If anyone knows of any tripods that you can fold up really small with retractable legs or anything similar to that can you please post that info?
ES Members always come through!
Going to visit friends out west in the spring and some days when they're at work my wife and I will be sightseeing on our own. And while I've done some great 10 second timer photography before (sitting it on a rock or tree stump), I don't want to leave this trip to relying on a rock or a tree stump.
Thanks board!

How small are you looking for?

Looking for something that maybe you can put in a little bag. Like a sunglass bag. I don't even know if such a thing exists! But something that I can carry around and it not be much of a hindrance in our walking around.

I've used a digital camera to take pics of my tripod before.

I use this one and love it: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VRMKMI
It's probably not as small as you'd like, but it's really light and quite versatile in various situations.

The mini tripods I've seen don't really extend their legs that much and are more for stabilization or taking timed photos.
So, if thats what you're looking for, just search "mini tripods" and you'll get some results.

Oh, man! That looks so ridiculous!! But after looking at all the situations it's used in, even wrapped around tree limbs, it might just be worth a shot! It looks easily small enough to carry in a back pack. About how big would you say it is?

That thing is hideous! And a little scary if you know what I mean.

When the legs are straight, it's about 5 inches long. Big enough to not fit in small bags, but small enough to carry around in your pocket while taking pictures.

These come in various sizes and work very well. You can just fold and wrap the legs around any object at hand for those self portraits.

I have a Sima St-10T I just took a picture of it next to a pepsi can, it's about 4 or 5 inches folded. I think I got it at Microcenter, but I just saw that amazon has them.
