View Full Version : Should Pats have Super Bowl taken away?

With all these new allegations coming out about the Patriots cheating going all the way back to 2002 and their super bowl victory over the Rams, the question has to arise on whether or not their super bowl titles should be taken away or not....

I really feel horribly for Tom Brady who I believe is the best QB to ever play the game and he probably had no knowledge of his coaches cheating because the coaches would never tell the players since players change every year and they wouldn't want to run the risk of being caught. In fact, Bill and only his closest coordinators would know, and they wouldn't want to admit to being a part of a scandal (probably the reason charlie weis and romeo crennel left so quickly to bite on other, non-appealing jobs)

The question though is do you take away their titles if these allegations are true, its obviously not on the players it is on the coaches so is it right to make the players suffer through something they did not know about?

I say no and yes, I say that you have to put an * underneath every super bowl victory this decade for the patriots. I believe belichek should receive a lifetime ban from the NFL and his coaching staff to each pay HUGE fines. I say that all the players can keep their super bowl and some sort of punishement must be placed on the patriots organization as a whole. Maybe a lower salary cap than all the other teams in the league for the next five years and a forfeit of their entire 2009 draft?

Let me know what you guys think on the matter

ps go giants! (only time i will ever say that when they aren't playing the cowboys)

The Patriots are cheaters to such a degree Senators are now questioning the NFL. Plus the fact that they choose to not honor Taylor with the 21 decal is totally disrespectul, and theirother actions of monkeying around with the injury report, etc. just are bad sportsmanship all around.

If it turns out that the Patriots did in fact tape the final practice of the Rams before their game, and taping another teams practice was illegal at the time (I don't know if it was or wasn't), then they should lose that Super Bowl title, not all three.

I completely agree the injury report is BS that should not be allowed most teams follow the rules but they seem to somehow be able to cheat the rules...

come on tom brady has been questionable every single game this year with a shoulder injury is that really neccessary?

So you are telling me that its possible they only cheated in that super bowl and again in 2006? They waited four years to cheat again after they found something that worked? I find that to be highly unlikely...possible, but I am sure if this latest allegation turns out to be true the NFL will have no choice to conduct a full investigation where we will see cheating occurring every year following 2002.

Oh ya I know he has had it for three years but still, come on, he doesnt miss practice over it, wait not even does he not miss practice, he doesnt miss a snap during practice. Now that high ankle sprain...that should be listed on the injury report...

I also find it hard to believe that the Patriots would cheat in the 2001 Super Bowl, stop for 5 years, then suddenly start again in 2007. However, there is no evidence to support that assumption at the present time.

It would be like someone going into traffic court for a speeding ticket. The judge looks at the individuals record and says "ok, you were caught speeding 3 years ago, and you are here for speeding today, I have to assume you always speed, so I am revoking your drivers' license".

The league would have to have evidence that the Pats cheated in all their Super Bowls in order to revoke their trophies/rings. At the moment they only have an allegation that they possibly cheated in one.

Also, can anyone say if there was a league rule in place about video-taping an opponents practice back when the Patriots/Rams played?

If it turns out that the Patriots did in fact tape the Rams practice before the Super Bowl and taping was illegal, then I do believe that that Super Bowl victory should go to the Rams, as well as a larger fine and Belichick should be suspended.

So lemme get this straight

Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Arlen Spector, who may or may not be in fact a disgruntled Eagles fan, possibly playing the the many disgruntled Eagles fans who may or may not vote for him come election time, is upset about how the NFL handled the Spygate case, and so wants to know more from the NFL and the Commissioner about how it was handled

Yeah, right

I have but three words for the Senator

BOO HOO HOO!!!!

This country has WAY MORE :pooh: to worry about than this Senator Spector

How about you get yourself a nice, big box of soft tissues, sit down, have a good cry, and then GET THE F--- OVER IT AND MOVE ON!!!!

They are cheaters, but I don't think you can take away those rings taken away at this point. You can put an * beside them in the HoF if you ant, but I don't think you take it away. Even if its proven they did cheat in the Rams SB, most of that evidence is likely gone.

Exactly.....the nfl and the media have tried to sweep this under the rug. Why did the NFL destroy the evidence? Why are we suppose to trust the Pats to turn over all the tapes they had to the NFL? Didnt they just get caught cheating? We are suppose to believe that Kraft knew nothing about it, although they got caught in GB. Please....Kraft is as wired as anybody in this league...thats competely unbelievable. And when the Commish is asked why he belives Kraft knew nothing, his comment was because Kraft told him so and he believes him....yea ok commish....can you say cover up!

They wore the sticker the week after he died, I don't recall any team wearing a 91 sticker for the pats player that died.

1. Yes there was a rule in place about video-taping, the rule is along the lines of taping any activity performed by another team that may increase your chances of winning.

2. I'm saying if this allegation is true, I'm not saying ok someone said it might be true take away their super bowls, but if it is true...

3. Your driver's license point= bad point, people do get their license taken away for multiple speeding tickets, but i do understand what you're trying to say.

****ing let it go man. They wore it for the one week. many teams took it off after that one week. Some teams did not. They had the number of their own guy who died in the offseason.

It's not totally disrespectful. They did their due and they honored Taylor.

Yeah

Its not like Millions of dollars are bet on each NFL game

Its not like the SB is one of the most bet on sporting events annually

Its not like organized crime might be....or get involved when there is cheating

Why worry about the integrity of the game when you can just worry about ratings?

The NFL can police themselves.....right?......RIGHT?
