View Full Version : What does the NFC East mean to you?

A great deal of posters on this site are fans of one of the four teams that belong to the NFC East. To me, at least, the NFC east is one of the most unique and character filled divisons in the NFL. Though we hate each other, we're, at the same time, proud of where we're from. When you think NFC East football, what comes to mind?
To me, it's rough and tumble football. I think old school, in your face, aggressive ball that harkens back to another time. Case in point: The Giants game play in Super Bowl XXV. In the second half of that game, the Giants offense held on to the ball for an ungodly amount of time, running the Bills ragged ; the way offensive football should be played.

I think, historically, the NFC East has been the most consistently competitive divisions in the NFL. The Eagles had a golden opportunity to capture a title while the rest of the NFC East teams were in a down cycle. Now, at least for the forseeable future, every year will be up for grabs.

Two words-EXTREMELY competitive.

Yes-I agree, there's alot to be proud of being in this division-which is why I generally root for our rivals in the playoffs, and is probably a rare time all of us NFCE fans can unite and make everyone proud.

Here's the downside though-all 4 teams in this division will end up beating up on each other, to the point where some **** flavor of the month NFC North team or that HUGELY overrated Seattle team can rack up HFA due to their incredibly cupcake schedules.

Agreed with the competitive comments. This is one of the most successful divisions in football. 10 Super bowls and 18 Conference titles. That's tough to go up against. Furthermore, there's so much history in the division; especially with the Giants, Redskins, and Eagles. These are teams that have been in the league for over 70 years, and (as much as I hate to admit it) Dallas has had an amazing amount of success over the past 40 plus years.

You don't get too many Super Bowls between an appearance from an NFC East team.

19 of the 42 Super Bowls have had the NFC represented by a team from the NFC East.

That says it all. As much as we hate each other, I'd never want to see the Skins in another division. The Eags, Gints, and Boys are irritating, but they're all teams that other teams aspire to equal. I might be wrong, but I think the current NFCE teams might have more championships between them than any other division.

I think it means the Epic Fail of 11 endlessly childish sock-puppet cowboy fans who represent their NFCE team by perpetually exhibiting this devlopmental/behavioral disorder and addiction to ES.

Cowboys - 5
Eagles - 3
Giants - 7
Redskins - 5
---------
Total - 20

Bears - 9
Lions - 3
Packers - 12
Vikings - 1* They won the NFL Championship game, and earned a berth to Super Bowl IV which they lost to the AFL Chiefs 23-7. This was all pre-merger.
Adding the Vikings Championship, the NFC North has 25 Championships.

If you're just going by Super Bowls, then it's the NFC East with 11.

It means our schedule is hard as hell every year regardless of how we finish, so we may as well finish high. I actually like watching NFC East teams play even if it's not against the Skins.

I was actually about to type a similar view on the NFC North but had no facts to back it up. First off, great stat prior Tom about the East and championship games.

I've always had a thing about teams from the NFC North; but more for the teams or individuals than the records. Green Bay and Brett Favre (OK, and a few Super Bowls), Lions with Barry Sanders, most recent Bears' appearance in the Big Show and classic 'Da Bears' SNL skits..... and Minnesota.... well Minnesota has Adrian Peterson and we'll leave it at that.

Best Division in Football. PERIOD.

Cowboys? 5-3 Redskins? 3-2 Giants? 3-0 Eagles? 0-2  .

The North was good back in the day.

The Packers won the SB back when it had single digits next to the name, and one in the '90s. 2-1 Bears? 1-1. Vikes? 0-4  . Lions? Never been.

Kick ass football and great fans. Except Dallas. And the Eagles. And the Giants.

Yeah, I was talking world championships, as in Super Bowls. Conference Championships are great and all, but they are just the first losers.

NFC east 11- 8 in superbowls total appearances 19

NFC north 4-6 in superbowls total appearances 10

http://www.nfl.com/superbowl/standings/superbowl

if you want to talk NFL championships before the superbowl thats another story and another era

For the NFL championship game years 33-69

the (current) NFC East had 26 appearances with 8 wins

the (current) NFC north had 26 appearances with 19 wins

disclaimer - the teams in the current division didnt not all exist during all of those years most notably the Dallas Cowboys didnt come in until half-way thru that era.

But before the Superbowl era that was the way the teams perform when it comes to championships.

One of the (if not the single) longest-standing, most competitive divisions in NFL history.

Each matchup is a rivalry and is almost always a close game no matter if one team is a SB contender and the other a work-in-progress.

The characteristics that come to mind are smash-mouth. Stout defenses and hardcore running.

I wouldn't want to be in any other division.

So I guess we will be in sole possession of 2nd place next year with 4.
