This is pretty exciting for me as I'll be launching a new sports talk show this Wednesday, 1/30 at 8 pm-9 pm. Though it could be longer or shorter give or take cos I have a two hour time slot. I don't know if I can fill it up.
You can listen to it here (http://msmary.edu/inside/academic-departments/communications/wmtb/index.html) preferably using Internet Explorer. If you're within the Emmitsburg/Gettysburg/Thurmont area, be sure to dial in at 89.9 FM.
I've done a radio show before last semester it'll be my first time doing a talk show. So any tips? My format will be all of the sports headlines with a lot of local stuff mixed in.
I'll also be taking any sports related questions as well and will be reading them on the air. I also need suggestions for a name. The winner gets the joy of knowing he/she has named my show! So tune in.

Take a lot of callers, everyone loves listening to callers, because then they can call in to and complain about the previous caller, will fill that show up in no time.
What is your first and last name? We can make a show title up from that.
Unoriginal but **** it :p

I really want to take a lot of callers. But I'm afraid some dude is gonna do something the FCC might fine me for. Plus I don't have a producer or a side kick, I'm a one man band so I have to do everything myself.
FOr the name? Well the name is J.R.. I don't want to do anything Dallas related. :dallasuck

If you are looking for a talk show host to check out I can recomend one. Steve LaVeille does a local (50, 000 watts) show out of Boston. Five nights a week, five hour shifts. Sometimes he has a topic, but most nights its open forum. Since most shows on radio are sterile syndicated garbage its nice to hear someone wing it. Thats what makes call in shows fun, the unpredictability of your callers. On the internet he is at 1030WBZ.com midinght to five. When it comes to Sports talk radio Ken Beatrice was the best. That dude had his head crammed with stats. Now with the internet anyone can sound like they know what they are talking about. Good Luck, I cant really help you with a name, all I could come up with (since your slot is short) was Sports Shorts. But that sounded like a tag for underarmour.

Good luck in your endeavor. This will probably be one of the most exciting times for your career.
I have to second the call in. It makes it different from the Stephen A Smith and Collin Cowherd (sp?) BS you hear. You don't want to go on and on about nothing. The callers will liven up the audience, give you new topics to discuss, and get your listeners to think outside of the box.
Sorry I don't have any advice for names. I've always been awful at that. See the name to the left <-----

Thanks for the comments and the advice guys.
For the call in idea, I want to do it, I want to integrate the listeners some way but I talked to the station manager and she said we can't allow callers on air because we don't know what they'll say.
So yeah if you want to say something on air, you'll have to do it here I suppose.

Have PB and a stripper on your show to talk football. Call it the PB and the Stripper segment.
