First of all, how stupid are these Kentucky residents.
Second and I know this is pretty much a cliché, but other than the ALF, they are the most effed up animal rights group in the entire world. There are some PETA members who would blow up a school to save a gerbil.
Great cause + insane people = chaos

Has anyone here ever been around chickens? Left to themselves, they get eaten by other animals, hit by cars, kill each other (rarely) and live short lives. Chickens, simply put, serve no other purpose than to provide eggs and meat to other animals.

that has always been my stance. Same with cows, besides milk and beef, they have NO purpose

that has always been my stance. Same with cows, besides milk and beef, they have NO purposeCows can actually be used for farming purposes. Dairy cows serve no purpose other than producing milk. But you can use bulls in the same way you can use oxen. But chickens serve no purpose other than feeding other species. And if you lop a chickens head off, it will run around just like it did before for a long time. It is freaky being chased by a headless chicken! (this will no doubt find its way into the Taken out of Context thread. )

Is this supposed to be justification to cut off their beaks, stuff so many of them in cages they can't move, and otherwise torture them thier whole lives? I don't think so. PETA may be bat**** insane and chickens amazingly stupid, but torturing animals is still wrong.

Neither KFC or their parent corporation tortures animals.

A chicken in a cage can't hurt itself or get eaten by a coyote or a wild dog. They are perfectly content to sit in the cage and lay eggs. Seriously. Pecking the ground for scratch or sitting in a cage, they do not understand the difference.

I'm very familiar with how both those companies operate. I'm not a big fan of stuffing birds with so many drugs to stimulate growth that their lungs and hearts can't sustain their bodies past around 45 days of life (at which point they are slaughtered). Nor am I a fan of the fact these chickens never see the out doors and are kept in cramped pens with toxic ammonia levels and totally ignored if injured, instead being left to starve to death in their own waste.

Or fattened up so much that their legs can't hold their body's weight and break.
Seriously, nobody can claim with a straight face that any factory farm for chickens (or any other animal) isn't cruel and inflicts major pain and suffering on these animals. The reason why PETA and other animal activists produce so much venom and backlash is that people suspect this is true, but don't want to really confront these facts because then they'd have to think about their diet in ways they'd rather not do.
As Ralph Waldo Emerson said: "You have just dined; and however scrupulously the slaughterhouse is concealed in a graceful distance of miles, there is complicity."
Or for a more logical argument, how about Leo Tolstoy: "A man can live and be healthy without killing animals for food; therefore, if he eats meat, he participates in taking animal life merely for the sake of his appetite. And to act so is immoral."
I will step down from my soapbox now. I normally don't preach about this, but those earlier posts suggesting that a Tyson's factory farm would show good treatment of their chickens are just flat out wrong.
