose the nearest team as with the Orioles, pre-Nationals. But again, this is all my opinion as you have your own. I'm just using a message board as intended.

All this home team stuff is really just a way for one fan to stick his chest out and say..I am a better fan then you..ridiculous really.

I am currently in Baltimore...but was born in raised in P.G. County...does this mean I should be a Raven fan now? I think I'd rather jump off a ship into a sea of sharks who haven't eaten for a week.

I didn't ignore anything. I already addressed your post in my previous ones. You just responded with your own point of view. I'm not trying to convince you of anything. I shared my view and that is that. I've already determined that this is a stalemate as we each disagree.

Let the guy root for who he wants....as long as people stick w/their teams I can respect that even if their team is the enemy.

Celtics are a good team...very good team in fact. I think the Wiz/Celts game on Saturday had something to do with both of them playing the 2nd of back to back games. Wiz had the overtime game @ATL on Friday and the Celts were in NJ....Wiz got the better of the Celtics Saturday but I have a feeling the Celts will have revenge on their mind tonight in Boston.

I think Boston wins tonight by 10...hopefully Im wrong.
