Two days after losing in the most-watched Super Bowl ever, New England Patriots defensive back Willie Andrews was busted in Lowell, Mass., on charges of marijuana possession and driving an unregistered motor vehicle, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office.

Andrews is scheduled to be arraigned sometime this afternoon in Lowell District Court.

Apparently, he took the loss hard.

Instead of a Super Bowl parade, Patriots sophomore defensive back Willie Andrews will be doing a perp walk today in Lowell District Court.

Andrews, 24, is expected to be arraigned this afternoon on charges of marijuana possession and driving an unregistered motor vehicle, authorities say. Sources said he was arrested this morning on Middlesex Street near the campus of the University of Massachusetts in Lowell.

A source said he allegedly had a significant amount of marijuana in his possession.

Andrews, who the Pats drafted with their final pick in 2006, made a name for himself on Oct. 10, when he returned a 77-yard kickoff return against the Miami Dolphins to score his first NFL touchdown.

He is a graduate of Baylor University.

Andrews spent time in jail as a high schooler, but straightened his life out to star in college, the Herald reported the day after he was drafted by the Patriots.

“I’ve been facing these challenges my whole life,” Andrews said in April of 2006.

It was also previously reported that Andrews was arrested in his hometown of Longview, Texas, the summer before his freshman year of college when his car stalled on the highway and a trooper found a .25 caliber pistol in the trunk.

Andrews was already on two years probation for a criminal mischief conviction at the time and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, serving 10 before beginning Baylor’s preseason workouts, the Herald reported.

“That gave me my first sense of being in the real world, when your parents can’t do anything for you and you have to face your actions and be a man,” he told the Herald at the time.

Why put the emphisis on the pot. He smokes, he gets high, big deal. Driving an unregistered car is much more dangerous and stupid. He has the money to take care of it, but doesn't. Many insurance companies won't cover him if he crashes and if he kills somebody, he would be in much worse trouble than getting pinched with some pot.

Here is a stupid kid who has prior drug arrests, GUN charges and is driving an illegal car, but you have to make a big deal about the POT.

This line of thinking isn't going to help the decriminalize it crowd any.

That was the title of the article from TMZ as well as some new organizations. And while you may think that the other charges are more serious - and maybe they are - marijuana is still illegal, like it or not. And you can't tell me if he got pulled over smoked out that he wouldn't have a charge for DUI. Pretty sure with his slower response time, if he were to have a car accident and kill someone because he was high, he'd be in just as much trouble with the law and his insurance company.

This isn't a political debate, just sayin'.

I'm not saying pot is legal or morally okay, i'm just saying it's not that dangerous to others, but that is where the emphisis is being put by the article and it seems a little skewed to me. I wouldn't dismiss it, just wouldn't key in on it alone.

This is the Tailgate, where anything can become a political debate.;)

Besides, any time you mention pot around here, it becomes a "legalize it" discussion.

I hate the Pats myself, but I certainly can't put a guy down for doing something 60% (completely random, made up percentage) of the pop thinks is "okay".

Like it or not IMO 40% of the NFL smokes pot. If you haven't been red flaged or failed a drug test from what I understand NFL Drug Testing only occurs during the same times of each season, which all the players know about.

Sure, its illegal, and if they get caught once its basically a slap on the wrist, but for most players pot is a daily or weekend occurance. You could more than likely look around all sports, and say the same thing.

Yeah because an NFL defensive back's response time is probably dangerously slow, and adding POT? It's amazing he didn't drive off a bridge! I'm obviously kidding, people smoke pot, lots of 'em. It is legal in more than one state and it is ridiculous that anyone cares about this aspect of the story. The unregistered vehicle is the problem, the reason he got pulled in the first place. Being high doesn't affect someone who has actually smoked more than once in their life enough to hinder their driving, if anything he would drive slower because he would be paranoid.

Another note for you Giants fans--R.W. McQuarters got caught with a pound of Granddaddy Purple, a California-based strain of marijuana, right outside the TEAM HOTEL the day after the game, but his boy took the rap. Actually, most of the Giants, especially the defense, smokes a ton of herb, including Strahan. It's really amazing how Ricky Williams managed to fail drug tests- all you have to do is buy a 20$ drink.
