Check out these pics of the under construction stadium (http://www.pacersdigest.com/apache2-default/showthread.php?t=36125)
This place looks absolutely massive. Some of the shots were breathtaking.
Very impressive!

Wow looks pretty impressive. It's not quite as enclosed as their current one though, might that affect the noise level?

wow what a ****ty stadium
the fans are so far away from the action.
The lower bowl is like a good 10-15 feet above
it looks small capacity though, the seats seem very, very, spread out.

Well for starters its not done yet...
There appears to be so much extra room at field level because the lower bowl isn't even fully formed yet. And it will hold 65,000, not big by todays standards but Indy isn't exactly a large market team.

Who are you kidding, its Indy, the noise is artificial!
The roof is retractable like in Arizona and Houston and soon to be Dallas. Theres also a really cool giant retractable window that faces downtown Indy.

Looks like a sweet stadium, and it'll have character...something FedEx sorely lacks. :(

The architects did a nice job. The windows add a great affect. It has some similarities to the stadium the Jets proposed in Manhattan two years ago. Theirs would have gone waaay over the cost of this one.

I didnt know it was retractable. I thought it was just another dome.

No surprise. The "new" stadiums keep getting nicer & nicer..
Funny how FED EX is only coming up on 11 years and it's a dinosaur already. :D

I htink retractable domes are a waste. I've been to the Caridnals Stadium...the retractable part (when it's actually opened) is really just a small hole in the roof. You can't see any sky line and all it does is cast a a stupid shadow over part of the field and part of the stands.
They spend all this cash to make it retractable and it's opened up like twice a year...
In Indianapolis, the lower bowl seems very small...

Didn't their kicker have some streak, about never missing a FG at the Colts stadium ? If so, I wonder if he can carry over the magic. Or was that a previous kicker ?

you were right, it was vinatieri. but i think he missed there earlier this season. that was his first miss ever i believe, as either a pat or a colt. his stats for this year show he missed 1 fg at home against the pats, and 2 at home against the chiefs.
i knew he missed 2 against SD, but that was in SD. i thought it was at home.

it looks small capacity though, the seats seem very, very, spread out.it is a small capacity for most stadiums. it will sit 63k, but will be expandable to 75k, not sure how that works.
but it is an improvement from where they are now, which seats only 57,980
though it baffles me why they only added a little over 5k more seats...

This makes you think what kind of crazy out of this world design Snyder will pick for his stadium.

It probably has more luxury boxes, im guessing. Overall nicer amenities. Plus, as another said, its not like Indy is a major market. 63K seems about right.

Definitley, stadium architects, engineers, and designers are creating works of art. Gone is the day of the cookie cutter stadium. These buildings are works of art and they seem to take on the personality of the teams that play in them.

Who the hell came up with the horseshoe seat thing? You end up with seats isolated from any other person except for those behind you.

Very nice! A stadium with personality and identity. And overall, from the pics, it looks beautiful so far.
Retractable roofs seem to be a waste sometimes. However, if you have one, it's more of a possibility that your team may get a Superbowl. It seems like that's pretty much a big reason why people get one anyway.

I don't get the retractable roof either. If you've got a design that's basically a dome, just make it a dome! If the design is not an open air stadium to begin with, what is the big advantage of creating a little opening in the roof?
I guess I'm just a Neanderthal because I don't get the whole "character" thing at all. People are there to watch a contact sport, not a tea party. A stadium should hold as many fans as possible, give them a comfortable (not pretty) level of amenities, and try to give everyone the best view possible. A lot of people would disagree, but I think FedEx Field is pretty good as far as what a stadium should be. The 200 level obstructed seats are are a flaw, and there could be more escalators, but it's not that bad. I don't count acoustics because I think it's mostly a problem of the fans if 90,000 people can't be noisy enough.

Makes me want a new stadium. Fed Ex is already decomposing b/c of the concrete used on it.

It's really amazing that humans can design and build something so massive and complex...I'm always in awe of stuff like that.
