New Orleans Saints (http://www.nfl.com/teams/neworleanssaints/profile?team=NO) defensive end Charles Grant (http://www.nfl.com/players/charlesgrant/profile?id=GRA397750) was involved in an incident at an Atlanta nightclub Saturday in which he was stabbed in the neck and a pregnant woman was shot and killed, reports the NFL Network's Adam Schefter.

Grant, designated the Saints' franchise player a year ago, started 14 games in the 2007 season, recording 2½ sacks. Grant has 38½ sacks over his six-year NFL career.

The Saints told Schefter they are aware of the incident but declined further comment.

Sorry I can't find a link but it just said on ESPN bottom ticker that DE Charles Grant was stabbed in the neck in an Atlanta night club last night. It didn't say anything about how he is doing but I thought I should report this seeing as how fans like us have had to go through something like this recently.

My thoughts and prayers to Charles and his family.

He's always been a guy I respected for his play, and his demeanor on and off the field. I hope it has a quick and full recovery, and they catch the person/persons responsible.

Thats why I no longer go clubbin in Atlanta. Its too dangerous. Things like this happen all the time, but you don't see it on the national news unless its a celeb.

I know athletes "should" be able to go out and have a good time, but the fact of the matter is that they are TARGETS of all kinds. Bribery, blackmale, extortions, you name it. So they need to find some other way to let it loose...or these things will continue to happen whether it's right or wrong, fair or un-fair.

The most recent account I have heard was as follows:

Alledgedly, Charles Grant and an unnamed cousin were at a party in Blakely, Georgia last night. There was a verbal confrontation between Charles' cousin and another individual who went by the nickname "Possum". Later, Charles and his cousin were in his vehicle attempting to leave, when "Possum" approached the window and continued the altercation with his cousin. It was reported that Charles' cousin reached for a pistol with the intent to shoot "Possum". Apparently Charles reached for the weapon in an attempt to stop his cousin and the result was that the gun went off and struck a bystander, who was the pregnant female reported on earlier. It was also reported that while Charles was attempting to grab the gun from his cousin, the individual identified as "Possum" stabbed Charles in the neck. At this point, Charles had grabbed the pistol and proceeded to shoot "Possum".

The story I have received is that the pregnant girl was killed. "Possum" was injured and remains hospitalized. Apparently the stabbing injury inflicted upon Charles was only minor and he is currently being held under arrest. No other information on other individuals involved was available.

As more information becomes available, I will continue to post it.
